  1. I used to wear my earphones regularly, but I found a full day - with the balaclava tight against my head, my ears would get sore.

I am sure there was way better systems and ways to do it, but I was just too lazy to figure it out.

I also drive like a wild man with tunes - so probably a good thing I don't ride with them now.

Those trade in's are sold before they're even serviced Jamie, someone's buying them, and I'm doubting they're wholesaled and put in containers going to Africa  lol

Covid has caused a huge amount of growth for sledding, likely the largest growth it's seen since the 90's if not more.  Just the price of clapped out used sleds alone is telling us that lol

If that is the case, and the registration and permit numbers support that, then it's great news.

Hopefully those that came in stay in and don't return to their pre Covid lifestyles and spending habits.

TWN now says +12 for Sunday.

Debating between going to Barrie and going to Owen Sound at this point. I have business I could do Owen Sound way.

Yup, plus 17 for around here.

    Un-real

Probably drop the sump pump into the rink after sunday

Actually on that topic of growing the sport, we know sled sales is way up......I wonder how the permit sales went for this year - I do not recall any info on that, might have missed it though (I know another topic discussion, but somewhat relevant).

Don't get confused in the wording.

"New" sled sales might be up - but if those aren't first time buyers - that's the same people buying or trading up, which means nothing for "growth".

More rain for the south coming Sunday with high of 8, warmer temps to follow. Debating whether I cram in one last ride on Thursday in Durham or just put them into storage.

I had hoped to head north for at least a couple. days in March but I can see plenty of things I could get finished at home.

I bought that new sled for the wife because she said she wasn't going south again for a couple of years and wanted to ride. Friday she bought another place in Florida. Takes possession April 1.  🤪

Go riding, winter weather is short, season is short, and things around the house can get done at any time.

yes & no - there are more cost effective choices to pick from vs. only looking at the Cadillac options.

You tend to hear more about the purchases of the higher end vehicles vs. the entry level ones seeing as most have been sledders for a while so worked their way up to that, and I think kind of expect or feel they deserve that.

But, no matter whether you buy the Chevette or Cadillac, the season near here is way to short when you think about the investment you have made and the return.

Entry level XC is over 16K........, an EVO is over 10k ( for kids ).

    Things have gotten stupid.

You will not grow sledding with that - you will keep the die hards - which you need - but show me a line of newbies dropping 20 + to get into sledding - it's not happening.

I was able to buy a brand new dirt bike, bike hauler, and outfit my son for just under $5,000.00 last summer. He can ride from April till November.

Could I buy him a brand new entry level sled, outfit him, and haul it around for the same?

    No chance.

Great line up - sleds look amazing and I am sure ride even better, but pricing is out of touch.

Are we getting more snow today in Muskoka? I see that some HGR trails are yellow, some red. I assume that the rockier, harder areas to fill in are the closed trails. Hopefully we get enough last minute snow to get things in good shape for this weekend. Last weekend was great with just enough new snow after the previous rain event. Thanks to the various groomer operators around Port Sydney, Dorset, Dwight, Sprucedale, Kearney, etc. for getting things into great shape then.

haven't checked in for a few days - but last time I did - everything was rock solid with little to no new snow.

I agree with the comments above around a better plan for clearing the road and a long term plan for the place being needed.

I have been to halfway and it is an interesting spot and am thankful of the people who worked hard to keep it open in the past. But without that ‘one’ family or group of people to operate it, it is a tough proposition.

Ultimately I hope the trails can stay open without halfway. As a rider with a fuel caddy I can make it 200 kms pushing snow so a second caddy would make the trip doable (maybe not for everyone but still possible). In either case I wish the rider could make the call to go or not rather than the ofsc just closing the trails fully.

There are trails in QC that have no fuel for ~230 kms and still open (La dore to Chib. as one example).

so I wonder what it would take to groom those trails with out halfway? Quebec seems to groom trails that are this remote without gas so why can’t ON? Wonder what solutions we can come up with without halfway? Maybe the club can find an alternate fuel solution and operator support plan? Can we not put a larger fuel tank on the groomer? Etc.

Anyway enough armchair quarterbacking from me…

Anything and everything can be done, but like everything else, at what cost, and who wants to bare that cost.

Spent quite a bit of time there when it first re-opened when Sean was running it. Never was there for the original operator. I think that grader was a short-term fix that never got upgraded. And they had plans to get a bigger gas tank so they could get more gas in each time they cleared the road for it.

Hope they can figure out a way to make it work. The building itself needs a lot of work or a total rebuild too. From other conversations on here I know a lot of people are skeptical but losing it would be a big hit to the trail system for those of us coming over the border from MI.

Losing it would suck for sure, but expecting someone to go bankrupt for others is crazy.

If you have any business acumen, it's pretty hard to look at it objectively and see how you could possibly make a living from running it - I would think it's passion that drives it - only to come to reality after taking a good go at it.

I do not think this inquire will apply to this exact scenario given the location, but can some one with the knowledge confirm that if a cottage road becomes an OFSC trail in the winter, are the residents of cottages along that road/trail allowed to take there motive of transportation from serviced road to their cottage i.e. side by side or ATV?

I know I have seen this on Bear Lake Rd (trail 65) as well I saw it yesterday on either D102B or D103B a group coming from their cottage or perhaps camp on a side by side.

If it's their deeded right of way into their cottage - they can take whatever method they want - OFSC trail or not.

  11. Was -6 last night at 11:00 p.m. on the rink with the kid.

Just dropped him off at school - plus 5.......

is it too much to ask for it to be winter when it is supposed to be winter!

What about an AC Blast ZR as an option. It uses a version of the 800 Ctek (400cc single) which is liquid cooled and fuel injected.  A bit more than the Poo but more sled in the end.

Will have a look at it as well.

    Thank you

I am taking today off and going for a ride.    It might be my first and last ride from my back door this year.

Good decision - wish I was doing the same.

So glad we rode hard saturday - was an absolute beauty of a day.
