Typically I trade in every 4 to 5 years. The longest I have ever kept one was 6 years and that was because the km's were below my 4 to 5 year typical. I always buy instead of lease and when I trade in it has a good residual value. Typically there has been a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty and a 5 year power train warranty. I want confidence that when I turn the key it's going to start and get me where I want to go.

    3 year or 60,000km warranty

5 yr or 100,000km powertrain warranty

60,000km is 12 to 14 months for me.

Vehicle manufacturers have a good idea when items will fail.

  2. The carnage will be big this year.

Lots of extra EI money floating around.

Lots of expensive old sleds and people trying to get there money’s worth.

And likely a lot of no trail pass purchasers running with no insurance.

Have you also noticed GM along with everyone else, has moved to a 5 year, 100,000km powertrain warranty now, from there 5 year 160,000km one....Gotta love it..

The average buyer will run out of time before the Km for warranty.

they expect 20,000kms/yr as max. For most drivers.

Another interesting thing about the 3.0L D Max, is the belt driven oil pump. It runs off the back of the crankshaft,  which GMC recommends a service interval of 150,000 miles.  Of course the tranny, and transfer case need to be pulled, in order to service that. Interesting,  since the fuel pump and camshafts are chain driven..

They will change out the belt when they are changing the the tranny at 120,000km for you.

So far love the new 3.0L DMAX. Trailered to Haliburton forest and back. Not on the highway but a lot of hills & lower speeds. Averaged 12.4L. Can't wait to see what it is like on the highway. Tows awesome. Pulls up hills with out the engine revving over 4 grand like the 5.3L.

    What’s your regular fuel consumption?

And what trailer were you towing?

  6. A friend had his gm 1500 stolen from Home depot in Burlington.  Cops took report.  Told him likely on reserve.

He looked around on the reserve and there was a field where lots of trucks were dumped.  He found his truck and made arrangements to get it back.  Insurance wrote it off due to parts stripped.

He bought it back and being mechanic put parts on and drove it again.

Cops would not go on reserve to get it even after he found it there.

I could see someone dumping the trailer on the reserve to pass blame on the Natives. Its a possibility.

There must be a field somewhere full of stolen trailers and equipment. Only a mater of time before this crew is caught.

    Jerry

    Really?  Dumping the trailer?

Its well known when trucks get stolen many end upon the reserve stripped.  Cops won’t go there to investigate.

I'm guessing most ice roads are built to get supplies in to camp for the year.  Gas, lumber, food, etc... and not to let people come and go.

Ice roads are vital supply links.  Just wait in Spring when. The native communities are crying that they do not have lumber or fuel.

Oh wait in that case the politicians will be all tripping over themselves to be the one to announce the cargo flights to help the communities.

  9. There was a couple comments about the number of deaths earlier.

What no politicians talk about is the difference in the anticipated death rate that occurs daily and the death rate during Covid?

The Province / Country / City / hospitals expect “X” number of people to pass away every day.  How many people above this number are passing away?

How far above the natural mortality rate are we?

Or are we actually above the normal mortality rate?

And earlier on in all of this Covid talk one of the Medical associations was saying that to be on the safe side they were classifying any death where Covid was present or appeared to be present a Covid death.  So a massive heart attack victim with a fever was a Covid death while heart attack killed them.

    where are the true numbers?

  10. So to be clear we can get on a plane and fly to Jamaica, Cuba or Mexico for a party filled week but we cannot drive and snowmobile as we are putting to many people at risk?

Or we still allow air travel from hot zones and allow cases of Covid into the country regularly?

Something is wrong in this country and it begins with our Political leaders.

I think they where trying to get the car off the bridge, interior was burnt out of it.

I'll try to find the recovery video.

The recovery was quite simple actually.

The tied the front wheel to the bridge to get it straight the just winched it off the bridge and towed it down the rail line.

Probably not that difficult to do when you do that stuff every day.  Have the proper setup to do job. And spend a little time thinking about it.

  12. Has anyone else had the issue with new LED lights on trailer not drawing enough to be recognized by their tow vehicle?

I have to either splice a resistor into my trailer wires or order an adaptor with a resistor to give me full tail lights. Right now my taillights are not working.

My Adaptor arrives by Dec 18.

I agree on grey. I store my sled in the trailer over the summer & didn't want the heat that black would attract in the summer or white for visibility reasons in the snow.

WHen it’s parked on side of road it’s normally so full of dirt it’s grey anyhow.

i am going to add some reflective tape on the rear.

That and a big Arctic Cat theft deterent sticker in back middle of door!!
