  1. 100% correct for me on more than one occasion - OPP only looking for tag, ownership & Ins. Never been harassed for permit (that I recall).....and if you think about it with the online purchases for temp passes that are just a piece of paper you carry, the actual permit placement has become even less of an important factor - paying and having one is! Someone balking about where the permit is actually placed on a sled after you are stopped for a trail side check, needs to really think about what is important here, and clearly they need some direction.
  2. The VIN spells out everything to them. Only tell Ins what they ask, nothing more. The can only try to decline if you modified it from what the factory says it has based on the VIN.
  3. ^ THIS.....the media and the sheep are causing a major hinderance to let society move forward with some normalcy, albeit with rules & protocols in place to keep the very large majority perfectly safe from this virus.
  4. Dealt with John at Team Powersports a few times, always been good to deal with.
  5. It’ll all be good, right..... I can see booking out of town being an issue with more people than available rooms. Packing an extra balaclava shouldn’t be too hard, or your own food. Yes, people will need to exercise extreme patience with likely short staff, even more than usual. I don’t think the virus will be so much the issue in sledding regions, it’ll be locals might not wanting citiots there to possibly spread it and those okay with out of towners, having enough support. +1 for cottage owners in sledding regions.... just might be even more fuel for the cottage realestate market.....
  6. x2 on this. I think think it is fair to have doubts that it might not open, so do but buy until your doubts are gone, if that means paying more, so be it. Early season permit is already bare bones price, that I believe does not even cover everything, so buying early, don't expect a refund, refund should be based on buying at the full price, period!
  7. Would you trust that they wouldn’t mess that up.... New sled..... finally retiring Barney? Congrats, what did you get?
  8. Which is in a ton of places now a days. Businesses are investing in it a lot, but that’s also so they can push their ads to you the user and to cater to us when deciding where to go or hang out. @bigfish, If you have a smart phone, very easy to do, but if someone helps you, I suggest you don’t let the phone auto connect to public wifi.
  9. Price goes up, ridership goes down and/or you end up with more folks riding with no permit....which will also cause the business to die as well. Catch 22 Cater to the enthusiast at a rate that will support the system, that most enthusiasts will pay......I think it is now proven that new blood into the sport is not happening. Take a serious look at what trails can go away to reduce the over cost to operate / care for the system. And if all else fails, QC is not that far a drive for a couple of trips per winter.
  10. Totally different type of people that live in ON & QC when it comes to lifestyles and opening their wallet for enjoyment or pleasure. ON folks just don't want to pay for certain things, not all, but a larger majority......QC people seem to have a lot less thought when it comes to spending, granted the tax & cost of living structure is different.
  11. Wasn’t the last phase of the COVID opening plan, that eat in restaurants could open and not just patio....along with gyms, and other establishments? No idea what extra steps they need to do and at what costs, but I’d imagine many northern establishments would pass that expense onto the consumer anyways.
  12. Did this for the first time last year, it was great having a home base and not saddle bagging each day..... think it’ll be the new norm anyways.
  13. This makes sense and quite likely. Cottaging, camping, outdoor activities are all booming, sledding just might as well and be a killer year..... just need Mother Nature to cooperate now!
  14. Arrived at le rabaska around 3ish, got settled. had dinner, than a few of us went for a little 100 mile evening ride.
  15. Farted around on simcoe today with the kids. Great day, very busy, lots of folks enjoying the holiday.
  16. That is exactly where they are logging on d101b....as you get on the trail off of livingstone lake rd, that you run on for a couple hundred feet (it is the Yellow section).....which leads to trail 67 and NE from there (which is Red....).
  17. I rode around Dorset this past Sat and other than some of D101B that is being logged, trails were good, feeder trails were better and traffic was not bad with the majority of those that I cross paths with, riding with respect for others. East across 117 & stage at Raven lake that is always a good start, head across Raven, pick up trail 64, than 68, onto Kawagama, on 64 again (bear lake rd), 65 to d101B, head North (hit small section of logging), cut across Oxtongue and keep going North on d101B.....usually pretty good conditions. The wolf/crown loop is usually great as well with very little traffic, but due to logging this year, not an option.... Dwight is a good stop for lunch with a few options to pick from, usually not as busy as Dorset.
  18. Parked at raven lake, ran raven, kawagama and bear....kawagama is slushy in spots. Trails were mostly good. thinner for sure with lots of corn snow. Not too busy, yet.
  19. Plus accidents (stories & memories) tend to happen when least expected......
  20. Sledding is a power sports activity, you will always get people riding beyond their capacity and fulfilling that adrenaline rush. When you think about it, really surprised there are not more accidents on the trails and last I checked, most sledding accidents or fatalities were NOT actually on the trails oddly enough.... There will always also be a strong opinions on both sides and a massive cloud looming as to what is fast enough or too fast, and the opinions that also go along with that i.e. maniacs, reckless, etc... Just like the riders who purposely try to impede faster riders or the riders that show no respect for the slower riders....human nature. Anyone that chooses to ride the trails, I think needs to understand the risks associated with riding them, there are actually signs posted on the trails pertaining to the risks if I am not mistaken, for those that have chosen to read them of course. Similar topic gets posted year after year, always going to be people on both sides. I understand people can & will ride stupid or like a maniac when I do ride, especially when you ride certain areas, but I try to ride according to my surroundings and my comfort zone at the time. You can choose to make riding choices that can actually decrease your exposure to this, but it will never be eliminated. Some would say that is not fair and I should be able to ride where I want, when I want, with the same expectation anywhere I ride, but that is really not the case within this sport, and never will be.
  21. x2...makes perfect sense if a trail has no hope of opening for the season, just delete it to avoid confusion.
  22. So was that 8 hours one way or round trip...... Northbay will fall into the round trip option. Seeing some Yellow trails just North of Baptiste ....up to Whitney for lunch and back. I am thinking the trails status will change again by Thursday, so the Forest can be avoided and still not that bad a drive..
  23. Halliburton Forest? Updates on OFSC trails might change as the week goes by.
  24. There was a thread on this exact topic I believe a couple years ago, recall it being a no brainer for clubs to use Facebook for updates vs website and exactly what most clubs were leaning towards.
