SledHead Adventure 2010 - Sault Ste. Marie-Halfway Haven-Wawa-Hornepayne-Hearst

This year our SledHead Group + the ireREVerent's headed to the Sault to make the trip up the Agawa Canyon and experience the Tracks n Trails ride back from Hearst.

After the wonderful weekend in Huntsville at the OC Ride 4 Kelly - we loaded up the trailers and headed out to the SOO to begin this adventure. However, faces were glum as we spied the dismal trail conditions all the way there and kept our fingers crossed that they snow conditions would be better once we reached our destination. To our dismay - they did not!

After some discussion with other OC Members here on the forum (Thanks for all your suggestions!), and a discussion with one of the Sault Trailblazers' groomers - we headed further north to Searchmount to stage from there. The spring sun has done it's damage with quite a large stretch of bare road to run!

Re-organizing on the fly - always fun! :phonecall:

We left our trucks and trailers with a local fellow who charged us only $10 for the week/truck & trailer and was very close to the trail :-P A big Thank You to the folks at the Searchmount Trading Post for helping us arrange this.

Once on the trails - it was obvious that they hadn't seen a groomer in some time. But - it wasn't all bad - one section of the Whitnam Dam Road was SWEET!

The last 10kms or so into Halfway was BRUTAL - it was like riding in D7 on a Sunday afternoon! The only thing that made it all better was arriving at Halfway to a great bowl of soup and some warm hospitality from Gail & Steve!

For those folks that have never had the opportunity to visit this very unique and charming "Haven" in the middle of nowhere - put it on the "bucket list" and DO IT! Certainly now one of our most favourite places to stay.

Gail & Steve cooked us up a wonderful steak dinner, with all the trimmins and a hearty breakfast the next morning to send us on our way to Wawa. The groomer had been down a couple of days prior and the trail to Wawa was more like what we had expected! :-D
