Train crash near Big Chute

Two CP Rail trains have collided causing a massive derailment on tracks in the township of Severn.

As many as 90 cars have been pushed off their rails, near Upper Big Chute Rd. and Severn Bridge, roughly 50 kilometres northwest of Orillia.

The head-on crash happened around 4 a.m.

By 6 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police had not heard of any injuries related to the collision, but Const. Peter Leon did know that grain had spilled from some of the cars.

Leon said that it was too early to tell if any hazardous material was leaking from the wreck.

"At first light, we'll have a better idea of how big of an area has been affected," he said.

OPP crews are in the process of setting up a command post in the region

Since this is trail related, maybe it should be moved to the Central Region forum.
