I will have to check at work what we get.

At a previous employer we did not make margin on warranty parts.  Small construction equipment supplier dealing with smaller manufacturer.

Then again maybe I was misled by owner also.

    Different industries have different standards

Dealers have to apply for warranty consideration.  Sometimes they are refused and either have to fight for it or bill customer for repair or eat the cost of repair.

And the factory gives the warranty parts to dealer but dealer does not make margin on these parts.  only makes money on the Labour on the warranty repair.   And warranty repair might be at a set rate for labour on a repair while labour might be higher if they run into an issue during the repair.

Its better for a dealer to do a customer billed job as they make money on parts and labour.

I wouldn't be so sure of that information.

  3. Long story, but back in about 2003 4 of us were planning a trip to ride from Thedford Ontario to Kapuskasing. I was riding a rather Problematic machine at the time and didn't trust it to make the trip. I went in to Fast Track Performance in Dorchester,  who I had been dealing with for parts for a while, and told Charlie that I needed a used sled that he could guarantee would make the trip. Bought a 2001 Zrt 800 that he had. 2 days later we were on the trails. About 10kms from from finishing the trip in Kap, I called him from the side of the trail, and let him know she seized up. He said drop it off when you get home. It took 2 jugs, pistons, crank and balance shaft to rebuild it, and he handed it back. No questions asked.

I have now bought 4 sleds, 2 bikes and I would hate to guess how much other "stuff" from them, because of that customer service I received 18yrs ago.

I don't know where you ride - or what you ride - but it's undeniable that a studded track/sled not only handles better, but is safer in almost 100% of conditions. You either have never ridden one, or are lying to yourself in an effort to convince yourself to not spend the $500.00 bucks.

Even back in the old days - when you wanted to get power to the track - that had lugs below 1" - I couldn't imagine ripping around on my XCR 800 or piped up triples with no studs and I can guarantee you that a studded sled vs a non studded would blow the doors off you, it's not up for debate, it's a fact.

To each their own - I will never ride in Ontario without them and neither will my kids.

Current ride is a 19 ZR8000. Have ridden everything from 470 SkiDoo to ZRT800x2.

Ride everywhere from southern Ontario (home) to the northern corridor.

And bullshit on the 100% of conditions. You trying to convince me that in fresh snow a 1/4 round pin sticking out of a track makes a difference? Not a chance. Either you haven't ridden a sled without studs in so long that you have forgot what it's like, or you are brainwashed.

Oh, and of the 12 guys I regularly ride with, 1 is studded.

  5. Been riding for 30yrs myself, and have only had 1 sled that had studs. And that was because they were installed when I bought it. I have never encountered a situation  that would prompt me to spend the time and money to install them. Riding within the limits of what you have is key. And I ride hard.

  6. Did 600kms between yesterday and today. Yesterday got cut short when buddy clipped a rock and bent left side control arms. Got it back to his place and couple new parts from Royal and we were back at it today. Stay away from the south side of Sudbury. Around Lively it was pretty short on snow. Overall could some snow but was quite good for what they have.

Also want to apologize to @soupkids for not contacting him while we were there. Got busy rebuilding my kids sled during the week, and then Friday night had to replace front a arms, and realized once we were on the trail yesterday that I hadn't got ahold of him

  7. To say this season has been good would be an understatement. At 3800kms riding in District 5 and 9. And most of those riding directly out my door just west of London. Heading out for a short ride again today, then leaving Thursday to ride Sudbury area for a change of scenery. Then the following weekend in Haliburton area with my son. Pretty sure it is going to be a 5000km+ season.

I was talking  to a landowner yesterday who happens to have an OFSC trail running through his property located in Dr. Cheerios closed down area. Explained to me how he encountered 4 cross country skiers on his property and how they were frantically waving their ski poles as he approached on his sled. Thinking they may have needed assistance he slowly approached and shutdown his machine . He was immediately barraged with a bunch of 4 letter profanity laced threats telling him f’ing sleds are not allowed on the trail. He responded with, perhaps you didn’t see the no trespassing signs posted on the property. I own this property, so  get off it now. Being an avid sledder is the only reason he allows the trail on his land. That being said he is getting annoyed at sledders riding off trail. Could be another lost trail in the future.

He should have called the cops and had then charged with trespassing. That would have shut them up, and maybe got the word out to that crowd.

This is true. We have bought a new snowmobile and a new drag over the past couple of years for the stretch of D trail near Trout Lake in North Bay.

The equipment, fuel, insurance etc. to operate it is not funded by the OFSC. This is not a secondary trail as most people know.

I have been behind that groomer. Also pulled it out after the operator got it stuck trying to turn it around in then little pull off area. I honestly don't believe that setup does a lick of good.  It just doesn't have the weight to cut down moguls and make them flat. It more or less just rolls up and down over them.
