No real knowledge on current conditions.  I can tell you this.  Haliburton Lake has some currents in it and is typically one of the later lakes to be safe.  I cut holes in Skootamattta Lake yesterday.  Its is one of the earlier lakes to freeze and is a similar distance north with similar weather patterns.  We have 7" in the area the stake line runs.  Typically for 3rd week of February that would be well over 16".  I've seen over 24" some years.  So no good data, but my guess is the later lakes to freeze like Muskoka, Haliburton, Chandos, Mazinaw etc may not get there this year.  Could be wrong, but thats my 2 cents.  If in doubt, don't go or go check yourself before crossing.  Not worth the risk.  Hopefully someone who is local and on that lake can give you some better info.

I sure miss eagle and moose crossing. That would open fairly early in year just after head lake in town. Really too bad we lost access that way. I betcha there is spots in hailburton lake at 2 to 3" still, with whacko weather. It was never staked last year either I think?

Nothing to write home about, in the last week. We didn't get the snow the south got. Just enough to make it look white again. Another plus temp warm up for 4-5 days coming, the last days of feb, first days of march. Ski

Maybe three feet coming for middle of March like last year 😎
Wasn't too long ago half way thru the towel in too much snow. So you just never know what's going to happen.
Very rare dub and wawa area's don't get some good snow falls. Remember Moe's cases of beer and fake girls 😆. Good ole days.

After replacing a bunch of bent studs and a brand new set of carbides from my week in quebec, I am not in the right frame of mind to ride sh-tty trails any time soon.

My Lynx can stay parked if thats all that there is to ride.

Those are wear items anyways. As long as you don't rip studs out of track I say it's not too bad.

Great info. If that's the case then all Shell 93 will be E Free. The refinery isn't going to make 2 versions of the lowest volume selling octane they make.  I've also heard that there's no E in any grade of fuel during the winter months (northern ont.).  I would highly recommend filling a jerry can and testing it tho before you dump a bunch into a sports car or a boat. At the end of the day, if this is misinformation you'll be SOL on any recourse (IE impossible to prove).  Premium fuels are the biggest money makers (highest profit margin) for the station owners so "trust, but verify"

I test it. I pump first 3 L into truck too. Haven't been back to station lately. I get back to everyone. Thanks

Well we where going to start in Temiscaming

    To Val+for

    To pouir De lacs 100

    To st raymond

    To Roberval

    To Chibouqamau

    To Val -dor

    Back to Temiscaming

Was going on the 18th but cancelled trip postponed it another week and will see what happens.

Not too promising this year might still have a brand new sled next year with no miles on it.

You might have to go farther into Quebec to start. My friend lives in

Temiscaming. ice base on trails but roads are shot.  Maybe weather will turn around 😎.

What the sun didn't take, the rain is killing. It will take a week or more of very below freezing temps, and close to 2 feet of snow for us to start to provide trails, we are all used to. Unsure if our area can recover, and even open this season. We are here in Dub, and onsite, it isnt pretty all along the algoma region. Ski

That's bad too. Is motel in town steady with workers still? I bet resturant in town is feeling absence of sledders too.

We rode the trails in Bancroft Barry's Bay area on Monday and Tuesday and they were late spring like conditions. We were surprised how good they actually were.

I still be disappointed if I went.

My dad had a 2000 XCR 800 and it was a great sled and yes we wished we had kept it too

They are nice. Fast sled and realible. Seen few not in real great shape. That 2000 seems to be rare to find. First year of new round design.

The 600's, especially the carb version, were good running dependable motors. Polaris was slashing prices to win back buyers because the Fusion name had tainted everything.

They also had those 755's or what ever they were.

And the '05 and '06 900's were different designs.

The '07 IQ sleds were nothing more than the Fusion chassis with the mountain hood.

I'm sure Polaris would like to remove 2005-2009 from most sled buyer's memories.

Yeah it was an 07, carb iq. Fun sled to ride for most part. It was a little tippy. Didn't realize it was still fushion with mountain hood. My dad rode Polaris since 60's. His first skidoo was a 2017 grand touring that he enjoyed for 3 years before he died. He didn't like look and design of rush sleds at the time.

I was debating between the Fusion 900 and the Skidoo 1000. I built a pool for the Polaris dealer that summer so that sealed the deal.

I potentially would have lost either way. I traded it in on an '07 Switchback 600 EFI after 2 seasons. I paid $11400 for the 900, They gave me $5500 trade in against $11000 for the 600. The dealer sold it through auction for $3500. The crank seal was out of it behind the primary and the motor mounts were broke again. The reflectors in the headlights were rattling around in the lens, the adjustable steering post was sloppy and the tail light didn't work. What a POS.....lol  All of us got screwed on that sled.

