  1. Why are there sections of yellow still - just north and west of Elk Lake on these two trails. They should be in good shape by now?????? Heading that way Monday. Any local input would be great. Thanks MS
  2. Thanks - thats what i was looking for. Following the trail on the map its hard to tell if the ditches are prepped or its out on the road. MS
  3. Can someone who lives in the New Liskeard area comment on the A108Q - travelling east from Earlton - does that trail run the ditches or is it out on the road? Its hard to tell from the map. I have never travelled it before. Thanks MS
  4. Thanks for your help Soup. Given the amount of snow the trails were pretty good. I would recommend to stay north of Capreol to anyone going unless another 8-12" shows up. Started from Garson on the first half day - going north from there, lots of rocks tilled up in the base until north of the rail line. Once past there trails were good. The portages in the Wolf loop were pretty beat up but expected with such a low base. Wanapitei was fun to cross - lots of pressure cracks and high winds have left big ribs across the lake. Always enjoy the trails up there. Hope to be back. MS
  5. Hi Soup I gather your are referring to the grooming schedule RE wed and thurs? MS
  6. Staying with family in the south end of Sudbury, On Thursday was going to do the wolf loop and stage from STP yard. Then on Friday was going to stage from capreol and do the Moose. Just wanted to confirm the base was coming along. Heard the south end, was pretty sparse. MS
  7. Just looking for comments from someone in the area how these trails are coming along planning to ride there next Thursday and Friday, good snow? many rocks? thanks for ring the eyes and ears to the ground ms
  8. Thanks for plucking this off their FB page. Perfect MS
  9. The stretch of trail between Gowganda and Elk Lake is taking time to open Is there logging in that area this year? Any local insight would be appreciated. MS
  10. Thanks guys. Appreciate the help. MS
  11. Can anyone who knows the area suggest a spot where you can drop for the day in the Kirkland Lake area or along the Highway at Kenogami? Prefer somewhere close to the Hwy. Thanks MS

    Protection

I have wore a tekvest for about 7 yrs. Don’t mind it at all. I wear a light/mid thermal layer, then the vest. It’s tight to the body - not baggy. The coat fits over no problem, but i purchased a coat big enough to layer so i had the space. Never had an issue. Watched a friend get pitched off his sled a few years ago (at speed) and tumble across a road. Other than a bruise or two, and damaged ego he was good. The vest really helped. It really protects the torso. Slamming the upper body into an object, even the handle bars would easily cause some serious damage. I don’t necessarily wear it for concerns with any of my own shortcomings as a rider. As i get older i have had too many close calls with on coming traffic - through no fault of my own. Just concerned one day my number will be up. And btw - on cold days it absolutely keeps your centre of mass warm, as going 100kmh through -20 C air does not penetrate. MS
  13. Experts - you bet..... Two weeks to flatten the curve.... look where we are now. MS
  14. How is the snow holding up after the rain and warm temps? - heard New Liskeard is going to place trails as yellow , so they must have lost a lot. MS

    Zone9

I am west of there in SInghampton, our snow base is still reasonable but the roads and shoulders will be burned open - thats the weak link. MS
  16. How is the condition of this section of trail? Lots of yellow bits north of New Liskeard. Have the clubs kept up with grooming? Thanks MS
  17. Anyone run the C north to Shining Tree. Is it in reasonable shape? Is fuel available at Shining Tree ? Any details would be appreciated. MS
  18. Did the clubs bother staking the lake this year, that takes you over to PQ? It continues to be flagged red on the map - but that is due to covid restrictions and crossing borders most likely. Want to run from Ville Marie and cross the lake to New Liskeard. Thanks MS
  19. Now I didn’t go that far north, but keep your head up. A few pressure cracks , bit of chop ice. We were turning up slush and it was black underneath telling me we weren’t on a lot of ice may be different now ms
  20. How have the clubs kept pace with the grooming? This year is turning out to be quite unusual with lots of new sledders and one of the biggest areas that can absorb riders being closed (NB and parry sound) Our area in the blue mountains is completely overwhelmed with traffic. The clubs can’t keep up and the trails suffer terribly. Ms
  21. Ran that section a week ago before the Tuesday storm. It was safe . Might be slushy now with the weight of new snow. ms
  22. Looking for someone to give me an idea of how much snow is up there, and what general trail conditions are like. Trails are marked green but have heard people mention that there is not a lot of snow this year. Also, anyone run the trails from Moonlight Beach out to Long lake and Panache? Good coverage or poor? Thanks MS
  23. Anyone do a run in the area between the B110 railine from Chatsworth via Tara, towards Saugeen shores. How are the trails - any wet holes to worry about. Thanks MS
  24. These are big government or quasi government agencies we are dealing with. OPG, MNR, CP, GRCA. To let the clubs individually fend for themselves is a lot of work for the volunteers. You would think the OFSC management coupled with tourism Ontario, obviously with local club guidance - could bring some clout to the table. As the previous comment - would love to know how FCMQ handles things in their province. They have a very smooth running machine. (must be the result of our transfer payments at work). You would think this stuff would be tackled way back in the summer or early fall. It all seems to surface at the start of the season hurting the trail network from getting going. MS
  25. I have the power mad sentinel hand guards, and their gauntlets work around the hand guards really well. Pro- handbars are open enabling you to take your hands on and off easily. There is no fishing the hand through a soft limp gauntlet. con- bulky and not easy to store on a trip. Once they are on its easier to leave them ms
