  1. So currently at Haliburton Forest.

    180km today.
Left base camp at 9am.   Trails were decent. I definitely have ridden worse green trails in Ontario.

North end is better than south.

Carbides are likely beat up maybe pretty good.  Oh well.  I have another set!!

I had scratchers down a lot on my sled.  But not many others did.

Tonight on way in all the main trails were down to bare ice as all the racers had the snow spun right off.

still worth the day for sure.

    see what snow tonight brings.

Wonder who came up with that number.  No doubt they've been busy.  But 15,000 sleds in one day?  You're talking 15% of the permitted sleds in Quebec.  Doesn't seem right.

It was a local guy in Quebec I know that told me.  Not sure who did the count but with no snow anywhere else rideable in Ontario and Quebec it’s feasible that there were a crap ton of sleds there.

there is a lot of guys that could trailer there for a day also.

    Wow, that was quick.

    @RAMSOMAIR

There you go, fill your boots - some positives for a change!

    I suggest midweek ride thiough......:coffeenose:

With only 100 sleds allowed per day and 350 km open trails it should be a lot fewer sleds then Mt Valin.

A friend from Quebec said there was 15,000 sleds in M t Valin area last weekend

I am not starting nor spreading this rumour but I heard from someone in the PS Industry that Perf Rec has self terminated as a Polaris Dealer?    Anyone else hear this?

It’s amazing that Polaris has 6 or 7 dealers within about a hour drive of Orillia.

That's fun of snowmobiling is going different places. If I had to leave my sled at one spot and ride in 75 km radis with thousands of other riders because it's only area that gets reliable snow. I am out.
I enjoy going different places, staying in different area's. Seeing different things.
That's what's snowmobiling is about. Not stuck in one area or lake like a boat 😎
Some do leave thier trailers up north later in sesson and lock it up and drive home without it. That's happening already in many area's. Hate to do it with 50k worth of stuff though.
You be riding before all of us again. 😎

I think you’re missing the point on what was the base of the idea.

And Dan will probably see more different trails and things in a smaller area in a 100km trip then most riders will see on a groomed trail in a week.

Hell I have ridden with guys who watch nothing more then the 100 feet in front of them.   And although riding for 400km have seen nothing but the groomed trail and snow flap in front of them.

Gotcha. Not much is selling unless you want to chop price by another 30 percent.

That guy that has xcr I have been watching has knocked off 2000 and still not selling. He wants 17500 now.  Afraid to buy a new one now, with this crazy market.

You can buy a 2022 XCR 850 with warranty into 2026 for less than $17,500.

    likely a 650:also

I am thinking the same thing.    Unless I absolutely hate my 24 Lynx, I will be riding it for at least 2 years.   My dealer was just telling me that he cant remember selling as many BEST warranties as they have the last 3 months.    Lots of guys have decided to hang onto their 21/22s that are running out of warranty and are thinking its cheaper to spend $2K on an ext warranty than $12K to trade machines.

Yes the decision to keep a sled is much easier when dealer offers you $12,000 on your year old $24,000 sled.

It’s amazing how many guys thought the big money on trades was going to continue.

i hear lots of walk a ways on snow checks this year.

Big Time Truth. I hope all the dealers can survive 2024, but I suspect some will fail if we don't get cold very soon, followed by snow in January. February will be too late for some dealers if the OEMs don't offer some cost of inventory help. Hope I am wrong. With Yamaha departing the show, I can see the remaining three retailing sleds directly shortly.

The smart dealers are already prepared for the slowdown and return to pre Covid.

They good ones knew it was coming 8 or 9 months ago when snow check did not sell out.

And dealers now will get creative on their ways to make money and how to shave / make points on financing.

  9. With 1.2 to 1.5 million people coming to Canada in 2023 and the strain / drain on our current infrastructure and housing I would not expect the power grid to magically get in any better condition to support an additional 1 million or whatever the number of electric cars anytime soon.

Not only will we need infrastructure for new electric vehicles but also the added vehicles that the new immigrants will require and also the power and grid to supply the new homes to house all the new population.

As our current government has not approved or started the process for new power plants or dams I would be guessing any switch to electric vehicles will not be possible   Unless new electric vehicle technology greatly improves.

I've been told by a station owner his pricing is based on what was paid for it at the time of delivery. Also still carries brand name E-free premium as do some others. As always believe what you will.

Yeah I have seen far too  often 3 or 4 stations that are grouped together at an intersection all magically get fuel all at the same time and all drop price.

  11. We rode up there last year in 3rd week of January.  I am not sure it it was new management or old but despite all of the hype I had read I thought we were treated and received fairly well by staff.  No we could not get a hotdog as the fuel man was only employee there that day and he was busy running pump and cashing out guys.  Food girl was on a supply run and not there yet.