I remember they still had 900's sitting in the crates in 2008 and they were selling them for $3999.

They had 600's too. Bought a 600 cc iq for my dad. Too good of a deal to pass up. No issue with that one. My uncle still has it today with just under 15,000 km's on odometer.

Zero shoreline ice along Hamilton/Burlington beaches. Usually it’s all pushed up and fun to walk around on. Looks like summer with the sand.

Yeah going to be a cooker summer. Lake should be nice and warm by may 24 weekend 😆. Maybe it be good for beer sales.

The Storms were not that bad - and the original 747 ( 1993 only ) was actually pretty good.

My 2000 XCR 800 was an incredible sled/motor.

3 sleds I should have kept and regret not doing so

1996 Ultra 680 - once I put the SLP triple pipes and Erlandson clutch kit etc. on, it was one of the most fun sleds to ride - it was so fast in the trails

2000 XCR 800 - just a great engine and sled - loved it

2004 Pro-X 600 - it had low mileage -handled amazing - I almost kept it to have a Carls Cycle 660 kit put in it and should have

    Polaris are doing great things.

    Cat are doing great things

There are a lot of great sleds out there to choose from - we're lucky- but the pricing is killing the sport

I wish I had kept my 1994 Polaris xcr 440. It had 14,000 miles though.
Those Polaris ultra with xtra 12 was pretty nice too.
Weather killing sport now. Seen so many nice used ones come up for sale lately too.

One of my riding buddies blew the bottom case apart on an almost new Storm in 1998. Leaving Hearst heading to Cochrane one morning and just got on the first freeway stretch. I was following him and he wasn't up to cruising speed yet when a big cloud of grey smoke came out of the bottom of the sled. Towed it back to the dealer in Hearst where last rites were performed.

    Eeekeee.
I have no experience with Polaris triples. Only tripple I ever owned was that 2003 Yamaha viper. Good engine, good handling sled. Ride was terrible for it's time.
Mach z we had trouble with engines. My friend blew his up twice. Then he got a Mach 1  700 late 99's model no issues with that one.
I have been eying some classic to purchase and maybe there is a reason you can't find many storms 😆, especially in wedge chassis.
I came across a nice 1993 xlt special with 2300 original miles. The guy has owned it since 1994. Thinking of going and getting it for fun. Looks mint for year.,

The 600's didn't have motor issues like the 900's. They were decent. There were still quality issues with all the Fusions.

Every time you had your Fusion in to the dealer and they did a recall repair, the dealer would add a sticker to the airbox so others would know what had been done. My 900 had 13 stickers after 2 years......😁

I believe I took it back to the dealer 7-8 times during those 2 years and I had to tow it off the trail twice. The dealers weren't a lot of help because these things were all over their service bays with very few answers from Polaris. Mechanics taking apart sleds they'd never seen before.

One of the recalls was to put a zip tie on the main wiring harness connector because in one of the previous recalls the mechanics had to disconnect and reconnect that plug but the problem was the little keeper latch that held the 2 halves together would break and then the plugs would come apart later. That was how I ended up with a sled that shut off and would not restart on the Sequin. I got towed into Sprucedale on a strap. A local with a trailer took my sled and myself back to Oxtongue Lake where I was staying and helped me load it on my trailer.

Its funny now but it was not so much then.😁

Wow I see why you aren't a Polaris guy now. 😆

Who knows the why on this one. Glad he was caught, removed from the trails.

Exactly. Be pretty scary if he was drugged up  riding all over place. Last thing you think about is a sledder having a gun in his back bag 😳.

I saw 3 bikes on the road this afternoon. There will be more out tomorrow.

I may bring my old truck home so I can get some work done on it. Day time highs above zero here until Tuesday and no snow.

More pictures on Facebook from Cochrane today. Lots of mud and brown snow. People are asking how the trails are even open.

    Crazy winter.

I seen bikes too. This is similar to 1999 just a tad warmer. It was second warmest winter on record. Wonder if this one will top it?

Up to +12 in Mississauga on Friday and Sunny.  This is really bizarre,.

+6 in Cochrane.  I can't remember the last time it was that warm up there in February.

1999. I believe. I got rained out in north bay this time of year. Not as bad as this year  up to now but after rain it never came back. That was end of sledding season. Got 300 miles on before rain ruined it. Stopped at deer hurst on way home that year it was real bad. Everyone was packing up going home or taking chance to go to Cochrane.
