  1. Just got back, I arrived Monday and returned Friday, riding tuesday to thursday.

     

    On tuesday morning the trails were rough heading North, on the return the A trail was groomed.....the rest of the week all the trails were great, the only rough area being the river (A trail) as the groomer doesn't run it.....to say bumpy would be an understatement 

     

    Tuesday run to Larder Lake and ate at the Muddy Moose.......great food.

    Wednesday  run to Elk Lake Eco Centre for Lunch then to Kirland Lake and back

    Thursday run to Temagami Inn for lunch.,.....then back up to the L190 and down the A107Q (lake run) 

     

    The A107Q is a must ride....the views running on the lake were spectacular.....there were some soft areas, but nothing to be of great concern.

     

    Stayed at the Econo Inn,.....very clean and you could walk into Alis Restaurant without going outside.    Right on the trails and Esso across the road.

     

    Snow was deep if you missed a turn

     

    The ambulance didn't see the sign saying "Snowmobile Trail.....Your GPS is wrong.....Do not Enter"   There was 12 of us....we managed to dig and push it back about 3 meters before finding out they had a tow truck coming......"See ya"

  2. A large group of us have rooms booked in the French River area for next week.   

     

    Our concern is that the trails in that area will not survive the warm temperatures predicted for this Sunday.   We can cancel up to tomorrow without being charged for the rooms.

     

    Do you think the base is good enough in the French River area to withstand the warm weather for a day?

  3. Rode from Sauble Beach up to Ferndale today.    I was impressed by the amount of snow on the trails, although there were icy sections and the trails through the wood lots were very bumpy......my kidneys dropped 2 inches I'm sure..

     

    Stopped at Skinners Bluff for the obligated season photo.....lol

    yes that’s the place, I’m 

    looking to spend a couple days in the Sudbury area 

     

    must haves:

    restaurant and licensed 

    close to trail access 

    clean but not high end

     

  5. Rode from Kincardine to Wiarton, around the bay down to Shallow Lake and home via Port Elgin, 310kms.  I was really amazed today on how good the trails held up after the rain and mild temps the last couple days.  

     

    There were a couple wet spots,  and a couple fields that were thin at the crest of the hills, but very far and few between.    Good solid base, with fresh snow on top.

     

    Caught a ski running the side of the road and got pulled into the ditch.....kept going ok until I couldn't get out and was heading for water and a right turn because of the intersection.   Made it through the water.....pin it kept ringing in my head.....navigated the sharp turn to the right......got out of the water but still in the ditch......right ski hooked a sapling and stopped me dead.    Broke off my right mirror and side deflector.

     

    Surveyed what needed to be done to get myself out and just started digging out the front end when 2 gents on Polaris's stopped to help.     They helped me point the sled in the right direction and I was able to climb out from there.      Thanked them.....but never got names.

     

    If you 2 guys are reading this....thanks again.

Although I believe Snow Trackers do lighten the steering I have read on line and have spoken to others in the industry(will not name them), that have cautioned me to stay away from them as I am an aggressive rider.   I have no actually experience or know anyone that uses them, only passing along what I've discovered.

     

    -gravel running....you will get stones lodged in them

    -hit something solid hard enough.....they will deform and cannot be straightened without affecting the metal's integrity 

    -hitting a stone, frozen rut, or catch a tree root the wrong way will rip the bar from your hands and there have been reports of a broken wrist

    -ride too aggressively you may suffer from push (understeer) then if they hook up it can toss you and the sled.

     

    You may not have experienced any of these symptoms.   I am not trying to dissuade anyone from using or purchasing them.....but I will not use them.

     

    I have ordered Bergstrom shims but I'm not expecting much.    New type of skis will be next year as I have already spent considerable money upgrading the sled at Accelerated Technologies and John did set up my sled.

     

    After next season I will determine if I purchase a new sled or not, if I do it will be based on:

    -will we continue to lose trails because of the actions of others

    -will the season continue to get shorter

    -it will need to be a non turbo 4 stroke that can run on regular gas as my 900 ACE can

    -suspension equal to what I presently have with the Enduro

    -upright riding position

    -and most important.....light steering

I'm sure you're well experienced with this type of maintenance , but do not overfill a sealed bearing.   1/3 is the recommended.   At slow speeds this is a none issue, but at high speed the bearing can overheat,  and seals can fail.   This is caused by the bearing balls pushing/sliding rather than turning/spinning.
