    Over half gone now.

Too bad. We are good here. 3 hours to clean driveway and walks last night. I'm told the groomer up here is going to give packing a try today and will  see how it goes. Hopefully I'll have to get the gates across the road opened up for him.

Just went for a crap. Same as last time snow first then rain for 6 to 8 hours now plus 3C Friday overnight.  🤬

Darn, that might spoil beating your 75 km. on private land in 2023.

A close friend of mine owned a multi generation mid sized transport compamy and 25 years or more ago Petro Canada approached him wanting to do an oil testing program. At the time the heavy haul fleet with loaded weights in the 123,000 - 139,500 lb. range operated all over Ontario and in Quebec and Michigan.

When the testing started the trucks were on a 15,000 km. change interval. Petro Canada supplied the 15W40 non synthetic oil for the cross section of trucks they were testing and took samples for testing at different periods and were there to take samples at oil change time. Those samples were tested and my friend received copies of all the test results. If engines in the participating trucks were torn down for any reason, Petro Canada inspected the engine parts involved. Petro even had at least one high mileage engine that hadn't failed torn down for inspection.

Over the years of testing the results were so encouraging that the change intervals were extended on trucks and the last I remember the change intervals for the whole fleet were at 40,000 km.

There was never any pre mature oil related failures on the sampled engines that I remember. They used good name brand filters but I don't remember if they did filter changes midway therough the change intervals or not.

I'm pretty certain that there are fleets out there presently operating on 50,000 + km. oil change intervals but those are not likely heavy haul.

They (Yamaha) dont care. They just need to get you through the warranty period. Then they can wash their hands of you. Just like Toyota and the 10,000 mile (mile) oil changes... No thank you Toyota. Ski

You are entitled to your opinion. Others may not agree with it.

I believe the oil filter interval on the Apexes was every 20,000kms after the initial oil change after break in.

You are correct Ransomair. I just checked my manual for the 1049 engine and that's exactly what it states. While I prefer not to adhere to that schedule I don't believe for a minute that Yamaha would put that in print if they weren't confident in that schedule.

What will price of gas be if the canyon loop opens after sitting a month with no snow?

I think I'll just think about getting snow rather than the price of fuel.

That might not be totally indicative of what ice conditions are in the region.

If you look closely you would see the line where the open water starts just beyond the docks.

    basically none

I saw a pic on F/B this morning of 4 wolves out on Lake Mesomikenda just west of Gogama. The ice looked shiny with only a few small areas of snow on it.

My mennonite neighbour across the road planted wheat on November 13th. Although the field is not fully green, the wheat is visibly looking at it from in our house 300 feet away.

A buddy just texted me he's heading there Mon am. Should be interesting what he says

The trails that were open up in the mountains and had been coloured yellow are now showing green.

    Have not looked at Newfoundland.

Any good reports from that way?

The most snow is in the northwestern part of the island. That is where the City of Cornerbrook is and they only have 8" of snow according to the snow accumulation map on Windy.com

no one has commented on Ontario permits sales for this season….ya know the number is out there, just not openly shared that I’m aware of.

The early regular permit sales were in the 62,000 area I believe plus classics and gift cards. A good source told me that to the end of November sales were down quite a bit from last year but no number mentioned.

PLC     Has your club remained a Club or has it become a chapter?  Bridgeport became a chapter , l understand why they went in this direction  for  admin purposes . However any equipment needed to set up the trails and maintain them all comes from the volunteers Bridgeport owns nothing.  I had no problem  with this arrangement when the riding season was more than a few weeks .Now starting too feel less generous . I consider you a expert in this area , any thoughts . Merry Christmas .

Our club is apparently starting into the process of becoming a chapter for exactly the reason you mentioned. The OFSC in their wisdom?? has chosen to download more and more paperwork responsibilities onto the clubs at a time when it is already hard to retain volunteers. The club will be getting rid of any assets left over from the loss of the clubhouse and will no longer be incorporated. If anyone needs commercial kitchen equipment, we have it for sale.

Their are polesaws etc. still available for the local clubs' use that are kept at Sauders in Wallenstein. Its basically equipment that the GTSA had before it folded. I understand that some of the clubs in other areas of the District have already been renting whatever they need for trail install from local sources. I'm lead to believe that if executed properly many times these costs can be funded through the District.

    Merry Christmas to you coldfinger.

The south is muddy. Can't finish trail set up until we get a good frost . We need to use the tractor to clear  all the dead ash blow downs . Difficult planning a day to get out with this mild weather and all the Christmas festivities . Not fun operating a chainsaw hung over .

No hurry by the look of the forecast. We finished up St. Clements trail set up on Wednesday morning when the ground was stiff and only have some plowing that needs levelling but that's another story. We don't have a lot of bush on our trails so blowdowns weren't an issue but Brad did a lot of brushing along the way as the trails were being set up.

Sucks having something you can’t count on using. Had a boat before.
Kept it at wild wood reservioir in st Mary’s. Then reservioir would sometimes go dry in July and that be end of boating season there too. Cleaning all alagae off gel coat sucks too.
Our waters aren’t clean in southern Ontario. Boat was more work then sleds for amount I used it too. Maybe new aluminium’s would be easier to pressure wash stuff off. I seen wild bill using some type of acid at his shop to get crap off bottom of boats.
Sled can usually blast it thru some powder at end of season and it cleans itself 😎. Not much work involved.
I remember a bad winter in 1995 and 1999 ring a bell too. Only got a few weekends in. Even got a thunder storm in north bay around that time too and it poured so much trails closed over night. That was it for sesson in middle of Feb. I am use to this with sleds. Just seems it’s been 2020 and 2021 was last good season we had. Since then it’s been crappy no doubt.

You were keeping your boat in a reservoir created by damming a river in farm country. What did you expect? Our great lakes are reasonably clean and our inland lakes are typically very clean. If you had power washed the bottom with a strong power washer as soon as you pulled the boat from the water it wouldn't have been nearly as tough to get the crap off.  You can't let the scum dry on and expect it to come off easily. Better yet, if you aren't using it often, as you mentioned, trailer it from home and wipe the hull down when you take it out of the water. Not rocket science.
