Krusty
Well I have finally gotten a chance to sit down at the computer to write the report on our trip last week, and will attempt to post some pics as well. The trip started last Tuesday night with a trip to my brothers cottage in Baysville to load up all the sleds & gear for our trip to Lillabelle. As we arrived in a significant snow storn we all felt that this trip was meant to be. We loaded up the 5 sleds (All 4-stroke Yammies of course) on our over sized 4-place trailer & hooked them up to an 06 Limited Sequoia, caught a couple of hours shut eye & hit the road at 4:30am. Pulling out of Baysville in a heavy snow fall we felt we were going to be in for a long slow ride...well it ended up being a little longer & slower since one of our group realised his boots were still at HIS cottage just before we hit hwy 11. Back to the cottage we went, got the boots & back on the road. We arrived at Lillabelle at about 12:30 checked in with our old friends Rod & Kim at Lillabelle, unloaded the sleds & headed out for our first real ride of the season...oh yea it was -28c. Needless to say even though we were glad to be riding again is was awefull cold. We rode around the Cochrane area for a couple of hours before heading back to Lillabelle for an awesome roast beef dinner. Thursday am we headed out of Cochrane towards Timmins to run the C trail down to Gogama & our final destination of 3 Bears in Shining Tree. Needless to say the trails were in the fantastic shape you come to expect from this area with just a bit of road running due to logging, but all in all the riding was great. We arrived at 3 Bears about 6:00 pm after riding around 300 km for our first full day of riding. The stay at 3 Bears was great, food & hospitality were excellent. Friday morning we ran the 107a through Gowganda to Elk lake & caught the A trail north back to Cochrane, again some plowed road due to logging on 107a but the trails were top shelf with little traffic & excellent grooming. It was 430 kms going back to Lillabelle in Cochrane so a pretty big day as far as kms go but it was impossible to wipe the smiles off our faces riding those trails. Once back at Lillabelle we were once again treated to a great meal (pork chops) & service from Rod & Kim. Unfortunatly I forgot to take my camera on our trip to Shining Tree so the only pics we got were for our final day of riding up to the Abatibbi Canyon. We took the trail out of Cochrane & ran up to the canyon anxious to try the new trail from the canyon down to Smooth Rock. The trip up for those of you who are familiar with the trail was awesome untill we got just before the rail road tracks, then it was rough enough that we had to slow down to between 60-80 kms for aprox 50 kms. They unfortunatly had a groomer break down so the middle section going up was a little slower than the pace we had been riding the past couple of days. The canyon was certainly better this year than last year (more snow) & we had a good time playing in the canyon before we set out to check out the new trail down to Smooth Rock. This new trail was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! It runs down the hydro lines, super wide, very, very, very FAST. Lots of areas that you can run powder beside the trail & some great risers that you can catch some great air. You all owe it to yourselves to check this trail out...you will not be disappointed. The last day ended up around 390 kms so all in all we put some decent kms on the kind of trails that just keep you coming back for more! Can't wait till our Dueberville trip at the end of Feb.
