smokeater466
My brother got a bill today for a fire department response for my friend (who was borrowing my brothers sled). He flipped the machine near Gooderham on a rural road. He needed to be transported to Hospital by ambulance as he was unconsious and suffered a siezure. They responded three fire department vehicles for a personal injury accident and charged for three hours a piece. As a firefighter I know that smaller municipalities have limited budgets and are allowed recoup costs for accidents and vehicle fires on provincial highways. They normally bill the insurance company. As there was limited damge to the sled and we fixed it ourselves we made no insurance claim. My family has paid taxes up there since before the 1920's. If it had happened on private property or on the trail I doubt they would have charged. What do you get for your taxes that pay to support fire protection in the first place? I will keep you all updated as to my progress on getting them to recind the fee.
