  1. A long track is ideal for towing and carrying stuff into a cottage. Handle slush better and less likely to get stuck near cottage as well. Polaris makes lots of reliable snowmobiles, so does skidoo and articat. If you don’t have power at cottage or generator, maybe better off with a 2 stroke, since you can start them with a recoil unlike four strokes. Fan sleds are good for riding lakes with less snow cover, since use air to cool engine, not snow like liquids.  Show a picture of what you get, thanks. Safe travels

Planning to do day ride with my family Sudbury area tomorrow on East side of Wanapitei Lake, I see some yellow trails there. Any idea where  can I park my truck and trailer for 5-6 hours. Usually I park at Sudbury Trail Plan Association yard, but trails is still not open there. Sportsman's Lodge Wilderness Resort not a option, they not allow to park if you dont have a room reserved. Thanks

George still there? Maybe if you call and ask him if you can park for day and throw him  10 dollars he probabily wouldn’t mind, unless it is full of trucks and trailers for weekend. Maybe soup has another idea.

  3. Go check out hsa site. Another close incident of riders riding closed trails. Hope no one gets hurt riding trail 15 or that might be end of snowmobile trail use on some trails there. Can’t fix stupid!

Nothing like riding thru an active blast site and living to tell about it. That could have turned bad real quick.

thanks to nunz for invite up north but work schedule won’t play out.

Too bad. I can’t leave until the following week, but I am flexible for rest of March. Maybe next year. I keep you in mind since I do get several block weeks thru winter that I can be flexible too.

crossing fingers hoping the VRT from Fenelon changes from RED before Saturday.

Hailburton said they were going to do an update on map today. So maybe some other options will be open for you if you start farther north. Cross your fingers!

I really hope this cold air comes in and pushes the front from the gulf more south to avoid this rain they are calling for.

Wait and see. Really tough call a few days out but mild weather they seem to be able to predict well, along with you know what.
another polish sled weekend I suppose as they claim we are set to break many records. That is never good news. Maybe we will get a blizzard this time around.

The code would prompt the operator to shut the engine off or might possibly shut the engine off automatically if the overheating continued meaning no major damage occurs to the engine and thereby requiring only a water pump replacement not writing off the sled! JMHO

Just seen one four stroke doo this. The engine was a right off Apparantly happened so fast on a lake run, engine was toast before warning code came up. It was a 2011, 1200 doo. I think new sleds are much smarter and more protection in them, but wierd things can still happen occasionally, especially in extreme circumstances like Dennis pointed out.

14 years riding a 4 stroke alongside other 4 stroke Yamahas and I've never seen those or any other ones overheated.

If water pump fails the sled can over heat in a hurry and not throw a warning code. Rare but does happen from time to time.

This would never have happened if he had borrowed a Yamaha  .... humm.

Oh come on Yamaha fan. All manufactures have trouble and when a four stroke breaks sled is a write off. Way less likely then a two stroke but you can still over heat a four stroke easily and damage motor on a sled.

  10. We had the same thing happen to a Mach z, years ago. We cut trip short and my friend paid his uncle for half repairs. It was only one cylinder and position and rings. Crank was fine. So I think half would be fair  and he gets a rebuilt motor with a warranty. Good luck.
Then you get to borrow sled again under good terms.

I got the impression talking to a farmer friend of mine that the new trespass regulations applied to all of his farm property and not just the barn. His cattle graze on almost all of the property with the exception of what he uses for hay that year.

Not sure how government is going to regulate it, if it even passes. Pretty sure it will have some sort of boundary limitations that need to be posted though. Wait and see. Could be a couple of years yet even if it does go thru.

Just curious but the province just toughened up the laws significantly around trespass on farm property primarily around livestock concerns. Perhaps the laws have enough latitude that they could apply  to snowmobilers on farm property.

