In my opinion the Michelin LTX was the best tire I have ever had on a truck for overall use, was great in snow, quiet, ran well over 100,000 kms on my old ecoboost (which were hard on tires) and were smooth on the highway.

Only thing I didn't like is they don't have that aggressive look. Which the BFG's do.

    I'll second that.  Great tire!!!

  2. Anyone on here ride Hearst to Greenstone this past weekend?  If so how was it?  Worth the trip next week?  Also how was Kap to Hearst?

  3. I'm not very impressed with the 2025 release.  4 strokes get a new brake.  Expedition gets new paint.  The electric offerings were extended to the Expedition, but with no driveline improvements.which make the offering useless to 99% of the market.  Nothing else.  There is very little in this release for anyone, but the 2 stroke crowd.

  4. No real knowledge on current conditions.  I can tell you this.  Haliburton Lake has some currents in it and is typically one of the later lakes to be safe.  I cut holes in Skootamattta Lake yesterday.  Its is one of the earlier lakes to freeze and is a similar distance north with similar weather patterns.  We have 7" in the area the stake line runs.  Typically for 3rd week of February that would be well over 16".  I've seen over 24" some years.  So no good data, but my guess is the later lakes to freeze like Muskoka, Haliburton, Chandos, Mazinaw etc may not get there this year.  Could be wrong, but thats my 2 cents.  If in doubt, don't go or go check yourself before crossing.  Not worth the risk.  Hopefully someone who is local and on that lake can give you some better info.

After replacing a bunch of bent studs and a brand new set of carbides from my week in quebec, I am not in the right frame of mind to ride sh-tty trails any time soon.

My Lynx can stay parked if thats all that there is to ride.

What part of the province were you riding?

  6. They posted a video yesterday mid morning.  Trail rock hard.  Some bare ground but overall, the base survived.  Most lakes completely flooded.  Open for atving.  Not sledding again until they get a couple inches of new snow.  I'm not there so stand to be corrected, but thats what the video showed.  She was out traveling on the atv.  Sounds like they missed the rain.

Lake Huron is wide open at Goderich. The only ice is what was pushed up on the beach. There is still 2 Algoma ships hauling salt to destinations between Detroit and Chicago.

So we can get back into lake effect again in the coming weeks with cold air from the north settling back in.  Bring it on.

  8. The predictions look decent.  My guess is the expedition and skandic go to the g5 chassis this year on doos end.  Would be nice to see them move smart shocks into other models (grand touring, enduro, etc.).  Not saying they will, but would be nice to see.  I also question if we will see electric versions to respond to Taiga from any or all 3 manufacturers.  Is a 4 stroke coming for the Catalyst, or are they just gonna run 2 strokes and start into the electric versions in that chassis?

  9. No need for a permit on the lake.  You do need everything else though (proof of insurance, ownership, drivers license, up to date val tag, etc.)  I'd avoid the stake line.  It's a grey area if you meet the cops.  Not likely to get fined for permits on it, but always a chance (whether the cop is right or not).  Cross it at 90 degrees and there shouldn't be anything to argue over.

  10. Lets go one step further.  It's a combine traveling up the road turning left.  He's probably running up the shoulder due to his width.  But he's not stopped and is traveling the road.  Not saying I'm right.  But it makes for an interesting argument.  If it were a motorcycle how is it interpreted?  Too many drivers these days don't slow down when overtaking smaller and / or slower vehicles.  Glad no one was hurt.  Definitely take your time and look behind you before crossing or turning left on a road.

Really? Road traffic has right of way. If that was a car, even if they signaled to come out from the shoulder, they have to enter the roadway safely, with enough distance to get in to the traffic lane, and up to speed safely with the flow of traffic, without impeding it, or causing any issues. Being a snowmobile in this situation, it is even more on the snowmobile. The road traffic always has the right of way. Ski

The sleds were traveling the roadway.  Then turned left.  They weren't crossing from ditch to ditch.  If it were a car turning left instead of a sled and the truck hit the car the truck would be at fault.  Albeit the snowmobile didn't signal his intentions which does move fault to the sled some.  What if it were a bike instead of a sled?
