  1. Place looks empty. Last time we were there, it was packed & absolutely freezing.....many a sled were not starting that morning. Enjoy !!
  2. If you can, take the financial aspect out of the sport and just enjoy when you are able based on the conditions, etc.... Thinking of the money and the lack of use that could come with it, just makes it harder to swallow. But once you are back in the saddle, the other thoughts quickly slip away!
  3. x2 on the post. Many are guilty of it & many have no clue what it takes for the trails to be there and how the negativity chips away at the sport for all.
  4. By allowing a "trail" on a piece of property, you inadvertently open that trail up to non sledders by giving them an easier avenue, whether or not they should be there, sounds like we/sledders paid for the "what if", for those other people that felt the trail was open to others, but now have placed limitation on that. Catch 22 and can empathize with both sides, hopefully they come to common ground for the good of the sport, but very good chance they will not given the situation and how our judicial system deals with the obvious law breakers with such light hands.... Just another nail in the coffin I am afraid.
  5. Just like theft in QC, this also seems to get exaggerated. We've never experienced a bad encounter with the QPP, but I'm sure it happens, just like here!
  6. Roll into a town mid week with no reservations for the night only to have the owner open their normally closed mid week doors and provide a room after they ask you, "are you snowmobilers". Or the local store deliver a pizza to the place your staying at who don't normally deliver and refuse to take extra money. Or the local body shop let's you pull your sled into their shop, gets a portable heater so the frozen antifreeze in your sled can thaw out.
  7. Woke up in temagami to this years ago, ended up being an awesome day on the trails, at least when we thought we were on the trails.... Getting people unstuck started to get old real fast.
  8. Usually its mirrors that are the issue. Been stopped a couple times without mirrors, no issues, just mentioned, asked how things were and on our way.
  9. Witness a person's dedication and love of a sport through volunteer and/or activity!
  10. MNR is just another publically funded org within our province, another level of "government"....just another thing that does not run as smooth as it could. Dealing with this sort of stuff, sure could take the wind out of your sail as a volunteer and get old real fast....
  11. Is the average age of snowmobilers now not mid 40's and up.....given that, other than poking some fun at your buddies, I would guess the large majority of riders now could give 2 sh!ts what others really think! I installed the Kimpex muffs I recently bought the other week on my sled, seem to fit well with no instructions to anything, at least while sitting in the garage on my sled. Had the cold guards on before that but was looking for some more comfort, I plan to keep the Kimpex muffs on the sled all the time, unless I see a reason to remove them... Congrats on the new to you POO, looks real nice!
  12. Insurance regulations in ON are far different than what they are in QC......plus a whole, is there not a lot less internal turmoil within the province of QC than ON, or any other provinces really other than ON....
  13. Generally, reading actual reports on trails conditions or rides, etc....has always been less than what it could be. OC is one of the places you do get more updates/reports from though, but when you usually (not always) receive criticism from some based on the report or picture you post, you tend to think twice the next time you are considering posting a picture, report, etc.....
  14. Another vote for the forester. Nice place, good food and close to the trail.
  15. It might be a slow start, but I don't think that far off from the last few years. We typically visit the in laws around Christmas, spend a night or two, so bring the dog in the back of the truck and its seems more often than not the weather is on the warm side as I'm usually concerned about my dog freezing his preverbial balls off, but it seems to usually be mild out. The new norm is cold and hot cycles, sucks, but life.....so be prepared to trailer to where the warm up has less of an impact and count your blessings when you don't have to trailer!
  16. Weather for the last week or so, has sucked no doubt..... You making alternate plans i.e Quebec or Northern ON, or leave it for another day?
  17. People look down on those that drive trucks....interesting.... I have only drove a truck now for that last 20 or so years, could not imagine not having a truck now. Decided to switch to an HD truck on last one I bought, went with the gas version due to the amount of towing I do, or rather do not do, I did not see the justification to spend the extra $$ up front on the diesel, but people need to understand the extra $$ you do pay upfront, you get all or most back on resale, and if you happen to buy a Dodge when they offer the special where you do not pay extra for the diesel, that is a win/win when selling. So far very happy with the HD, other than the higher costs to sticker it, brakes, etc....but nothing to complain about, especially when you use it to tow or load the bed full or materials....payload is so much better. As for towing, narrower v-nose trailer will always be easier to tow, or an open trailer if you are really concerned about your MPG. I recall switching from an open car trailer to an enclosed car trailer years ago that did not have much weight difference between the two and it was night and day towing the two.
  18. Great to hear....the girlfriend/wife still up for putting some miles on too? Good help is so hard to find these days, let alone someone you can trust to get it done without you holding their hand....good luck with the hired help, hopefully he works out. I am surprised you still plow actually, figured you would have put a stop to that by now...
  19. So, does that mean you are riding this year than?
  20. Yes, a nice base of gravel and stone, like any cottage road
  21. I have the one in the picture above, but I do not recall buying from PA... For the use that it gets, works great, no issues other than having to add some wood spacers under the running boards where the arm lifts, but that likely varies sled by sled. The casters are made of steel and have had no issues with them so far or the hoisting turn screw. The unit is made strong, it is heavy and for less than $200.00, it is a tough deal to beat.....not worth making one for that price.
  22. x2 on the report....my brother is talking about heading to QC the 30th to the 3rd, I am curious on conditions before I seriously consider going as well...
