Runnynose
Hi All: We made our first run from Long Lake to Lake Penage on New Year's day to get ready for the season. Cleared a few trees, with swamps and small lakes in good shape with little slush. Should get some ice measurements this weekend. Need one more good dump of snow! Let's hope the cold continues................
alex8q4
How is the ice on Penage now? I saw you guys staking Long Lake Just before the warm spell... I have to say I was imperssed how quickly you got it done!
The Groomer Guy
I never been on the trails in that area, hoping can ride them soon, not sure this year......
Runnynose
Long Lake always gets ice long before Penage, so we stake it earlier even though the trail system is not open, just gives us a head start.........anyway, got everything staked between Long Lake and Penage today thanks to the snow last weekend and the cold snap. Penage itself was getting staked today. We were getting 7 to 9 inches of good ice on Penage. 12+ inches on Long Lake and the lakes before you hit Penage. The groomer will run from Long Lake to Penage early Monday morning. They are grooming down toward Killarney today. Sorry for the late start, but that last thaw set us back a couple of weeks........let's hope the warm forecast for Tues Wed this week is not too bad!!! alex8q4
Don't apologize you guys are doing great work! I love that run to killarney. I hope they get the lake run opened up that takes you to the island.
Runnynose
Thanks, we are having fun despite a cooked piston yesterday when staking Penage! Haven't ran across to the island for a few years, hope I can manage it this season. The Bell Lake Road section of trail south of Penage was in good shape today, one of my favourite runs. Groomer still scheduled to run from Long Lake to Penage early tomorrow morning. Let's hope the warm spell this week doesn't bring much rain................. alex8q4
Looks like we survived as its is getting colder now! I am sure there are washouts on the trails but we didn't lose too much snow with 10-15cm's in the forecast!

Runnynose
The big groomer finally did a pass Monday Feb 4th from Long Lake to Penage (saw it returning last night on Long Lake). Killarney to Penage was also done yesterday. Also, the club is going to run the big groomer through on the trail that runs roughly south of the Killarney Hwy this week. They got the small groomer through previously and it took 20 hours due to all the fallen trees. STP had to take over from the Killarney guys, as they didn't have enough volunteers. alex8q4
These are some great trails you are talking about... Happy to hear!
largedaryl
Hope to run that Long Lk to Penage trail in early March. That trail has come a long ways in the last 15 years, and is real sweet to ride late season once it has been groomed and filled with snow. Thanks to the volunteer efforts! largedaryl
Can anyone comment on this trail (C108D) from Long to Penage.. when last groomed? Have an option to run on Sat March 9th - will take the lake route if it is rough... green on the OFSC map but looking for last groomed date. Will look at STP site next. Thanks in advance and enjoy end of season running. Update: just looked at STP GPS and see that it was groomed Monday March 4th.. love it when technology works! Should be sweet running! Runnynose
The trail was great on Saturday the 9th. Warm temps and rain today and tomorrow will do some damage but I think the base will hold up. Hopefully with colder temps this week they can get the groomer through again. The Sudbury Trail Plan site is great as it shows when and where the groomers are running.
