Log Haul - Near MIss - Opasatika (Northern Corridor)

It was reported today that a log haul truck nearly clipped a sled that failed to stop when crossing Fergus Road (near Opasatika). The sled was one of a group of three.

This road crossing has been well flagged with reflective pylons and stop signs to reflect the danger. No logging truck driver wants to be responsible for hitting someone and no club wants to respond to an incident that could have been avoided. Please note the location on the ITG screenshot attached.

How many times are we going to hear about this, before sledders wake up. We have rode thru logging operations a million times. NO ISSUES. All it takes is common sense, slow the FACK down in these areas, and let the guys in the equipment see you first, and go bye. Very easy to do. We came upon a truck coming in off hwy 11, on the c trail south this past Friday, near smooth rock falls.  It was far enough away, we could have made the crossing, but our group decided to wait, let him go by, and then we continued on. No issues. Plain and simple..

Well, you'd THINK it was easy, but nooooooo.

And have you noticed that when you wait, you usually get a big wave or thumbs up from the driver on his way by?

Appreciate your comments......I was trying to be diplomatic. LOL

Maple Leaf SnoSkimmers had a scoreboard on E109 a few years ago.

Approaching an road crossing @ the Goldcorp mine in Timmins across from Food Basics. Truck driver stopped & flashed his moose lights. We waved &  continued on.
