Ministry of Tourism Advertisement

This ad was in the latest issue of Snow Goer Canada. I wonder how much assistance if any the MoT provides to the OFSC in dealing w/ the MTO, MOE & MNR?

They advertise the worlds largest interconnected network of trails. Well TOP D & F in the D'ville area is in jeopardy due to volunteer burnout. TOP C the main route between Sudbury & Timmins requires reroutes north & south of Shining Tree due to logging. One of the alternatives in that area (L143) is closed due to logging as well.

It's great to do loops when up north, but close a section here or there & basically all you can do are out & back day trips from 1 location.

The short answer - no help. We have been getting the tourism funding, $3MM last three years, but there is no assistance as far as trail sustainabilty from a volunteer or local government standpoint. We can't use funds for groomers or grooming costs. The MOT has indicated that they want us to focus expenditures on tourism related items (advertising, signage, etc rather than infrastructure) in the next round of funding, They do not understand our need for dollars related to trail sustainability. They have given little assistance towards grooming costs. Seperately, they did give us $400,000 towards groomer replacement this season, but with over 300 groomers in the provicne, and new units costing $200,000, it doesn't go far.
