From their Face Book page

==================================================================================

As you know the Ice storm of 2013 has brought uncertainty to our B202 (The Elora to Cataract Trailway) and our other HSR trails for this 2014 season.
Downed trees have made our trails and the B202 unsafe and impassable. The Grand River Conservation Authority(GRCA) have told us to stay off the property and gates are to remain closed until further notice. This applies to the Fergus club and north as well.

The GRCA have said that this storm is worse than the tornado that went ...through a few years back because of how wide spread the ice storm was. They predict that it will take 3-6 months of clean up before they will reopen the gates as they have to prioritize and their parks will come first. They do not have the resources, $ and manpower to complete this clean up. They are working on a plan.. and in the mean time our executive called an emergency meeting last night to discuss what we were going to do. It was decided after much deliberation that we will place ads in the local papers, post notices at post offices, do a email message blitz, and we are asking for your assistance to get the word out as well. If anyone can volunteer to help clear some of our trails while we wait for the decision from the Grand River and Credit River Conservation Authorities regarding the B202 it would be a good place to start.

However it was also decided that we will give this attempt of collecting volunteers until Jan 12th and make a decision by the week ending Jan 19th on how much head way we have made and re evaluate at that time. Insufficient help means trails will not open this season. There are certain protocols that we need to work within and only certified chain saw operators are to be used when cutting trees... how ever anyone can help remove the brush and clear already down trees.. so we need many volunteers.

If the B202 is not going to open we want to clear and get the east trail for riders to be able to hook up with Orangeville to help hook them to the rest of the clubs and districts.

If you are interested in being placed on the Ice Storm work day sheet please call 519-855-9686 and please provide dates and times you will be able to assist as well as if you are certified for use of a chain saw.
Dates for starting clearing are Sat Jan 4 , Sunday Jan 5 , Sat Jan 11, Sunday Jan 12. Starting times will be 8: 30 am to 1 pm and if volunteers are plentiful we will try to run two shifts per day.
In the days to come until this Sat work day landowners must be called to ask of what they wish for their properties. We will be compiling this information so our work days will be effective.
Thanking you in advance for your assistance and please spread the word.. One does not have to be a sledder to appreciate the rail line so please spread the word.

Thank you.

Hillsburgh Executive.

Every bushlot and fence line has been hit hard if we get a trail cleared it will be just passable as the amount of labour required to clear back would eat most of season up. There also a lot of springloaded trees due to the 3 inches of ice build on them and bent right over but not snapped very messy to clean up
