  1. Not many places open yet. Old railbed from Marmora to Havelock went yellow as well, ran back and forth then out to lake I managed 75 km as well.  Better then snow blowing a third day.  Trail was groomed probably a day or two ago but was same fresh powder and fresh tracks.   Better then when it's green lol.

Other than the 1+ km. of trail 11 that goes from Lake Kennisis to Redstone at the Base Camp, is there any other OFSC trail on Haliburton Forest property?

    I'm curious as well.

Ok great.  Is the spot in Maynooth public property?  Only reason I ask is I learned the hard way last year that some businesses in the area are getting foolish.  Parked at Trudy's on 62 only to come back at end of day to a note on my windshield from the owners stating they felt I needed to pay them for parking.  Couldn't believe it.  Someone trying to charge for parking 30 km out in the bush from Bancroft.  I'd just like to avoid a repeat issue.

Come on.  You parked on someones private lot and complain when they wanted you to pay?     It's 5 dollars!    They own the property but I guess you fell entitled to use it.    Sad IMO.

I used to love going ice fishing into little back lakes. Spend days riding around old skider trails and seasonal goat paths to fish.  Was a pile of fun.

IF it wasn't for logging accessroads and trails/fields around here I'd have 0 Km for this year.    I'm now up to 200 for the year.

Yes, and yes again :-D.  Think of it this way - someone in the H forest while driving like an asshat hurts someone or worse while they are on a motorized vehicle. Does that mean that the other laws don't apply? I'm sure the OPP wasn't on private property illegally.

So the HTA is enforceable on my on private property?

    Yeah, that's where he was.

Apparently there is an obcsure sign in a tree indicating no parking!

Old post but does the sign not say "No parking in front of driveway?  At least it used to, parked there last year.

Most of the OFSC trails are on private property... it's enforceable there. If the owners of the forest want it enforced I imagine it would be the same situation or perhaps the MSVA in fact applies there as well.

I wasn't talking OFSC trails.   Private property.  I've never been to the Forest before so I wasn't sure how it operated.

  9. I'm a little confused.  My understanding was the EOTA does nothing and the OFSC does all the work, again I'm new to it all and just a little hazy.   I was searching the CHSC on facebook and found all types of comments slamming the EOTA.  According to the president of the Centre Hastings snowmobile club they do nothing and collect money.  Then all the comments and posts seem to reflect this about signage around the Centre Hastings area, trail conditions etc.  This release seems to address some of this so is the hatred towards this association is why I'm wondering.

I've seen all the grading around the area and the trails fixes so I'm looking forward to the coming season.  I''m not trying to stir pot just wondering if the EOTA is what the CHSC says it is.

  10. Just wondering if anyone ordered any parts from Yamaha lately and had them arrive? I ordered some small items less then 20 dollars in price back in July for my sled and I'm still waiting.  I called the dealership and they said they are still waiting for order to come in.  I removed my carbs from sled to clean at end of year and dropped my white plastic spacer for choke rod into the abyss of the SRX belly and it's gone.  Just wanting to put it all back together but now getting worried.

    Thanks.

I'll buy early, but im disappointed with the ofsc in keeping the classic permit at 1999.

Why is this like that?   MInes a 2001 and was hoping someday it would be a classic(sarcasm) and I could buy a classic permit.

So, three years back I get a new FXR sled jacket at less than half price, as the pattern isn't popular; RealTree Camo White. (I don't care, great price and I had painfully found out my old CHOKO wasn't water proof.)

2018 trip I'm lead, we hit a lot of snow coming down, and I notice that number 2 isn't in my mirror. He can't see me, and can't make out the trail. I guess RealTree Camo white works well in the winter.

Last year I start wearing a day-glo green safety vest, both touring and locally. First thing I notice is how often all on-coming traffic slows right down (even in QC), and provides a wide berth on the trail. I don't wear it, and some guys are close to rubbing skis.

So, for anyone that leads a group, in my experience to date, if lead wears a safety vest, oncoming sleds are unsure if you are Trail Patrol or even the "armed" guys, and slow right down.

(Rode the Haliburton region a couple weeks back (Kearney to North Bay and back) , without the vest; never again without a vest.)

    Just a thought...stay safe...

Note, if anyone from Ottawa is heading to the Westway in Cochrane, can you ask for my vest and bring it back. Getting the sleds started at -34c was such a distraction, I left it in the room; I'm sure it is sitting in Westway lost and found. Green with orange strips, velcro attachments (Princess Auto cheapo)

The vest sounds like a good idea.  Last year after having no less then 3 people on blind corners running as fast as they can;'t handle go full lock up and sideways at me I might wear one.

  13. I see some warm weather forecasted for the next two weeks but dipping below 0 during the night.

Are the trails going to survive this melt down?  Looking for some advice as we were planning a March break trip around the Calabogie area but now having second thoughts.

Going to work tonight in Belleville I seen a lot of bare spots and E106 looked very sloppy.

    Thanks.  Chris.

  14. I use the free one not the mobile app.  Noticed this morning trying to plan a route I'm not seeing trail numbers on the map unless I click on the trail itself.  Computer shows them fine but not on my iphone.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or just myself?   Thanks.

While in North Bay last weekend we were stopped by a short liitle OPP guy. He was rude and aggressive toward my buddy with a Sidewinder with a 290 tune. He had the quietest muffler possible with that tune. Just slightly louder than my stock pipe. Cop told him he was lucky he was going off duty and let him off. Others we met that weekend all had stories of running into the rude little officer. Met 4 guys who got tickets

Was he upset with the tune or aftermarket can?
