Don't forget these were the same guys that whined for years about the 'doo RV motors using a primer for starting...
Those of us that had them knew the drill & could start them in our sleep.

I seem to recall one situation quite a while ago where someone offered to be a groomer operator for a club. It turned out that there wasn't any trail access from his home so he would take the groomer home at the end of a run and park it in his yard until the next day. Basically he was creating a personal groomed trail from his home to the actual trail. I think those are "the old days" and not something we really see happening anymore but there is still the perceptions of permit buyers to deal with. I can't count the number of times I was doing trail patrol and people believed I was supplied with a sled and fuel to do it.
Exactly.
There are some people that can't believe that those of us that volunteer our labour are doing it for free. When I've made stuff for the club, the material is ordered on a district PO & my time in the shop. I guess I could bill them for the MIG gas & wire

I have never even asked or received my expenses not even for travel hotels or convention. That being said I do not depend on an hourly wage for my living and doing this is my way of giving back to the sport.
I strongly dis agree with this as grooming funding comes from the district not the club and I have known many great club presidents that have done a great job of grooming
I know our president has told us we can put in for mileage and or gas for our saws, ATVs/UTVs. I'm going to submit a bill for the gas I used trimming some trees back on a ride or what I used in my Ranger putting some new signs up? I can't be bothered like I said. Just my part in helping out.
Very true Bill. That being said I think the OFSC is looking @ the optics of this.
I won't elaborate but I know of (in the past) where members of the executive and/or groomers intentions were less that honourable. More or less a 'what's in it for me attitude?'

If only we could pay a larger carbon tax we could get to be sledding in may.
Finally, someone who sees the bright side of paying more taxes LOL

Woke up to another 3-4 on the deck this morning.
I was not expecting that.
A slight dusting on the deck yesterday here.

I ordered same sled and going to see if the stock windshield and side deflectors suit my needs first before I change anything.
ordered the hand guard mirrors, like UTSD, I’m not looking to see much, just if there is a trailing sled.... if the person that’s suppose to be there, is still there or if I’m holding someone else up.That's about all I notice anyways w/ the w/s mirrors that I use up north. Down south w/ a lower w/s, I have the little mirrors on my Powermadd handguards.

It not the audit it's the uneducated public perception.
There I fixed it.

We had an account at a local gas station for groomer fuel. At one time there were people making accusations that club members were filling their personal vehicles at the expense of the club. There have been people that believed the club supplied sleds and fuel for those doing trail patrol and were upset about that saying where do they sign up.
I'm sure all clubs have had to deal w/ this nonsense. I know things have improved a lot since my 1st stint in the accountability.
I've been told I could put in for mileage for my jobs. I can't be bothered. Drive from Apsley up to Martins Mill to install the bollards (5 minutes work) and home? I think that's a bot chintzy, but then that's just me.

Depends if you are an incorporated club or a non incorporated chapter . Chapter is an informal committee instead of having an executive, this to my knowledge would relieve you from any perceived conflict as long as you were not a representative on the district board. and in that case you just remove yourself from discussion and any voting on grooming wages.
That's an excellent description of the situation that I'm aware of.

Earlier in the other discussion it was mentioned that the Comfirt Inn's lot is a bit confined for rig parking.
I think this winter was an aberration. Normally sledders are riding rather than driving to Kap'.

On the other hand I have been around executive members that could be @ best described as (& I'm being charitable here) chair warmers. I'll just leave it @ that.

@revrndI must carry way too much stuff for me to get away with that 21l bag, on a 5 day trip. Our packing list originated close to 20 years ago, when all kinds of things would go wrong. I am trying to remove some spare items, "but you never know" when you need a dry pair of socks! My 5 day saddle bag is always stuffed.
Oh I have saddle bags too. The SR21 is more for sled stuff. I've winnowed down the clothing over the years as it was all nicely packed @ the start of the trip...

Last full day on the snow. Arrived in Elk Lake around 5. 246 klicks. TOP C was good to the A107C intersection. A107C was OK to Gowganda. It was pretty rough the rest of the way to Elk Lake.
Going by signage on Mattagami Lake, Minakwa Lodge is the gas stop there, no longer the FN.
Snow @ T-C-P
TOP C east of Mattagami Lake

@Gadgetman In the 1st pic you can see @Re:Leaf 's Blizzard w/ the stacked accessories. The 2nd pic is mine w/ the SR21 bag. It's fine for carrying gear for a multi-day trip. However for daytrips, it's a bit bulky.

Paid by district, but like I said some is paid and a lot is volunteer
No old boys club here, we openly invite anybody to our meetings.
Have not seen a line up at the door yet, some nights hardly have enough to hold a meeting.
I would gladly give up my position and sit and watch for trails to go green, especially if accused of lining my pockets
I'm not insinuating that any members here that are on club boards are lining their pockets. I've had 2 stints on the Paudash board, back in the 80s/90s & more recently 6 years & have stepped back.
A person would have to be deaf to not hear the chatter about the sport while out & about. Trust me I've heard some pretty ridiculous comments from non-sledders (and ill-informed sledders) that have no idea of how things are run. This is how the 'over the fence' BS gets spread.
I know there have been some changes in the past year that pretty much eliminates most board positions @ the club level. If I'm wrong would someone correct me?

As I'm moving to BRP, I'm puzzled why the need for the fabricated pieces on the LinQ to only lift off the tunnel?
W/ the 129" tunnel, only 1 accessory can be mounted (if you don't want to stack a bag on top of the larger gas caddy).
W/ 137" tunnels, there is no need to do this.

So does this include trail building type work, dozer excavator etc.. as a conflict
I’m currently VP for our club,
Clubs been using my equipment for years, some paid some volunteer
Is the club or district paying for the work?
I get the feeling that some of you are upset about this. Try looking @ it another way. For years the average (read uninformed) snowmobiler has felt that the bureaucracy of the OFSC is an old boys club/business done behind closed doors/people lining their pockets operation...
When these same people hear that certain executive members are getting paid (w/o knowing why) that's when the rumours arise.

A little improvement tonight. W/ the dual accessory adapter installed, only the small gas caddy would fit in the forward position. A spacer is necessary to carry the 'short' bag in the forward position...

Would pay rates not be decided at a separate Trails Committee meeting? Trails Committee board may be a different set of delegates, no?
My terminology may be incorrect. I was meaning that these decisions are made at the district level, not the club.

The president of the club should be a sitting member of the district board.
I'm pretty sure that is the case.

Looks like someone that is new on the ofsc is going by the book. He said that it could be a conflict. The pres can say how much they get paid and how much they can groom. I agree with Nutter that when the dist is desiding on pay on payed posetions that the pres of the club has no vote. So the Dist sets the pay amount and the club groomer cordinator organizes the grooming. so what is the problem
That is pretty much the case now. That being said the club presidents would likely be @ district meetings where pay rates are discussed.

OK, you take HH out of the equation, would it be possible to make it up to Chapleau from the Soo w/ a 4S?
This might get the ball rolling on TOP F being reopened north of Chapleau. Otherwise, D'ville & Wawa are on the far end of D15. You might get people staging in Wawa (that's if the US riders come back), but not too many folks are going to ride down from Hearst, stay the night & turn around to run the same trail back.
I guess I can consider myself lucky to ridden thru there. Missinabie and M'wadge are 2 other places I've ridden thru in the past that are more or less off the grid nowadays.
