  2. All I can offer is second hand information, but a number of my friends have moved to the TC-167 and similar trailers. 

     

    The narrower trailers seem to tow easier as they tuck into the truck's windstream.  The added advantage is that the visibility down the side of a 7 foot trailer is much better that the 101" wide.  Loading seems to be very easy as well, as the sleds are driven straight in but park in a staggered configuration. 

     

    I am sure that irREVerent, Nunz, and many others could weigh in with more first hand experiences.

But the cube van probably was already over the 4500 Kg.  I believe if you tow a trailer with a vehicle of lesser weight that is yellow stickered, then the combined weight comes into play.  If the GVWR of a vehicle is 3000 Kg, then as long as the combined weight is under 4500 Kg then the trailer does not need a sticker, even if the truck has one.

     

    I think that is the point mike37 was trying to make.  Part of the confusion is when do you use actual weight (if running empty) or the GVWR of the trailer.

    I agree.  The only 'nice' thing I see about the yellow sticker is that it serves as a reminder to get it done annually.  If this comes in, I guess I'll have to start doing it on my birthday, just to make that part of the year even more expensive (vehicle registrations, gov't ID's)

    Sure it is.  But that doesn't mean that buyers and potential buyers shouldn't speak up about something that concerns them with an approximate $20K purchase.  One trip meter seems like a huge step backwards.  My current sled has a total of four trip meters, although two of them are 'hardware specific'.  By hardware specific, I am referring to the Oil Change odometer, which displays only after the oil change interval has been exceeded, and the Fuel odometer, which counts the distance traveled with the fuel light on.  All four of these are very useful and I would certainly miss them.

    Gap is an understatement!  There is basically 2 two foot wide tread sections with what looked like nothing between them.  I expected the usual 4 inch drop to the center boards, but there was nothing there.   Scary when you have slowed down and find that half the sled is about to be over a huge hole.  I hit the throttle and bounced off the far side pretty crooked, but OK.  Could have been nasty.

    Now i noticed that the black plastic piece covering the spring is gone now.  The piece that you put your foot on to push them down with, if you have soft boots like i do will go through the bottom of the boot easily enough.

     

    Now on my third season of them, and wouldnt put on another set with any new sleds i get.

    Are you talking Rouski (with the lever) or Qualpieces (step on)?

I have had Rouski's for a number of years, both on Arrow Skis and the Tuners.  They have been just 'not bad', IMO.  I have had to weld / reinforce the mounts on both sets, and have broken enough springs that I now keep spare springs on hand for them.  When the springs break, I usually unbolt the lever and reinstall it backwards so that it holds the wheel up.  The set for the Tuners use 1/2 bolts with an Allen head.  Of course, this is not a usual tool in an emergency kit and, considering it is attached with red loctite, is a pain to remove.  These bolts have been replaced with a regular SS Bolt!  Replacing the spring is not too bad of a job, in the shop with a vise.  Not really feasible trailside, or even in a parking lot.

     

    Last year, I lost one of the 'stops' / plastic knobs.  I made ones out of aluminum until the originals come in.

     

    I kind of thought the Qualpieces ones would be my next set, but seeing the comments from manotickmike, now I am not so sure.

    A customer installed his own with blue loctite, didn't let it set up long enough and promptly went end over end many times crossing a lake on a 1200 Expedition. 

     

    I used red loctite on mine last year (proper setup in a heated garage) and removed them with a 3/8" ratchet and no heat.

     

    Just need to hold some good pressure on it for several seconds and the loctite will break free. It should be stiff to unscrew (it won't come out with your fingers) if the loctite had the proper setup time.

    -what is the trail system like? Signage, etc?

    -are they wide and well groomed?

    -how does the insurance work on our sleds? I heard it’s included when you purchase a trail pass...

    -what are some good areas to ride/stay?

    -and is there really that much more snow?

     

    any info from anybody would be helpful! We would also like to start in Ontario, maybe ride for a day or 2 in Ontario and then ride into Quebec for another 1-2 days, so any suggestions on that would be good too! Thanks guys!

    Trail signage is MUCH more informative than Ontario's.  Things like dips and blind crests are marked, red chevrons denote gotcha corners (the more chevrons, (1 - 4) the bigger gotcha).

     

    Insurance is your Ontario insurance.  The insurance purchased with the trail pass is liability insurance but applicable to Quebec sleds only.  Insurance portion can be refunded if you apply for it.
