Experienced that on my old 2 stroke with no studs but not on current 4 stroke with IR. Awareness as you come up to these crossing and stoping where it makes sense to avoid issues is beneficial. The grade from the road usually slopes down and people tend to be throttle happy as they prepare to cross the road usually resulting in some nice ice at the roads edge. Ski pressure and type of carbides you run will also have an effect on this. With no studs, less carbide is needed and generally steering is less heavy. Another food for thought.

Current sled is the IR and I find it a very happy medium between no studs and needing some studs for the odd icy conditions or a lake with minimal snow cover.....keep in mind I came from no studs for 10+ years. I agree that the southern trails with marginal conditions make running studs a hazard....but those same marginal conditions also create more ice in the corners where you need traction.....but I rarely ride in the "southern regions". I have had zero of oh crap moments with current sled and IR track, but again, I rode with no studs for a while, so know what to expect or adjust accordingly as needed to avoid those moments. My sled with its newer power enhancements now has me considering traditional studs since it is now quite noticeable the lack of traction when you pull the throttle......I would like to add studs to my IR, but I know there are mixed reviews on that and if I really want studs, I should replace the track. To stud or not to stud...always a mixed bag of opinions!!

LOL, yes, happens often.... I cannot think of the trails off the top of my head, but I know there are some feeder trails in dist #7 that are groomed by sled and small drag, so they are out there for sure.
-
Are you suggesting all trails need to fit two sleds side by side in order to be open? I do not think that exists in many places.
-
Ya, I recall that in the bush as well, fields were all good.....and my sled had a lot of sand in the skid after that ride as well!
-
I am not sure the trails up in that area have opened up much if at all the last few years. I think I rode that area 6 or so years ago with my BIL (Red Bay and south), do not recall it being bad and was decent riding.

Great topic. No first hand experience, but the Poo,s seem to be the most aggressive chassis the last few/many years for that style of riding being similar to riding a dirt bike people say. The new Cat sounds like a home run in that category as well, some are suggesting better than the poo….but that would be a next to brand new sled since last year was first year for it. both have competent 600 that seems reliable with plenty of power for twisty trails. I always ran 2 smoke up until my last sled, that’s a 4 stroke doo. Next to zero issues for me as well on 2 smokes….and I kept most of them for a while. I also never liked holding my 2 smokes to the bar for long times, do not mind with my current sled…but unless running lakes, not many trails in that region where this is a big factor. If I ran just around this area, I might have not bought a 4 stroke…considered for years to buy one, then finally did, but I found myself riding much less in our back yard and more north Ontario or Quebec trails.

Another observation regarding the coming winter….walnut tree has plenty of walnuts this year!

Can’t speak for sledding, but our group has looked at helping out certain needs and some do require more hoops to jump through, so we tend to take the path of least hoops. When you help at the local soup kitchen/shelter monthly, can you just walk in and help or need to do some “checks” beforehand?

That sounds very realistic given those circumstances. I also know of scenarios where people want to help, offered to help, but not well received…but as I also said, I know other locations where it is well received. Not a perfect system by any means with good and bad, like anything else.

ya, people get set in their ways at times and become blinded…..having something to complain about for some, make their day. But plenty of clubs too with the opposite perspective.

Okay, feeling very fall’ish today and winter is on the mind of course. I’m seeing plenty of caterpillar webs nice and high in the trees, always a good sign of a great winter to come! Lakes are going to be plenty warm making for some nice lake effect snow…. Georgian bay is a very nice temp this year actually…..was in it during July long weekend and it normally still feels like icicles, not this year, in it last week and it was very pleasant. I know I’m not going to be able to ride much this year with my son now in rep hockey, but I’m still excited about winter!

The “green” tree hugging folks…same ones that do not want forestry maintenance done, that help preventing extremely bad conditions… How bad are the ones in QC - going to create issues for the season ahead? Which on this topic, did the repairs end up getting done through the Gaspe region?

Looks salvageable!!

Technology is a wonderful thing - wonder what the delta is on the jacket from then to now vs the sled from then to now…. Wife must have washed and shrunk it me thinks….
-
Leather jacket by chance and do you still have that piece of history!

Think you missed the question. I take it this is a last minute release for the season, that I imagine will interest many in either platfrom, however if I snowchecked a sled last fall, I might be pissed off to see this come out. Not really taking care of your loyal fan base. But I’m sure not a first for any of the manufacturers either.
-
And what do you recall the price then was…lol
-
So this will be available for the upcoming season to receive/ride? How would that work for a person that snowchecked a sled and now they release this?!?!
-
Yes, seen a lot more being installed last few years for sure. Can’t work a flooded field.

I would say the newer subdivisions where farm fields once were do a good job of managing water run off with the drainage ponds they incorporate into the design of the subdivisions. Bigger issue is the older areas. We have drainage ditches and the Holland River just down from us, when the sky opens up and dumps some water in short order, man does that river increase in size pretty quick. Other areas like ours that is older, do not have that and the water must go somewhere.

Yep, been quite a few people put in bad situations with the old systems not able to support the new rates of increased precipitation coming down in much shorter windows!

Perhaps our resident ambassador Nunz can do a showcase video for POO as well! Maybe already has.....not sure. I just happen to receive the email from Doo the other day and figured I would share and add a bit of sledding content during the off season.
