I absolutely cannot imagine financing toys. :icon_gunhead:.  Thank the lord we're fortunate enough to buy outright. I just can't imagine financing them 1 bit...:headbang:..

Except at 0% - other than the 5 years - you're fool to give away that money.

You're better off keeping your cash and earning interest and using their money for free.

    It's the 5 years I wouldn't like.

My dealer asked for $500, no biggie.

They did ask what promotion you want for the spring order.

I chose the %.99 financing rate.

    That's $550 over 5 years.

    Hard to argue with that.

Might as well keep my money, gain interest on it and pay for the sled over 5 years.

Question is, is that for everyone, seems so? What if you are maybe not credit worthy?

BRP has always been back stopped by government so it's probably meaningless.

5 years financing on a snowmobile?

Dealers have to apply for warranty consideration.  Sometimes they are refused and either have to fight for it or bill customer for repair or eat the cost of repair.

And the factory gives the warranty parts to dealer but dealer does not make margin on these parts.  only makes money on the Labour on the warranty repair.   And warranty repair might be at a set rate for labour on a repair while labour might be higher if they run into an issue during the repair.

Its better for a dealer to do a customer billed job as they make money on parts and labour.

    And get paid on time!

What's even stranger is when your dealer has that strange obscure part.

They're still a few of them out there too.

    It's great.

Either way, kudo's to any dealer out there - it's a tough business in the best of times, we need each other.

IMO after sale service is the most important aspect of a business. Price stops being a concern as soon as there is an issue and it goes unresolved. That is when you wish you went to where the service is great and the price is a little higher. Today good service is a rare thing to find. It is not the norm and bad service the exeption, it is quite the opposite. Sad but true.

It also seems to me the best dealers for service are the ones who aren't afraid to fill their own shelves with parts and inventory - rather than waiting until a "purchase" is made and they order from the distribution centres.

Love being able to walk into a place and here "yeah, I got that, hold on" - instead of let me order, order, order.

Back in the day, dealers had much more in their own stores.

  6. Our first dealer ended their relationship with Polaris over forced units.

Long story short - dealer put his order in - Polaris said - nope - you're taking this many units - and these specific units on top of your order - dealer said nope - I'll take my order or nothing - nothing it was - end of relationship :)

I believe to be BRP these days - you have to have so many sq/ft - and highway side visual.

  7. Can't say I've had any real terrible experiences, maybe we're lucky?

    1. Quinlans - Polaris - they always treated our family tremendously, good pricing on new units, good value on trades, would drop anything to help us out. No longer in business.

    2. Jansenns - Polaris-  Went there after Quinlans closed up shop - one of the guys there worked at a marina on our lake, was a great guy - like Quinlans, always treated us well and were fair and good to deal with. Called Northgate now I think?

    3. Performance Recreation - Polaris - moved there after Jansenns - this one came to down to $ - they offered me a much better dollar on a trade in - so much so I could not refuse the deal. I'm not a real dollars and cents guy - but this one only made too much financial sense at the time. Top notch people in there for me. Still in business

    4. ATC - Cat - I bought my 2012 with a little over 100 miles on it from a kid that worked at a Cat dealership in Exeter. They are too far in the wrong direction for me to use regularly - so I picked it up - took it to ATC to get gone over, have some accessories put on - and we left for a trip. Super easy to deal with - did all warranty updates - treated me well. No longer in business

    5. Carlsons - Cat - been taking my Cat there for service since ATC shut the doors, always been good - work done on time - no bullshit - you get what you paid for - nothing done without you knowing and okaying it - I've been happy with them and have no complaints.

My folks use Rickwards for their Polaris needs - they are very happy there as well.

No nightmares for me to speak of, have called a few places for pricing every now and again - but that's about it.

  8. Great job as usual by everyone that keeps us all on the snow and going.

Challenging year to say the least - but like every other year, those of you doing the heavy lifting always seem to just get it done and we are a very lucky group who get to enjoy the fruits of those labors.

Stay safe everyone and have a great summer.

OHIP covers the hospital bills... which are likely the most significant if there's a serious injury.

If it's a catastrophic injury, the long terms costs and expenses far outweigh the initial - and most of that is through your SABS - subject to your limits and what coverages you purchased, fault etc. It's not that simple.