Coffee and hot chocolate was free that day I think   And do not really care if it was $2 or more   It was hot.

I imagine some people might have been upset with the service   But our group of 5 had no issues.   And yes we spent a pile on gas   Probably $500 for the group.   But we had a blast on way up and down.  And we needed the gas as a couple guys were right empty when we hit Cochrane

  12. Starting to consider heated gloves.  I find when we stop my hands get cold then I am screwed for awhile after.

    What does everyone use?

200 gram back of hand and 100 gram front of hand.?

Or do I need 300gram back and 200gram front?

I really hate a thick padded glove that you can’t close around the bars.

We have enough oil reserves in Canada to service our demand for over 1000 years. I've said this before so I'll say it again. Can you imagine how good we would have it if the stoppid federal libs put all their efforts into improving Canadas oil and gas industry instead of gutting it? Start with nation wide pipeline supply to every province and Territory. Offer incentivized profit sharing to all employees who innovate ideas to improve emissions on refining. Take all the carbon tax off and cut the rest of the tax in half. This alone would make it financially impossible to import oil into Canada which would save massive emissions. Once we had supply finalized and working add a 1% tax for a university solely dedicated to improving ICE emissions and performance again with profit sharing incentives for students who develop technology that improves overall gains in both areas. Patent and sell at fare rates the useage of said tech to the rest of the worlds manufacturers which will do a massive amount more to reduce emissions than any stupid carbon tax ever will. Remember this school would be focused on all transportation. Looking for gains and improvements everywhere; trains, planes, autos, boats all of it. Off the top of my head I would easily believe we could see a 50% drop in fuel useage in ten years if we focused on how to use fuel better instead of leaving it as is and simply how to make it more expensive. Once this is moving along add a 5% tax and bind it to law to eradicate Canadas debt. Once the debt is gone use the 5% to generate a sovereign wealth fund. Using only gains upon this fund never touching the principal to improve health care. Begin the same model with health care where we improve care and service to worlds number 1 ranking. Then use half the gains from the fund to service this system once completed #1 ranking and the other half to start a medical university with sole purpose of innovating newer and better health care technology again with profit sharing to the students who invent things/drugs/etc that improve health. License those patents out globally. Once that system is up and running we can start serious talks of what to do next

imagine if a part of the $43 billion in electric vehicle subsidies given to EV battery plants to buy jobs was actually invested in natural gas and oil pipelines into Quebec and the Maritimes?

Our countries investment could earn revenue, eliminate imported dirty oil, provide natural gas to Quebec by more efficient pipeline over rail cars.

But then the East Canada power families who are heavily invested in utilizing cheap dirty oil would have to make a little less.

So 200 a stick based on having two or 400 for one?

I thought I recall my nephew telling me his sons sticks were $600 based on going through four last season costing $2400….or maybe it was $400 and breaking six….

Either way, expensive sticks and sport….kind of like sledding..lol

Don’t forget the gas and Baileys for mom and dad’s coffee in the stands!

crap adds up quick when the moms start drinking

  15. I already purchased Ontario and am now looking at Quebec permit as I have 1 trip booked already and possibly more.

I find it interesting how they openly show online where the permit money is allocated.  Easy to find on the website.  Insurance, magazine, clubs share, etc.

Would openly showing how the OFSC permit money is allocated in the system help justify a little larger increase in price to the end user?

I’m not seeing anyone mentioning the new cat 858 engine release for 2025 and the new gauge, so figured I would.

11% more power over the 800 across the entire power band, I’m sure someone knows the estimated power of the 800 so can take an educated guess on numbers for the 858.
I always thought I read the 800 class engine was an overachiever the last few years as well, if so, the above sounds very promising.

Does that replace the 4 stroke as Yamaha deal done in 2025?

Or a stop gap to fill out product line until AC develops their own 4s turbo?

Will there be a 2 stroke turbo option released in time for 2025 early orders?

Very well said. Climate change plan needed to be carried out over 20 years instead of 8 or 10 years they are to reach target limits by 2030. 🤣

Just adding to woes for every day Canadians. It’s going to get worse if someone doesn’t do somthing rational. If he wins again natural gas might be obsolete here by 2035 ish 🤦‍♂️. He wants to turn current ng infrusture into green hydrogen. We all have to run out and buy new furnaces, water heaters, driers etc 🤣.  But it be zero emissions right

When your adding your new car charging base station it will be easy to add the rest.

Most likely all ex-Liberal cronies likely own the manufacturing plants for all this green gear!
