  1. Have to weigh in here.....nobody knows what the hell he's talking about.

Last time we heard an announcement like this, about the town of Kapuskasing contributing $3000 to snowmobiling, we saw one large FRANCOPHONE sign go up on the trail by the mill.

Trust me: neither the clubs nor the Corridor know anything about this, but you will likely see more Francophone signage......but whether it complies with OFSC guidelines or not, remains to be seen.

    IMO, this is purely political.

I'm out of sledding effective today. It's been a great winter, but I'm getting too old for this sport.

Slomo is buying my 550 Polaris as a retirement present for his wife. He's overlooking the questionable fuel economy, and wants to get back to a good old two stroke machine.

Nunz will be picking up my 1200 Ski-Doo on the weekend. Age has finally caught up with him, I guess. No more two strokes in his future.

Sledjunk has finally capitulated and made the move to Cat. He'll be picking up my ZR9000 on his way home from Cochrane.

I never thought I'd say it, but I'm sick of sledding, and will probably be going south next winter.

Mark this date on your calendar.

Wow. I did not see that coming.

  3. I don't see a RIDE check point everytime I'm out on the roads. I certainly don't expect to see O.P.P. everytime I'm on the trails. I think you're blowing things out of proportion but respect your right to express your opinion.

Look forward to hearing about all your negative trail side police experiences as the season progresses.

  4. If you are not drinking and riding, what's the problem? I can think of a few spots on our trails in the Northern Corridor where such checks would be welcomed.

Loves me my hot buttered rums but only aprés sledding.

  5. There are still loads of signs, bridges and other infrastructure all over D16. Different circumstances, but no one inspected any of it when it disappeared.

And as it happens, some of the adopted clubs from the old D16 are trying to resurrect some of those old trails. Funny how it all works out sometimes.

  6. Visitors to our District 15 can always contact the Northern Corridor office DIRECTLY to find out the status of ANY trail within the district. Remember telephones?? Yes, we have a real live person in our office who would love to chat about the status (present AND future) of our trails.  Her responsibility is to upgrade the STATUS of trails, as per in the information provided to her from the clubs...not plot them onto, or remove them from the ITG. If a trail is indicating RED for UNAVAILABLE, it's very simple: don't go.

Northern Corridor TELEPHONE (TOLL FREE!!) : 1-877-287-2457

    E-mail: corridor@nt.net

    WEBSITE: www.northerncorridor.ca

As for the A103 (Abitibi Canyon Loop), now that the TOP A trail has connected, volunteers from both Arctic Riders SRF Fauquier and Polar Bear Riders are working hard to get both sides of the trail ready to open. I encourage you to LIKE their pages (or send a Friend request) on Facebook so you can stay up-to-date on their efforts.

And that concludes my public service message for today. Happy trails, y'all.

  7. You think they would have a plain to keep a good old groomer from another club to keep key tourist trails open

Well, the District did send an older groomer from Hornepayne to Longlac (amalgamated with Geraldton to become the "Greenstone Snowmobile Club") to help that struggling club get back on it's feet.  Seems to me there was (is) a lengthy thread in this forum about re-connecting the old District 16 clubs. It's ironic that I have yet to read a thread about staying connected with Quebec.

These kinds of decision are not fly by night....as ANYONE who is involved in a club/district and the OFSC will appreciate. BUT I encourage everyone who is disappointed or who disagrees with the District's decision to contact them and let them know.

  8. Just read that on their site! Can, or do I ask why the district has to reduce the groomer fleet?

As part of the OFSC's More on the Snow initiative, new groomers are being purchased for every district. In return, each district is required to retire one old groomer. This particular trail sees the least amount of traffic, is the last to open in the district, and that particular groomer has racked up a lot repair costs.