So a question for all the pro helmet people:

should our health system be burdened with and have to pay the medical expenses for a snowmobiler wearing a helmet who crashes on a OFSC groomed trail in northern Ontario at 135kmh or anything above the 50 hm/h speed limit?

If you are going to make exclusions for risky behaviour there will be a very long long list developed!

Agreed, and of course they should, if they're a resident who is covered under OHIP and it's required medical treatment, then YES..... regardless of what the holier than thou finger pointers think.

If you're fat and eat like crap, should we cover stints and by-pass surgeries?

Spiderman - isn't there some sort of tiered medical benefits with auto (and other motorized) insurance. I know I am paying extra for higher levels of medical pay outs (home care) etc. to put it above a base minimal level. It is a stretch, but could be tied into a declaration to not wearing helmets / head gear. Also, wondering how the turban wearers are treated in this situation - certainly more risk = higher payments?

On the bold, was once turned down for life insurance as I was sport parachuting at the time.

Yes, there is the basic SABS coverage - and then an option to purchase up/more.

When they did the auto reform - you may recall when they were going to "lower insurance rates",  all they did was remove a whole bunch of the standard coverage - and then turned around an offered as as additional coverage - with a charge.

What happened was - you are now paying quite a bit more - for the exact same coverage you used to have - for a lower premium.

Not sure about the turbans - but in tort - if you are not wearing a helmet when you "should" be - it can reduce the liability exposure and be considered contributory on the non helmet wearer.

No but see what the life insurance actuaries come up w/ if that person would want to buy life insurance compared to a person that is relatively healthy and/or is a non-smoker.

Yes, but that is separate privately purchased coverage - not coverage via OHIP - which everyone pays into - and everyone is entitled to - whether you like it or not - that is Ontario.

OHIP have subrogated rights here too fyi.

And, just for arguments sake, understand that those who judge and take ambulances for nominal reasons in car accidents - those fees are paid back by the insurer - just an fyi.

Yes, exactly, therefore you could control this at the insurance level if they so chose to do so.

People seem to forget motorcycles are under an OAP when on the road, which there are Accident Benefits prescribed.

I would have no issue with helmet freedom of choice only if the user has signed off, agreeing to personally pay all medical expenses from head injuries caused due to not wearing a helmet.

IMHO our health system should not have to cover the cost of same.

In theory that sounds great - but it would never work and there is no way you could implement that.

If the person pays taxes - they've paid for the medical coverage.

Further, they have benefits available to them under their insurance policy.

Perhaps - that is where coverage could be limited and restricted.

If you smoke, eat poorly etc., or make what are otherwise deemed to be poor lifestyle choices, you don't get to pick and choose what medical you get.

  15. Nothing for me again.

Was hoping with hockey season taking a hit this year I'd have more time to ride - yet strangely because of Covid and my riding situation - I rode the least I have in my entire life........

Sooooo, the 2012 Cat remains until my kid is done with sports.

Great looking sleds everyone - lots of great iron to choose from too.

    Enjoy

  16. Yup, was in Langton area yesterday - 2 weeks ago - sleds ripping around on the trails - yesterday - not a flake of snow/base - or anything winter related to be seen.

    Crazy how fast it goes.

  17. 12 hours ago, Blackstar said:

Starting to see sleds sit on Kijiji now. Some  are lowering their pricing but some are hanging on for the big pay out.

Found the exact sled I need for the wife but this person is asking $2500 more for there used sled than it will cost me to order new. And no accessories to go with it. I need them to take $4000 less than their asking price to make it attractive.

Do you send that lowball offer and hope for the best ?

Well, somebody is out to lunch on their expectations here, maybe it's him, maybe it's you, maybe it's a bit of both.

I know for me - if an offer is really low - I don't or wouldn't even respond - if we're that far apart - I'm not wasting my time trying to find middle ground.

If you can go new - just go new.

Don't shoot me for the question... there may be some drawbacks but would it be reasonable to provide some sort of contact information where snowmobilers could individually reach out to these generous people and actually express their appreciation.

Fair question/suggestion - I think it would be a slippery slope.

That said, no reason the club can't set-up a free appreciation email address where people can send in their appreciation and gratitude correspondence.

That wouldn't be hard or time consuming?

Great idea. Showing that real people own these properties, not some faceless corporation. Hopefully, this can lead to more respect.

I'm on Facebook daily and never seen it though. They need to reach more sledders.

    Agreed.
