Hey Ox.. I started my first forum in 1998 after tc.com went off the deep end.  I started with a local Kitchener forum and then moved it onto the New Dundee SC website and that really took off from there.. I started the oc.com forum in 2000 I think.  I remember you from the tc.com days :)

missing it, monkey barrel didnt start until the "problems" and difference of opinion during covid. that was when several left, starting their own website and FB page to be sledding only, instead of a social club around sledding. was kind of I'm taking my ball and going home kind of theater. I miss the larger group, and the more threads, discussions, pics, reports, trip reports, the things people were building, working on. the fights were in the open, before the barrel was offered. Ski

And there hasn't been any problems in the Monkey Barrel. It's just a place where people post what ever they want and no one gets offended. It's more of a fun place than a political thing. Think of it as a safe place within a safe space. It's nice to have place where we can post without being attack for our belief or just our bad sense of humour. It's not the first time we had a revolt by main posters and I'm sure it won't be the last. It's the other 99% of forum members that enjoy the forum that still makes it a great place imo. Imagine a forum started to make friends and riding buddies turned into a place of hate and like always it was egos that made thing go bad.

I was asked by many people to try and fix the fighting/bickering that had festered for a longtime. The problem was solved and everything went back to normal again but for some reason that wasn't enough for some people.

Has anyone else noticed that OC has lost 2 more long time contributors that added a lot of good information and humor to the forum?

Blake has been absent from the forum this season. Turbo

Turbo Doo has been absent with the exception of a couple of posts about 2 weeks ago. One of those was his request to have his profile deleted.

Too bad we are continuing to loose great guys and worthy contributors. Not a good thing.

I agree but there isn't much anyone can do if forum members self-ban themselves. We need snow and open trails and the forum will be full of happy and interesting people.. Happy Trails

  5. The Owls Nest Resort was a good place to stay. About 300km ride from ahmic lake. I luvved the entire area, especially the ride up the lake trails to Port Loring (Jakes is a great place to have lunch in Port Loring) and the ride to the French River. After that is becomes very remote bush trails.

    Have fun!!!!

  6. I've done that ride and it was great. We left from Ahmic Lake and rode the lake trails to Port Loring (mostly groomed summer rodes from Port Loring to the French River) and crossed the French River to Owls Nest Resort. Then we went to the Sportsman Inn then next day. I'm don't remember how far that was (we went to Wolf Mountain that day too). Very interesting and remote trails,

Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy yourself here..

If anyone try's these I would like to know how they fit size wise compared to unheated sled gloves.

I'm also shopping for heated gloves. Have you seen this sizing chart yet? I read they aren't very strong and using them for snowmobiling is pretty tough on the gloves. I bought my dad a heated jacket and he loves it.

  9. Welcome to the forum Dan. I hope you fined someone to ride with. I use to ride out of Ahmic Lake for many years but the cottage is no longer available. Great area!!!! Don't miss out on the King of Schnitzels at the The Swiss Country House Restaurant at the Ahmic Lake Resort.  Happy Trails. Rick

only publishing the trail status on one platform controlled by the OFSC, makes sense to limit exposure and I am sure as a result receive discounts.

That's one of the reasons I started the forum. We can post whatever we want and it doesn't effect the OFSC.  Trail Status has always been in control of the OFSC (as it should), trail reports is something completely different. Ya can't beat real-time trail reports with pictures :)

  11. **FORECAST UPDATE**

Please put down the pitchforks or snow shovels in this case. We are just the messengers!

Here's a look at the updated forecast of snow still to come by the end of Boxing Day. This is for additional snowfall on top of what has already been received from Christmas morning and yesterday.

    Zoomable map: https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/322079971_472000565114759_2612674264541797596_n.jpg?_nc_cat=106&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=730e14&_nc_ohc=pIQ11OmnjeUAX8rwfR7&_nc_ht=scontent-yyz1-1.xx&oh=00_AfAAmpoHDDJjOhg5pHr1TvYhXnIU3xYmRlKcSi2JubtO2Q&oe=63ACF24A

The snow squalls currently affecting the Orillia and Midland area are expected to drift back northwards overnight and into Monday morning. This will bring more snow to the Muskoka region which has already seen more than 100cm of snow. Current data suggest that a small pocket between Bracebridge and Orillia has the potential to see an additional 30-50cm of snow by the end of tomorrow.

Zoomed in map of Central Ontario: https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/321835437_1629598144142358_6587016667121014758_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_p526x296&_nc_cat=100&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=dbeb18&_nc_ohc=PYcmPZ9R3HYAX-eKsir&_nc_ht=scontent-yyz1-1.xx&oh=00_AfBIxnymI88c3FamEOxemSleWmvJ_uTpV88ryz8omD3uVw&oe=63AE39B8

We may also see the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario squall drift back north of the border early Monday morning. As a result, the Fort Erie and Prince Edward County regions could see an additional 10-25cm over the next 36 hours. Although it's questionable exactly how far north these squalls will make it.

For the rest of Southern Ontario, we are looking at barely anything through to Monday. Maybe a few passing flurries from the lake effect snow. More lake effect snow is possible on Tuesday which we will be monitoring and posting an updated forecast by tomorrow if needed.

Stay safe and have a great Christmas night!