They will apply to snowmobilers no doubt. How big of a zone around farm buildings that have live stock remains to be seen. This zone will have to be clearly posted too. Most likely a certain radius around building. 15 meters or something like that. We have zones now for bio security which is 15 meters (called called caz (controlled access zone) Probabily won’t be any where near a trail but if a person trespasses and goes near or into zone then new rules will apply, if the government passes them.
    wait and see.

I see enforcement EVERY ride in PQ. Be it club members wearing vests FULLY empowered to stop and check riders, or SQ officers strategically placed. They know what they're doing, what to look for, and don't waste their time. Or mine.

75% of the time we're waved through.

I'm not in Mt Laurier or equivalent usually, I tend to avoid the tourist areas and popular drop points if I can. I like to ride.

I cut the numbers off my Ontario "plate" and stuck them on the sled. I'm not about style or fashion. That said, I've never had one of our groups hassled about numbers.

If I had a complaint here, it's about locally sledding for 3 years, evenings and the odd weekend, and never seeing visible enforcement. It makes everyone nervous.

I have been stopped in hailburton on railway line b103 coming into town.
Also in mattawa area by police officers in a patrol vehicle where trail comes out before and after river. (2 officers on either side of river using radio’s. I think vehicle has a camera too, so they get plate of sled very easily when you come out of trail. I asked and he said compliance was very good in area.
Other then that haven’t been stopped much. At home they use to patrol power line out of new Hamburg and near st clements club house. But not much snow last few years to get some riding in.
Out there but not necessarily all day. After a few hours if they aren’t seeing any issues, they most likely leave.

Tricky.  Good post.  I am not sure what you mean about being censored.  If you are offering helpful advice, without advocating trespassing on private land or other irresponsible behaviour, I cannot see you being censored on here.

As for the washout crossing, I, for one, would also be hesitant to cross open water, especially when it would be a long ride to some place to get warm and dry again.  Than you for the information for the bypass.

X2. No one wants to get wet on a long ride in middle of no where. That is no fun and could turn tragic real fast.

On this same line of thinking say the OPP catches the idiot who ran round the property scaring all the livestock and whatnot. Instead of a fine how about marching the fool back to the peoples property, escort this person right to the door and tell them to apologize ON VIDEO and PUBLISH that on the OPP twitter feed. If the apology is insincere there is also a fine, but the idea that we are trying to improve relations to land owners as a federation would be served well by this, plus it makes the coppers look like they are invested in improving the situation not polarizing things further through hate and tax bills.

Yes just opp don’t have resources to do this. It might be too late to save trail after an incidence happens. Being proactive is much better approach. I am sure ofsc is working hard on this and government is coming up with new farm land fines that start at 15,000 and relate strictly to farm animals and live stock. So if a sledders goes and scares a horse on thier snowmobile and is convicted they will most likely be fined 15 g’s for a first offence.  Once new fines become law hopefully the ofsc will advertise the fines. I know catching people is a problem on its own and we going to need some enforcement to get people to comply.

Why doesn’t the OFSC attach a online training program to the permit purchase?

have an educational video of “x” minutes stating the facts about trespassing and loss of trails.  Show some examples and the lost trail.   Maybe a map of where trails were lost and the reroutes required.

If you do not watch video your permit transaction does not go through.

Its only a thought on educating.  Might not sink in with people.  Might piss off a few or a lot but message has to get out and be heard.

Maybe making every permit holder volunteer for a few weekends a year would be better. Only volunteers are eligible for Early permit price and rebate it back after volunteer sessions are filled.

I’ve got them both listed. If they sell, cool...if not, we’ll ride them if we can. But if we do sell them, it will be a temporary thing. Wife and I will be keeping all our gear as I’ll still ride the kids bravo and she can ride her dads old Indy. It would be nice to free up a bit of money if they’re just going to sit there....

Ahhhhhhh! Well good luck to you either way. Cheers, hope to read your singhampton reports in a few weeks.

Thankyou! We just got about 3-4” today

    time to sell the other???

Hahah. I think it is your turn now. Not ready to leave sport yet, even if I get zero km’s this season. Won’t be first and won’t be last. I use sled around farm so not costing me much to keep it.
