I remember when I was in valcourt back in '94. I toured the museum and drove by the plant. Lots of crates out it 'the field' that looked like they had been sitting there for a while. Talking to my dealer afterwards & he said if they have parts shortages, they would build the sled to completion, crate it & then store them. Bring them back into the plant to complete assembly.

Lydia Lake Lodge was/is east of Longlac. I remember seeing the signage. We rode from Hearst to Geraldton. The next day we rode the Greenstone Loop & then down to M'wadge.

About 3 seasons (2007) w/ my 1st SDI sled the relays acted up in Cochrane (not the 1st time the sled had been up there). We stopped @ Mikey's in Timmins to get a spare, they were out of stock & said that they'd had a run on them. I think we headed up to Hearst & I was able to get 1 there.
There were 2 other non-SDI ZX sleds in the group that started w/o any issues. I'm guessing they didn't use the relays.

(I have about 2/3 of your kit. Basically, I can spend 1 night outside if I had to. Left over mind set from the first decade of sledding up thru Caramt and Longlac, where you never knew what the trail had in store for you.)
Would Qwissy's have been open back then? I recall guts on the old TrailConditions.com message board asking about it. The place was closed up when we rode thru before D16 shut down.

I don't think I've really changed in what I carry since running the 900 vs the 2 strokes.

The power back that I've carried and fortunately haven't had to use yet.
I have a few of the micro relays packed as well. I havent heard of issues w/ them, but I think the larger relays BRP used started to crap out after 3 seasons.
BTDT (actually witnessed) an Apex that needed the 'hair dryer treatment' back in 2010. I don't know if the owner ever took any steps to rectify the cold weather starting issues. He still has the sled (40th Anniversary Edition) but for all intents is out of sledding.

From what I've read it is. Guys have posted that riding on the ballast on stretches west of Pembroke was hard on tires. I know it likely would be difficult to bike on it unless you were on a fat bike. I MTBed from near Dranoel (south of Bethany) up to Lindsay several years ago. They had spread crushed stone along 1 stretch & it was like trying to ride thru the ball pit @ McScrawny's.

Not sure of the exact spot on the north shore but it was near the golf course. I remember a little splash across a pressure crack. It was in the early 90s as we were on our was back from Port Loring & I squeaked a piston in my Mach 1. Let's just say it was an interesting trip across the sound.
I'm sure there are other person w/ more timely info on the ice running. On another weekend up there we ran out to Henry's Fish Restaurant. Talk about a zig zag tree line to follow to get out to it. Looking towards the horizon the clouds looked very ominous.

I imagine GB is not an ideal body of water to be on in the winter based on what I have read in the past, personally never rode on it other than around Collingwood many years ago, and I remember it was very sketchy back than.
It was a short cut from the north end of the fitness trail south to where the tank farm used to be.

I'm going to shorten the screws & then tack them to the spacer to 'capture' them. I have a chunk of truck mudflap that I'll cut pads from to glue on top.

OK, a bit more to report. No pics right now, but I'm using a 4" 'riser' on the rear. This keeps the sled much steadier. The risers are removable to allow for sliding the lift under the front of the sled.
I'll post pics when I get a chance.

I had my corporate raider hat on & was thinking yes they buy Cat for the ORV portion and then divest the sled business to someone else or discontinue it.
Back in the 80s KKR bought Houdaille (they owned the bumper stamping operation on Simcoe St in Oshawa) & promptly shuttered the company leading to a multi day sit in resulting in severance pay laws in Ontario.
Fast forward several years & I saw that Houdaille (pronounced who-dye) manufactured high performance harmonic balancers for engines. Not sure if they're still around.
EDIT I checked Google & apparently not. I think Fluidampr(?) was similar.

True, but what rationale is it for a company to buy something that from all appearances doesn't really care about any of that business? Yes, buy Cat if the ORV portion was thriving, but it seems to be an after thought in the buying public. Heck I see more Kawi' product going thru here.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Can-Am's HQ in Texas? Not sure if that's to be close to their assembly operations (Mexico) & still be in the US or to be central to their market.
Probably easier to attract outside talent to work there than Valcourt.

Talking off the top of my head, but I imagine the ORV business of BRP, Polaris, Textron & Yamaha would encompass the world while the sledding business is limited.
On Instagram I've seen videos of a couple of ranchers in Oklahoma & Nebraska using Ranger UTVs. Those 2 units are probably more than the number of sleds Poo sells in those 2 states
