  1. First week of November is plenty early enough to plan a trip that likely won't be possible for 6 weeks out or more. I know a whole bunch of ATV riders that aren't snowmobilers and recently rode the closed snowmobile trails from Coldwater to Big Chute Marina. They all thought that if it was a snowmobile trail that it was an ATV trail as well. They were surprised to learn it wasn't and that they were trespassing.
  2. If you can figure out where the trail is so can the ATV riders, hunters, dirt bikers etc. that the landowners don't want on their property.
  3. Absolutely... It amazes me that people don't hesitate to spend $15K on a sled, $7K+ on a trailer, all the gear, boots, suits and helmets, $100+ for a motel/hotel room for a place to sleep for possibly two nights per weekend. $100 a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus the bar bill, then whine about the best bargain to participate in the sport... the trail permit.
  4. Okay... so everyone has heard about doing the snow dance. Then there's the spoon in the freezer and put it under your pillow or the most recent the white crayon. Well here's your chance to do the MAKE IT SNOW dance with a group of sled heads.... Maybe if we all do the snow dance together we will have some very early cold followed by some very early snow to kick off what is sure to be a spectacular snowmobile season. Baxter Snow Riders are celebrating their 30th anniversary year and as part of the festivities planned we are kicking off the season with the "MAKE IT SNOW" dance. Saturday November 16, 8:00 PM at the Baxter Ward Community Centre, 25 Community Centre Dr, Port Severn, featuring DJ NaZty. 30th anniversary door prize, 50/50 draw and raffle draws. Tickets are $25 and include ADMISSION, ONE FREE DRINK, PIZZA AND DESERT. For tickets contact Diane at 705-538-1315 or email dtmadore@gmail.com
  5. I was at the AGM and I didn't hear her say anything about locking in the permit price at the time of gift card purchase
  6. I'll be there for Baxter Snow Riders along with our Pres Arthur Christakos
  7. A friend rides his bike regularly from Port Severn and typically goes to at least Port McNicholl. The trail is paved from Waubaushene toward Midland for sure and I believe it's paved toward Coldwater. If you're looking to ride from Waubaushene toward Midland you can park by the baseball diamond just across the road from the Esso at 400 & 12. Follow the unpaved (snowmobile) trail a very short distance toward Coldwater and instead of turning right to go under the 400 turn left.
  8. lots for sure... especially mid week
  9. I know that trail gets a fair bit of bicycle traffic from Waubaushene to Midland.
  10. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck. It's a duck. There are some obvious no question scenarios. Stop someone and they are carrying an unpermitted gun. There aren't any excuses, They are a criminal. Too bad we have to go through all the court cost to lock them up. Open the car door and the driver spills out onto the ground then blows way over the legal limit. Don't try and tell me they aren't drunk. Go directly to jail, do not pass go.
  11. Not saying it's right or it's wrong but asking the question.... maybe many of the buyers were not wanting that heavy bumper, the tunnel bag, the mirrors or the multiple trip meters and asking if they could get the sled without it. It's easier to add the things you want than to try and take off the things you don't when you make the purchase.
  12. For that new Yamaha you ordered?
  13. I didn't take it that way... Despite the very best efforts of the volunteers and groomer operators, especially on Family day weekend you are going to run into some less than ideal trail conditions. There's a multitude of reasons why a trail can be rough, high levels of traffic, out of service groomer and just too many trails to do them all every day.
  14. We were on it yesterday. My back is feeling it today. The top speed from Bala to 17 was about 20 kph. Lots of traffic, groomers can't be everywhere, so many possible reasons.
  15. Heights don't tend to bother me a lot as long as I have some even minimal sense of security. You couldn't pay me enough to be one of these guys though
  16. One thing I have noticed is that many with electric visors don't carry their breath mask with them. I don't mean use it but have it in the bag. A few times we have been out and one of the heated visors fail. Now they are fogging up and have to open the face shield to see where they are going. It makes for a very long VERY COLD ride back. Those that have had that experience now keep the breath mask with them just in case.
  17. My wife and I have the BRP modular helmets. I've never found it too heavy or that my neck was sore. My wife has occasionally said her neck was sore at the end of the day. One of the things I do like about it is the face mask it comes with for those really cold days. It fits over/around the breath mask, protects the cheeks right up to your temples your chin and neck right down below the collar of your coat. No electric shield, has never fogged and the only thing that ever fogged was a tiny spot on the bottom corners of my glasses closest to my nose. A quick adjustment of the breath mask and that was resolved.
  18. Perhaps they actually did... either it's on the sled or it isn't. They wouldn't have to ask for it...
  19. I didn't see one spot check during the Christmas season. The only one in a very long time was on the Saturday of a long weekend in summer. 400 south bound exit to hwy 12 for Midland.
  20. A friend of ours has a campground that is primarily seasonal RV's with very few transient. For some reason people don't seem to want to take their empties back whether they be beer cans/bottles or liquor bottles. He has a few 45 gal drums they seem to like to leave them in. His son packs it all up and gets about $50 - $60 / week in empties.
  21. Around sprucedale and Kearney seem to be some of the only Muskoka area trails
  22. So if there wasn't any mention (see bold) how do you come by this secret information that nobody else had? There wouldn't have been a breath sample since he was killed so it would have been a blood sample taken during an autopsy. Second bold... it they are after the money... just think... you would have to be over the legal limits for there to be a monetary penalty. So if you are over the legal limit you have nobody to blame but yourself for the fine. Glad they got another impaired driver off the road.
