Ok, so we are aware that this particular business owner thinks the by-law is "crazy"....

Two questions....

What exactly is this by-law that is causing all the uproar in the Muskoka District?

When did the trails in that area become accessible only to Ski-doos? Are there no Polaris trails?

:wavey:

Well it is obvious that the Muskoka area has raised the bar and are making a statement that this is the premier riding destination in Ontario and therefore are only allowing Ski-Doo's on the trail system. I fore one applaud the move and can only hope that other area's will jump on board as well. LOL.

Quoted from the article...

“Just with the rumour that the trails would be closed, our business was down 50 per cent,” he said. “Sometimes 30 or 40 Ski-Doos arrive for gas at the same time. They also come in the store and then they buy chocolate bars, chips, energy drinks and food. On a good weekend when the sun is shining and the world is perfect, we can do $10,000 a day between gas and in-store sales.”

This is probably the first time I've seen real numbers in print. How can anybody deny the importance of snowmobilers to this and other small businesses in the peak snowmobile areas?

This is CLEARLY a cash grab! With no Yamahas around to tow the SD out of the bush you are now forced to call a Muskoka towing service!!! Talk about a captive market...unacceptable!

Would this by-law be the reasoning behind Wildbill needing a permit to trim the tree infront of his shop window? The district is trying to regulate the landowners' removal of brush and trees? I don't suppose this is all part of the "green" effort that the government has been pushing?

If this is the case....what does the OFSC do to clear the trails on private property?

We have something similar here in Auburn....the municipality passed a bylaw that does not allow homes that are currently serviced by municipal wells in rural areas to drill an individual well. If a home owner were to drill a well without applying for a variance then they would still be charged for the use of the municipal well.

It is definitely designed to keep funds in the municipal coffers...too bad in the Muskoka area that they haven't realized that money will not stay in their pockets if businesses close their doors....continuing the vicious cycle....

And no Yamaha either.. :angry::angry::angry:

IMO, the land owners OWN their land and OWN their trees.. The government can piss off and go steal money from somewhere else... Maybe they can go shake down China, they gave China all our jobs and all our money already......
