On Saturday we ran the Railbed (B106E) from Ormsby Jct. up past Lake St. Peter & it was in decent shape. B106E north of LSP was even better, lots of snow on the trail.

The odd spot where you could see where water had run across the trail. There was a couple of spots where the trail is wind swept & the snow was kind of thin. Snow covered, but you could hear the gravel. One spot was north of Ormsby Jct & the other was between Maynooth & LSP.

The trail thru Bancroft was in good shape. Just watch out catching up to people walking their dogs. They make no eye contact w/ you, so you have no idea if they know that you're coming up behind them or not.

Looking for a reccomendation:

taking B106E to Whitney then I have two options:

1) take B west to Haliburton then E east to E109, back to B016E

2) take B east to Barry's Bay then E109 west back to B106E

comments on where to have lunch and get gas and approximate mileage would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

go towards barry's bay on the E109!!!!!!!!! then back down the B trail to whitney on the railbed. from there take your pick to head down the B trail to haliburton or on the E106 to LSP, but base your trip on that run and you wont be disappointed.

you can eat in whitney at the mad musher - haliburton at mckeck's. Lake St. Peter (LSP)at the algonquin (my preference)

the maple leaf snow skimmers map is the best:

Just heard that the trails are not rideable because they are all ice and they have not had any new snow.

Anyone else heard this or is not really the conditions. The ofsc report says limited and does not mention anything about lack of lube conditions.

I'm sure the trails are not very good today, but with snow friday the trails will be just fine for riding.

I know the Haliburton area got several inches of snow last night and it has been super cold since the day of rain also. I checked the Haliburton webcam this morning and there was for sure new snow on the ground. I am sure Bancroft being that close also recieved some white gold. There is a major dumping coming for this area...Let's keep our fingers crossed!!

The Highlands is a strange area. The region north of hwy 118 can have a significant amount more snow than in Minden and that is just about twenty kilometers south. Huntsville can also be very different too. The elevation and geography definately play a major role!

PRAY FOR A GOOD DUMP.....you read into that what you want. :rotflmao:

From Good to Great!

Spent three days on the Maple Leaf, Paudash, and Old Hastings trails this past weekend.

Thursday:

The lake in front of the cottage was glare ice, couldn't go over 20mph.

Ran B016E from Trudy's up to Lake St. Peter. Ran into a few bare spots and rocks on the south part of this run, but once we got to Bancroft trails were fine except for 1 spot south of Manooth. Note: good cell phone reception on the trail at Manooth! The furter north we went the better the trails were. The trails were flat and rock hard w/no bumps ;)... Got gas in Lake St. Peter, ate at the Algouiquin Lodge (good food thanks berry) and then ran 109 East over to Commbinare(sp?). We were thinking of running up to BB and looping around the B trail but ran out of time, so we doubled back. There is one large tree accross the trail on 109 that isn't marked very well. We were ok in daylight, at night it's a real hazard and was too big for us to move. It was starting to snow on the way home.

Friday Snow. Snow. Snow it had snowed overnight and snowed all day. About 6-8" of fresh snow really improved the conditions!

We ran West on the E trail over to the Paudash trails and ran the E trail up to Wilberforce, continued on E to Hardcourt and stopped for lunch/gas. Ran E up to 109 East back to Lake St. Peter and back down B106E to the E trail. It was an awsome day! Trails were in great shape and there was very little traffic. Ran into the Old Hastings groomer on our way home.

Saturday... a beautiful day.

Ran Limerick lake(staked) then over to Gunter and to the Air Strip, the up trail 30 almost to McAuther Mills then over and back down the forest access roads to Devil Lake, back accross Limerick and home.

Trails were a 9.5 out of 10, our crew of six had a great time.

Planning to return in a few weeks. These clubs do a great job on the trails!!
