Oh my, you don’t hear that happening very often considering how easy it can be.

Extra oil, spare belt, gloves, tools etc, it was an annoyance - now I take my bag off and bring it in with me and set it with my bucket.

He is correct. Trout Lake and Talon are not safe at all. Lake Nosbonsing is good

Brother in-law lives on Nosbonsing, says okay out there - he's riding it and fishing on it

  3. From a marketing standpoint - it made sense.

Did it really cost much? doubtful.

Did it gain much? we will never know the answers - but those that need to, do - my guess is it had very little impact if any.

Can't cast blame on trying something new, it was for the right reasons and with 100% good intentions.

Some ideas work, some don't - what works in one place - does not always work in others.

    is what it is

So, at 72, I have run into another reason to quit snowmobiling. I am an "active sledder" with no wish to quit, but my wife wants me to quit to be "safe". In fairness to her, I have had a few mishaps, and my friends never like drawing straws to tell her what hospital I am in.

I have a smart 'phone', only because it was handed 'up' by my son. I use it as an emergency phone. An 'app', to me, is still something to eat before the main meal is served. I hope that I can die without ever becoming a facebooker, but acknowledge that this gets tougher every week. I have a few GPS units, but haven't used one for sledding. I access the ITG from my home computer before I leave home to avoid riding on "closed" (red) trails. If signs are no longer used to identify suddenly closed trails, I will inevitably end up trespassing.

I realize that the "trespassing" being discussed here is different from my potential scenario, but am majorly uncomfortable with the idea that I may have to quit sledding because I choose to not embrace communications technology. An unanticipated dilemma for sure!!!

Good you haven't quit - and don't quit. Snowmobiling is safe. Nothing is without any risk.

My parents still print off mapquest paperwork if they are travelling somewhere new lol

    I love it :)

    What ScottyR said.

As I club we were told to stop posting trail conditions on our Facebook page. You will find just about all clubs will now put up a post saying "Refer to the ITG" or watch the ITG for updates.

Ah, well that is a little different from what I was thinking then.

Pretty sure our club always says refer to the ITG for status updates- but are kind enough to post pics of the work they do etc. - which is what I really enjoy to view.

As long as they aren't trying to shut down images and updates of all the great work these clubs do - then I'm good with the "refer" - but I very much enjoy seeing what all is going on behind the scenes - and those doing it should be proud to showcase it.

Bottom line go to club face book page and double check. Many have updates on face book still, even though ofsc is trying to eliminate it. I always check face book pages for pictures and up dates on local real time conditions.

Yup, best source out there locally.

You cannot rely on the APP as the only source. Its wrong.

    100%

My father is 75 - he does not have a GPS or a phone lol.

I also do not own a GPS and have never even seen the app for the phone.

I can use my computer if I am at home, but that is about it.

So your parents lost all the snow or just a big chunk of it?

Forecast coming up is looking better, some new snow and a bit of cold, just need a lot more cold and snow.

Here is hoping that was our Jan thaw and its onward and upwards from here on out!

Its not all gone - but a significant chunk is.

It actually pains me to say this - but we almost needed it - there should at least be a base now - which did not exist before that snowfall and now the lakes might have a chance.

Roads are pavement - which is a kick in the nuts.

Our local club I'm sure will have their hands full with downed trees and I wish I could be there to help as it will be a tremendous task. I know they'll get it done, because they always get the job done, but it will just make things more difficult.

    Mother nature!

I wonder if the mid-size truck will, or maybe already has, make a comeback with the way things are.

There used to be the Dakota and Ranger, that were fairly popular I thought, then they both stopped, I am guessing because all were buying the full-size trucks.

My first truck was a Dakota - it was a great truck!

What is the price gap between a Ranger and F150 with similar trim levels?

I had 2 Dakota's with V8's in them and liked them way more than the RAM.

My dad unloaded his full size for a V6 Canyon, it is a way better daily driver and pulls everything just fine.

I was at Raven lake today and some crazy cottagers are making the trek across the lake to their winter havens.....wee bit of slush, and perhaps ice too....

Nice new docks there now for the WAO folks.

I was surprised that the parking lot was hardly plowed, hopefully that changes or parking there will be at a huge premium this winter - I always wondered who plowed that lot, used to be a grader parked in it all the time, but not the last few years.

I have done a lot of dumb stuff in my life, nothing quite like that though, and I love lake running.

     Nice!

Hows the boy liking the sled?

And your prayer was answered to get some snow over the holidays when hockey was on hold to get some smiles in!

He is really enjoying it, naturally more power would be nice!

Santa came through big time with the white stuff. We had a lot of fun today,

i just got a report from Port Rowan (Long Point Bay) and it's snowing/blowing so hard you can see your hand. The water in Long Point Bay is leaving and the bay will be empty soon. The water is heading to Buffalo and will come back in a wall that will flood the North Shore of Lake Erie. My friend said he's never seen it this bad before (born there) and the snow and wind will be increase as the day goes on. And 30 plus foot waves on Lake Erie

Interesting, I have a buddy right on the water in Long Point - was just texting him and he said it's definetly pretty nasty there right now - but it's been worse in terms of the water and wind - but also said it's only really just starting.

I think the winds are really just today - as the 2 fronts connect - it will die down and then more snow will fall
