Left this morning on a108 as we always do heading for Cochrane, not to far out of town 7kms of logging .was not there last year, lots of sand on the hills, just a heads up if your trip includes that way in or out of town.heading back that way on Friday and the a108 will not be my way back into town.

Thanks for the update. That section was plowed but not sanded two weeks ago and was a real ripper with a lot of snow pack.

There is also trail L103 heading north that is very picturesque and usually in great condition, old "A" trail I think.

Really appreciate the heads-up, Dufftom.

We're staying in Kirkland Lake tonight, heading north then west to Timmins tomorrow AM, and had planned to go up A108. Based on your info, we'll give L103 a try instead... (thanks for this suggested alternative, Ultrafrozen.)

Yes the L103 is a good alternative,we will be taking that way back into town on Friday. We will have to keep our heads up for sleds heading north, now that Kirkland Lakes best kept secret is out lol.

Hey, Shari, nice to hear from you.

We started yesterday from Northland Paradise (you may remember the place... ;-) ) in Temagami, and did an easy 4 hour ride to Kirkland Lake, stayed overnight there, then moved on to Timmins today...which also should have been about a half-day, but ended up longer because of the new/wet snow falling all day. Plus, we thought it would be kind of different if we allowed one of our tunnel packs to come loose and fall of somewhere on the trail, thus allowing us to discover it missing sometime later. After backtracking 25 kms, we caught up to a groomer who had stopped and picked it up...WHEW!!!...thank YOU, SIR!!! Happens to everybody who saddlebags, sooner or later...just glad we've got our turn out of the way...LOL.

Tomorrow will be a longer day, taking us all the way back to New Liskeard, then Saturday AM, we'll do the quick hop back to Temagami, then home to Huntsville Sat. PM.

Just a nice little half-week saddle-bag ride of northeastern Ontario.

Hey Dufftom -- we took L103 out of Kirkland this morning...was quite scenic, but hadn't seen groomer in quite a while and was pretty rough in spots (and quite remote with no signage anywhere...we actually took a wrong turn and got lost at one point.). However, you'll be glad to know that it was being groomed when we back-tracked for our lost bag. With the colder temps forecast for tonight, it should set up well.

A trail from there north was generally in excellent shape.

Have fun and stay safe.

Sure do remember it! AND we mentioned a certain name, so we had preferential treatment and "the" tour! Was a great place to start our trip! That trip is still the highlight of my years sledding! Sounds like you are having a great adventure, and the luggage mishap....my biggest fear! All part of touring, happy you recovered it!
