I might be wrong here but I thought the cap was $500K which was why the insurance included in the FCMQ is only $500k. But I also remember something to the effect that the limitation had an end date which was fast approaching (or may have even come and gone)..There was some big rumblings within the OFSC over a Quebec case where a rider from North bay was award3d $3.2M after being injured by hitting a buried stump on the side of the trail. The concern was that the case precedent could water down the Assumption of Risk agreement every permit buyer agrees to.

To be fair, it looks like in this case the stump wasn't on the side of the trail, it was on the trail according to the article.  I'm not sure how the groomers missed that.

  3. +15 and sunny in the Ottawa area yesterday.. didn't get the rain they predicted, but all trails are closed now.  :-(  Was hoping we'd make to march break.  Time to get the trailer out!

  4. We didn't get anywhere near the amount of rain (was supposed to be 10mm from 7-8pm!! but whenever I checked it was nowhere near that).. I think it actually stopped raining alltogether during that hour to be honest.  At 5 this morning was still around 0 I believe (unless I was lucid dreaming) so certainly wasn't +8 at 3-4am..  no real loss of snow around the yard, and some snow in the forecast!..  if (and that's a big "if") the 2 week forecast holds true we should be good for another 2 weeks of riding..  my local trails are still yellow (although I wouldn't venture out until we get some covering.. driveway was awfully slick with some powder snow on top of the ice sheath..

  5. Okay so to add insult to injury the Weathernetwork is misleading.  The 7 day forecast shows highs of 0 Tuesday and -1 Wednesday, but when I check the hourly forecast.. it's actually going up to +10 overnight.. from 12am to 4am it's going to be +10.. how is +10 NOT the forecasted high temp???  I felt slightly optimistic thinking it was only going to be slightly above freezing, but now I think we're toast, unfortunately..

  6. Forecast still holding at +2 for two days and 10-15mm of rain here.. not sure how that will play out.. will it melt what we have or just turn the trails into an ice rink..curious to see how this plays out...

I think we did decently down in the Ottawa area.  I think my driveway has about 6-8 inches accumulated, and that's after the initial snow was absorbed by all the water.  The field trails I drove by yesterday were still strips of white in the middle of corn stubble, so there was still *some* semblance of a trail still holding.  Depends on the location.. around Richmond even they were mud, unfortunately...

Next week we only have a 1 day blip with a bit of rain..fingers crossed it doesn't expand..

Ah crap... looks like I went and jinxed it..  😢

  9. Rain started late last night (south) Ottawa area.  Still +5 and pouring.  Still have lots of snow on my front lawn though, but trails where already brown on the weekend...  Going out in a few hours and will drive by the trails to see how bad they are...

If the clubs are smart and got groomers out before the rain, and the idiots stay off the trails for a couple days, the trails will hold up.  :)

Been +5 since around 2 here.. clubs flipped the trails to red late-afternoon..  5 sleds just went by,,,  smh

Your Dad almost certainly had my cousin as a High School teacher - Frank Zidar Jr., as Sr was my Uncle. It was a lively place in the middle 70's. I drove up there from Toronto on a motorcycle one weekend, just for Saturday night at the bars..

I unfortunately can't confirm.. the only claim to fame Dad mentioned about KL was the gold mines and the fact that Alan Thicke was from there as well (although I think they missed each other by about 10 years or something)..  I think Dad moved to Ottawa around the late 50's..

My aunt/uncle had a cottage on Butler Lake that we used to stay at..  It's no longer in the family unfortunately, but have great memories...

Love the trails around Kirkland Lake, some good riding there.

My Dad was from Kirkland Lake.  Growing up we would head up for 3-4 days (up to a week) to hunt grouse in all his old hunting spots.  Now I bring my girls up for a short trip to hunt birds too (amazing how even forests change over 35 years).  I still have not had the opportunity to go sledding up there yet.. but it's certainly on my to do list!

Ok fuse box located on right side on top if you open right side cover you will see it no doubt. Its 3 relay inside I switched one marked power with taillights, got sled alive but taillights was down around 15 min and after sled reached normal temperature, I've got taillights back to normal as well.

Anyway bought a spare relay and put it in my toolbox. I hope it helps.

Oh that is great to know.. thank you!  I didn't realize there were relays in the fuse box at all.. I thought there was only the ones on the outside.  Thanks!

Maybe I need to re familiarize myself with my electrical components of my sled.. LOL

Have same problem with relay 2 days ago in a morning -27C on my 2017 skidoo Grand touring 1200. Won't start, even no lights on dashboard, completely dead. Switched relay with taillights and back to normal. Will keep spare relay in my toolbox. Lesson learned..

Which relay would that be and where is it located?  I've only had to deal with the reverse solenoid relay on mine, and would like to know if case that happens to me (2014 GT). Thanks!

Too bad the 130 hp doesn't run on 87 octane gas.  Real toss up between sticking with another NA 900 Ace or this 130 HP Turbo.  I just can't see the need for 180 HP personally.

If you read the fine print I believe the 900 n/a (at least my 2014 anyways) says 87 octane if ethanol free.. otherwise recommends 91.  I thought my local Stinsons was ethanol free (the owner kept telling me it was) but when I contacted the actual Stinsons' fuel supplier they indicated that all their 87 octane has ethanol by law.

Ofsc app works fine so not sure why go app is not up to date. Refresh button on it or is a glitch since it’s new this year

BRP Go seems to either show dotted Red for unavailable, or blue for available.  Maybe they only go blue when the ITC shows green?  That's a weakness to me if that is in fact the case..

I just tried and its working for me on Chrome.   You have to select one at a time.  try highlighting one, then select next.  You can go back and select the other before checking out.

Actually there was a problem and the OFSC emailed me that they fixed the issue.  I just tried and no problem now.  Woot Woot! The "next" button wasn't appearing before..

  18. Anyone else having trouble buying passes today?  I started on the weekend and got distracted (d'oh) but I can't get past the 2nd tab "registered snowmobiles". I've updated both sleds to "check" the boxes required, but there is no way to get to the next screen.  When I try and click the Permits tab..nothing happens.  I thought in the past there was a button to "select" the sled at this stage..  I've tried Firefox, Chrome and Edge and all the same results. I've sent an email to the OFSC but that could take a while.

It did for me... I renewed the vehicle tags which expired in August on schedule at Service Ontario in Midland... I didn't have the sled ownership or licence number with me at the time so I renewed the sled tag online in early November... had it in the mail in under a week. For $15 I'm not going to have to concern myself with the officer choosing to issue a ticket or not. Then there comes the question... insurance. I believe to have your policy valid there is a clause in there that says the sled must be licensed and in compliance with the laws. If I were in an accident I wouldn't want to take a chance on whether the insurance company would use that as an escape clause for their liability.

The insurance companies don't write the laws..  and currently Ontario indicates your tags are still valid..they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
