  1. Very good point, but quality has nothing to do with me avoiding Chinese goods......... 2 Canadians in solitary confinement for 1 year now in retaliation to a high level Chinese exec suffering house arrest in Vancouver. My only recourse to protest this is to not buy Chinese goods.
  2. I'm second guessing my wisdom. Those PA alloys do look good and with PA they stand behind their products. I've installed Hercules Radial trailer tires with galvanized rims, $200.00 each plus tax from McCarther Tire in Owen Sound. I thought I was staying away from Chinese built tires buying the Hercs, but when I picked them up it clearly stated Made in China. Anyway if someone is looking for a good set of Goodyear Marathon Radial 225/75-15 with nice alloys I have them listed thanks brian
  3. Bought a cargo trailer with this wheel and tire combo, which are oversize for the trailer. The price is for 1 set Goodyear Marathon Tires....like new Alloy Wheels 15" X 7" with 5 hole -4.5" bolt pattern Centre caps included. $350.00. I'm in Kincardine, ON
  4. Having no knowledge or experience I asked my dealer about storing the sled during the summer months on a lift as the one from PA caught my eye. His reply, unless you need it for maintenance work, you're wasting your money.....he went on to say that their sleds sit on the floor of the showroom all year long without detrimental affects, this also includes the used sleds in the storage building. Mine being kept in a cargo trailer will be fine
  5. Talked with the bylaw officer yesterday and what I posted is the current bylaw even though its a few years old. He confirmed what everyone has said,.....yes you can ride directly from your home to the trails and back, do not exceed 40 Kph and stay off the sidewalk and boulevards. thanks all brian
  6. Thanks for the replies. I think I'll call the town office to confirm
  7. This appears to be the newest bylaw that I can find on line for Traffic in the Municipality of Kincardine. Where it says "other than for the purpose of entering, leaving, or crossing the municipality"........Does this mean I can ride on the town streets from my home to the start of the trails via a direct route? Or is this more to give a traveler permission to enter the town for food, gas, etc? thanks brian A BY-LAW TO REGULATE TRAFFIC AND PARKING IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF KINCARDINE Oct-2009 PART XXII - 1. PENALTIES OPERATION OF MOTORIZED SNOW VEHICLES No person shall operate a motorized snow vehicle within the urban areas of the Municipality of Kincardine, other than for the purpose of entering, leaving, or crossing the municipality in the most direct route possible, or for having such vehicle serviced, except when said person has received prior authorization from Council, or in the case of an emergency, has received prior approval from the Ontario Provincial Police. Such snow vehicle shall be operated at no more than 40 kilometers per hour.
  8. I agree with Techdenis007, you don't need the window. The Hippo Hands on my motorcycle have none and there are a lot more buttons to deal with; muscle memory will take care of it once you've used the switchgear a few times. Good tip @Techdenis007 for the foam insulation. I saw the gaps and wondered how much wind would blow through. I think I'll do the same, thanks brian
  9. I ended up drilling a second hole in the plastic re-inforcements lowering the push pin about 1", I couldn't go lower as I would have been off the plastic. This appears to be the simple answer (see my previous post); the muffs are now more centred giving me adequate room above the bar to fit my hands easily. brian
  10. I have the Doo muffs on my 2019 Enduro. On my motorcycle I use Hippo Hands and they work very well, so there was no hesitation in buying the Doo brand for my sled. I have not tried them yet as the sled still sits waiting for snow, but here is my observation. They may work well on handlebars with straight ends, but my bars angle downward at the tips, not so good. The Doo muffs have a pin that inserts into the end of the grip to keep the muff from being pushed back by the wind. Because the pin is in the centre of the muff and the bar end is lower, the muff sits tight against the top of the switchgear. You have plenty, too much actually of clearance under the bar where you don't need it and no room at the top. I've spent hours playing with the fit, adjusting the velcro, etc, but nothing I do corrects the positioning to my liking. If I attach the muff without using the pin, they sit properly, but are easily pushed back....wind I'm thinking of either removing the centre pin and it's support brace and having a someone with an industrial sewing machine reattaching it lower, or just adding a second push pin and hoping the muff will remain rigid enough that it won't fold back without a brace
  11. Thanks for all replies, yes I agree the alloy looks best, but I think I'll go with the general advice to used galvanized for durability. @Blackstar I just had my car summer and winter tires removed from their 10 yr old alloy rims, wire brushed and had the sealant goop applied to the beads as they were constantly leaking. What prompted it more was the TPM on one tire had the battery die, so 8 of those too, I was surprised how much cheaper they are now $54.00 per unit for my Honda Accord. @IQ TURBO When they say machined aluminum they generally means the shiny parts are bare metal, no clear coat. The final machining is done after the black powder coat or paint is applied. This I was told my by OK Tire rep. Princess Auto has HOT BUY for $160.00, alloy wheels with 205/75-15 radial tires. https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/st205-75r15-black-alloy-trailer-tire/A-p8774366e
  12. I didn't notice until recently that the used trailer I purchased has oversized wheels and tires, 15-7 wheels with 225/75-15 tires verses what should be on it, 15-5 wheels with 205/75-15 tires. The tires extend about 1.5" beyond the edge of the fender and are about the same distance from touching the fender at the top. This combo appears to be working ok as I don't see any rub marks on either the fender or tires, but I'm not comfortable with the set up and will be going to the stock sizing. The wheels are Alloy with centre caps and chrome nuts, the look great on the trailer so I was thinking of replacing with similar alloy wheels. Heres my question: Am I better off going to a steel galvanized wheel since the trailer will mostly be used in winter? I'm wondering how well the alloys will hold up against corrosion from the salt. thanks brian
  13. I had TD when my Harley got rear ended in 2014. They were wonderful to deal with, covered everything and quick with payment. I switched to Co-Operators last year as TD took a big jump. Seems you need to get quotes yearly at renewal time and go with who offers the best coverage price.
