  1. I would say go North of Sudbury.

Warmer temps again next week which will make the water flow and start washing out sides of trails. It started happening last weekend when it was +6

Timmins, Kap? Did you see the thread where sledjunk is in Kap and looking for riders?

I have my eyes on a 2021 Polaris for sure. The new 650 I am sure will be a big hit for Polaris, the motor is very very strong and will surprise quite a few people and the fuel and oil economy will sway some buyers.

Is the 650 smooth below say 25mph? and also did they clean up the lines of the plastics? Not bashing, my friend has a 2016 600 and it is really fun to ride in the twisty's, compared to my big 1200. but i find it "unrefined?" i guess is the best way to describe it. Obviously being a 2 stroke I expected it to idle a bit rougher than a 4st. but i also find his plastics kind of jagged looking.

  3. Our groomer for the trails by me was broke down last weekend for a week. I only knew because I posted on our club fb page that I think I lost a kidney on the rail bed. A few others complained as well. All trails still green which is fine, but I agree that a heads up would be nice. I invited a few friends to ride on Monday, I pre warned then because I went on Sunday and almost lost a filling. The way back we took a 47km Detour to avoid the rail bed that was horrible.

Again, a simple heads up would've been nice.

Two days with son in Sudbury area. Staying at the Valley Inn. Feel bad for moonlight and Chateau Guay owners - cut off from trails, so we're trying out Azilda lodging.

Motel owners are nice. Property is well kept.

We were just saying the same when in town today, looked like one group of 5-6 sleds at the chateau. It is usually jammed full this time of year.  Seen a Couple at the Norvic. Sad to see the chateau so empty this winter.

  5. No hot tub but they have a pool, Sturgeon Falls. WN400 Trail to the back of the hotel. Once on the D trail (raildbed) you can head either direction. Also, this Saturday there is a Fish Fry in Field Ontario for the West Nippising club, head west on D and you will run right into it. Gas in Sturgeon, or River Valley headed toward Sudbury.

  6. My house to Kates, I guess there closed on Sunday? Wtf?? Oh well, after my last experience I think it was an omen.. went to ESSO in Warren for a coffee and peperoni stick. ( glad I had a good breakfast) 102 miles. Got to ride my favorite trail, D104 so that made the trip worth it.

  7. I haven't been up there, but I can tell you the weather up here has been $hit two weekends in a row. Yesterday was -1. Today 0 +1 with mix of wet snow and drizzle. Trails are soft, and believe it or not a lot of swampy areas are NOT frozen. A trail that we were  working on yesterday, has 2 holes in it today from water running under the snow.

I'm thinking it's yellow because of swamp/ water crossings.

On a positive note, weather is supposed to get cold mid week, with snow. So the groomers will be able to have something to work with.

  8. Finally rode D trail from the house to rail bed, the last section of closed trail for our club. My neighbor and I cut on the way up, met up with another club member, and finally... we were able to cut in front, while the groomer followed us down!!

The OFSC did not change the wording. They did come back and say you (the club and potentially the directors) have been incurring huge risks and potential liability with the agreements you have been signing. If you want to protect yourselves we recommend different liability and indemnity clauses that will limit your exposure to the world of snowmobiling. (Not everybody, all the time). The option to get outside insurance to help offset the exposure was even provided. (Side Note: that insurance is very expensive and is very limited in terms of policy limits). The OFSC can not and will not put its clubs and volunteers at unnecessary risk but they do respect the clubs right to make their own decisions. The club, rightfully so, chose to negotiate more acceptable terms (from their perspective). Those negotiations are on going. And that is where we are today.

It sounds like, for years clubs were exposed to this risk when signing with bigger companies and municipalities, and nobody caught on until the incident with CP. quite the "aha" moment.

I do not blame anyone, but talk about bad timing, and no information or reason given until everyone is up in arms and pissed, then it still ended up being people on social media that brought this all to the forefront.

With no information, comes conspiracies and speculation..

