slomo
Had a pretty good ride in this area last year, and although apprehensive about conditions due to warm and rain in southern Ontario, things turned out well. (thanks dweese) Ms. slomo had seen the pictures last year and wanted to follow the route along the E trail to Sharbot Lake, up to Snow Road club house and a few back trails south to the E and back to Perth. The day started out well, with freshly groomed trail west of Lanark Road, behind the Aquarius and Colonial Motels. We met a trail patrol STOP lady just before the club house and had a chat. Apparently both groomers in the area had broken down, so most ot the back trails hadn't been groomed. Most of the main trails had at least one pass in the area. Traffic was very light. A coffee at the Snow Road club house and off. We stuck mainly to the main trails stooging around as tough two up riding on back trails, passed through Sharbot Lake again and headed toward Kaladar. Turned around right about where the trail map indicates yellow. Overcast most of the day, so a burst of sunlight was a bonus toward the end of the day. Unless there is a horrible melt or rain in the next couple of weeks, this area shows potential for good spring condition sledding. Relatively little road running. I would stay west of Perth. Attempted the trail heading east toward Smith Falls later in the day, but pretty rough, unless groomed once the machines get repaired.