  14. thank you to all....steep learning curve here and I appreciate all the replies brian
  15. I'm slightly confused about the validation sticker placement on the cowling. My plan is to get custom numbers made once I know my license numbers. I read this on another forum http://www.paudashtrailblazers.on.ca/permits/safety/using-custom-numbers-on-your-sled-in-ontario/ The validation sticker must be placed on the left side between the registration numbers and the back of the cowling. Validation stickers issued after June 1, 1997 must be affixed in the centre of a white background that forms a border of at least one centimetre in width around the sticker. Does this mean I need to put a blank white sticker on my red coloured sled so I can put the validation sticker on it? I couldn't find anything on the MTO website to support this statement. This is all I could find you must have a validation sticker on your registration decal. There is an annual renewal fee for the sticker. Place the sticker in the upper right corner of the decal. Can someone enlighten me or post a photo on how it looks on their sled. thanks brian
  16. that makes sense. I couldn't understand the need when it has a neck gator built it
  17. I'm considering buying an Oxygen helmet as I'm not crazy about the mask used in the Mod 3. SkiDoo recommends using a balaclava with this helmet. I found that strange. Anyone know why they recommend using a balaclava? Do you wear one with this helmets? thanks brian
  18. I took my own advice today and went to the tire shop and got a free used tire tube to cut up for weather protection on my locks. Not pretty, but hopefully this works; I'll post again if it doesn't. I'm also thinking the long tube section I have on the trailer tongue might be long enough to cover the receiver when the two are coupled together thereby keeping the road slush off the lock. The other idea it to do as Nunz suggests to keep the locks in the vehicle until reaching the destingation. brian
  19. I've read elsewhere that the Master Lock Pro series is more resistant to freezing, but they are expensive. Also an old inner tube cut to cover the lock as well. Punch two holes in the tube smaller than the lock pin diameter and it will deflect most of the elements....haven't tried that yet https://www.amazon.ca/Master-Lock-Security-6121NKALJ-3-Technology/dp/B079RLPYRH/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3MN39EOS6MOWU&keywords=master+lock+pro+series&qid=1573082350&rnid=5264023011&s=hi&sprefix=master+lock+pro%2Caps%2C153&sr=1-4
  20. It wasn't meant to be. Found a deal on Kijiji from a fellow in Meaford. 6x10 Atlas with a bunch of goodies......and he delivered it. thanks brian
  21. Adventure Rider......lol we've shared posts on that forum too R1200 GS Adv......aka Sir Fallsdown Alot brian
  22. Dead batteries in the hearing aids work for me
  23. Thank you for all the advice. I never considered the sled becoming a projectile. More money.....this hobby appears to be a money cruncher like everything else I do.....LOL Oh well, first year getting set up, it should level off after that.....or once again the Mrs might have something to say. Having said that I did buy the Tie Boss's from Nunz. I do have a second use for them....securing my motorcycle on ferry crossings. The ropes they give you onboard are crap, and I thought these would be lighter to pack than a couple ratchet straps. brian
  24. While at the Toronto Snowmobile show I came across a booth selling Tie Boss products. http://tieboss.com/ProductDetail.cfm?PID-130&ID=2131&c=2 I'm thinking these would work good for securing a sled in a cargo trailer. Any thoughts or reviews on them? Other than online have you seen them sold elsewhere? Hoping to score a better price for buying 4 thanks brian
  25. 62 yrs old and thought I'd try snowmobiling for the first time, (other than playing in fields with an Olympic 399). Purchased a new non current from Lynn Hoys and presently looking for a 5x10 v-nose cargo trailer to haul it. Going for a cargo as it will serve double duty hauling my motorcycle. Please snow so I can use it or my wife will have something to say. In Kincardine. brian
