Fred Quimby
I know the the trail to Whitney is far to go and look at, but do you have any information on how much snow there is? I know last weekend it had more snow than any other trails. It's all ice. Next to no snow on top to work with and tons of deadfall from the high winds. Viperules700
Come down here. If we get the foot of snow on thursday, trails will be decent. Crossing my fingers. I thought 8 weeks was bad for haili last winter. In 2011 I never got out there either because of no new snow and the huge feb Melt down.

Dirtbag
I ran up to whitney last monday before the rain and there was not much snow even then, lots of rock clicks... i'm sure the melt destroyed it... I feel bad for the club. I had a great time in Haliburton last week but I had to find other things to do than sled

mgooding
Gotta stay positive this deep freeze moves out and we get a dumping of snow. According to the weather specialists we are getting 10cm Thursday. And 1-3 pretty much every day next week. Will 10cm be enough for some trails. Or do we need closer to 20cm?
Fred Quimby
Any bush trail or deep woods trail will need a minimum of 20 cm's + to be decent. The rail trail .. You could probably get away with 10 cm' s but then once its open, there will be a lot of traffic on it and it will wear and washboard fast without the depth of snow. So we'd like to see more than less for sure.
ski1200
Well 10cm on thursday and 2-4cm till sunday pretty close to 20 let's hope they open the trails and we will be riding again!

Fred Quimby
Hey how come the HCSA trails are showing open (limited) I thought they were closed? They were just updated this morning as limited availability. The only trail still closed is 9. Keep in mind it is very rocky in some areas of the bush and we still need lots more snow in the bush to make it good. Forecast is for more snow tomorrow and Friday..which will help. ski1200
I would guess it will be really bad in spots I will wait till we get the dump this week. Don't won't to damage my sled. Thank for the update tho.

Fred Quimby
Things clubs due to get grooming money. Clubs open here as well and there is no base in some area's as well. It's not about grooming money entirely. Part of the issue happens to be those who chose to ride "unavailable" trails and liability. Having the trails listed as limited availability differs substantially with respect to liability. Trails are rideable with extreme caution. They are not where they should be for this point in February.