    • This is what i believe, and pretty much mirrors what Big Pete said in his post:
Kimberley Melbourne_ZvGTxrlsmm.png Any landowner with a land use permission on the
standard 1 page agreement produced by OFSC will have no issues with
insurance. Landowners are covered during the snowmobile season for any

snowmobile trail related issues whether it is trees falling,
snowmobilers getting hurt, trespassers on the trail getting hurt,
grooming, volunteers doing maintenance, or anything that involves the
trail on their land. OFSC has been around for 50 years and there has
never been a landowner successfully sued. The OFSC looks after the
investigation, lawyers fees, court costs, and payout of lawsuit. The
landlord is completely covered for any snowmobile accident during the
snowmobile season. The problem this year is from corporations that do
not use the standard agreement and have multi page agreements with many
legal clauses including an indemnity clause which puts all liability on
the snowmobile club for any reason, whether it is snowmobile related or
not. Also making it even more complicated is multi use trails and who
covers non snowmobilers. That is the legal wrangling that is going on

and when a group of lawyers are trying to work something out that is
complicated, the wheels turn very slowly. Kim Melbourne President of Eastern Ontario Snowmobile Club

    • Mike McCreight_ZvGTxrlsmm.png So, since you seem to have a handle on this Kim, why the change this year, why last minute, and why as people who were almost certain to be affected by the change coming from OFSC were we not informed?
      Hide or report this
      • Kimberley Melbourne_ZvGTxrlsmm.png Mike McCreight great question Mike. My understanding is that the OFSCs insurance company, while reviewing the wording of the non standard agreement, noticed the indemnidy "issue". Becasue the wording may put the not for profit snowmobile club at risk for liability if the corporate landowner negligently caused harm, the OFSC insurance stopped agreeing to deal with that special non standard coverage. I am not an insurance expert. As to why? I am not privy to when this was discovered.
I believe this was discovered late October after the court case with the railway.

  10. There is now a trail from Norvic Motel on Hwy 17 to D trail which leads up to the Rail bed on Kukagami side. It is Trail 81 which turns into D trail. Just have to cross the highway from motel, and follow the signs.

I have never stayed there, but heard it was clean, affordable and the owners are great people. There is a convenience store a couple km's away, and gas is about a 20 min return trip to Wahnapitae. No restaurant on site, but most places in town will deliver there.

Who cares if they changed insurance providers or not, bottom line is whomever the carrier is and the OFSC required a change ( and for good reason I might add), made the change, and did a crap job communicating it and getting it out there.

    +1

And most of the facts are in this thread. There is a lot of crap out there on social media, but i think a lot of it could have been avoided with a simple statement made from the powers that be.

  12. Heard there were too many people running out after the groomer to hit fresh trails. The trails did not have time to set up properly, so all the work making the trails nice was getting wasted, and created safety issues for the operators and people on the sleds.

  13. I believe there was a clause in the old Land use agreement, that had been in there for a long time, and made it possible for companies like CP, Hydro etc to sign off on it.

I think the OFSC insurer made them take that out, and have new LUP' s signed, which is where the problem lies currently.

so, some companies will not sign the new LUP without that clause, and the OFSC / Insurer will not put it back in because of what happened with CP. and how it could leave clubs and volunteers on the Hook if they got sued.

So, in a way, the OFSC statement is correct. The insurance hasn't changed, but they had to change the LUP so Insurance would cover the liability, and not clubs or its members. And what they are calling the "review process" stemmed from the court case with CP.

  14. All the information i was able to gather, is just what people posted on the net. No idea if it is all true, nor do i have any insider type information.

     - From what i have read: a snowmobile was struck by a train on CP property, that person died. It went to court, CP was able to wash there hands of it because of a clause the OFSC / insurer had in there previous land use agreement. After the court proceedings, the Insurer / OFSC removed that section of wording. CP now refuses to sign the new one because that clause was removed, leaving them open for liability.

I think the old wording, left the OFSC clubs and Volunteers at risk of some liability.

As far as i know, the court case finished in October, which is the reason for the crappy timing and scrambling to get new agreements in place with all land owners and Municipalities..
