Forget about those they shouldn't even be yellow 😆

We rode the trails in Bancroft Barry's Bay area on Monday and Tuesday and they were late spring like conditions. We were surprised how good they actually were.

Either way when it ends up in court and the video is shown it would be a travesty of justice to rule against the truck driver in this situation.

The sleder (or his lawyer) will also drag the club and OFSC into being liable. Another reason to make sure all signage is in place and displayed properly.

  3. I live very close to Thunderbridge Rd and you can park at Thunderbridge and Angeline St. I prefer to park at the Superior propane lot north of Fenelon Falls.

South of Lindsay I think there is parking along Golden Mile Rd.

  4. I got out last night as well. Rode Lindsay to Kinmount and back again. 100km round trip and not many were out riding like last Tuesday night.

Railbed was in very good condition. Some of the side trails north on Fenelon Falls have opened as well.

Hmm. Not a whole lot of good news in that post...lol..

Yes it's tough getting certain projects approved in a reasonable timeframe when it involves numerous different government agencies. Very frustrating!

Doesn't EOTA allow ATVs on their trails year round? Do the ATVers pay to use their trails? Who covers their liability?

Thank you for your efforts Jerry!💪

ATV clubs pay EOTA for usage of ATV trails. EOTA from what I have heard is very eager to have an ATV club form in the Uxbridge area. I don't think that will happen as not many people in the area like the ATV riders. We (snowmobile club) are liked by the locals as we make a nice smooth trail so they can walk and enjoy the trail.

There is really no one to stop a sledder from riding the "closed" rail trail, you just take to risk and no insurance coverage by OFSC or the slight possibility the police stopping you and charge you with trespassing.

  6. All government issues and reroute is a long process. Parks Canada closed and removed the bridge over the Trent Severen. No plans to replace bridge as they cant find a contractor to do the work. The route near Beaverton runs along Hwy 12 and that's not allowed now by the MTO.

I am new to the club and still learning about how to get landowner permission so I was hoping to get a reroute from Glennarm area to Kirkfield but finding it difficult getting out and knocking on doors. Our big fight is trying to keep the trails from Uxbridge and reroute trails due to Infrastruction Ontario and the EOTA (Eastern Ontario Trail Alliance) who want us to pay large dollars to use the trail and take responsibility for all bridges and liability for everyone who uses the trail (sledders or regular citizens).

Believe it was an insurance issue.

    IIRC.

The GRCA wanted the OFSC to assume all risks to all parties that used that trail, not just sleds. I believe it's a multi-use trail so there are many users on it.

Believe there were issues with the GRCA up around Luther Marsh(between Grand Valley and Arthur) as well.

Nice trail. Been through there numerous times when I lived in the Grand Valley area. Good luck!!

    Petition signed.

This is why our trail here in Heart of Ontario club from Uxbridge to Manilla was lost due to Infrastructure Ontario/EOTA (property owner) want our club and OFSC to assume all responsibility for insurance, liability and maintenance.  We were not willing to take this risk as there is a couple of bridges nearing end of life. We were willing to work with IO/EOTA but not assume the entire cost.  This trail is old railbed and part of the TransCanada trail.

  8. I was there. I didn't know it starts Friday afternoon and arrived Friday evening. Met a few people from other clubs and said hi to Nunz. Sorry Nunz, I would have loved to sit and chat with you but never saw you again. I'll try to show up earlier next year.

Food and accommodations were excellent. Well presented and entertaining event. Everyone spoke well and to the point.

If agreement is coming to a close on said date, should talks about next agreement not be discussed ahead of time than to ensure new requirements are met, which maybe it did (????), and at the same time open up discussions with other players who might also be able to meet requirements in that same time frame based on agreement end date.

For me it doesn’t really matter, I use the ON and QC apps as well the BRP one and these meet my needs, but for others that have used GPS and expected too this year, to now hear this with I assume no prior notice, just doesn’t seem well thought out, imo.

At the AGM he did mention the BRP app met their requirement. I have not looked into the BRP version. Probably only works with a GEN 4 sled as all the cool accessories are for the GEN 4.

Has it been discussed if there will be any way the OFSC mad could be available in a file format that would be downloadable to Garmin units?

lf they don’t have or develop something that is downloadable to a Garmin OFSC will be alienating many permit holders.

Excellent followup question i didnt think of until after the meeting was over. What will be the future of the paper map?

Just read over on DooTalk that the OFSC is no longer sharing trail updates with Trakmaps.     This is total BS IMO.

I know the OFSC app is cool and everything but I want the option of using my GPS instead of having my iphone out in the cold all the time.

Agree, total BS. I was going to buy updated map this year. Been using older map for a couple of years and many trails have moved in my riding area. I would send Trakmaps updates off my GPS so they can do updates.

  12. Wow! spent the last hour reading about the trip and seeing the photos.

I originally heard about this trip and thought it was a trip with support crew and all the technology to go along with it. These guys did an amazing journey and did it camping in a tent and carrying all the supplies. I viewed google map from Slims Cabin to Southbend for example and there is nothing but wilderness. Their research on old trails and local history paid off well in their trip.

My daughter is 16 and has been working for a year and a half. She is the only one in her peer group who works.

It's been a tremendous experience for her in so many ways.

She is taking a "leave" for the summer and has secured good employment in Huntsville for the summer so she can cottage and work.

    Kid is smart :)

If she is interested in telephony, gets her drivers license she can work for Bell installing and maintaining phone service for cottage country. They hire students every summer to ride in the boats, climb  ladders and fix phone lines in the great outdoors.

  14. Wish was true. Would be nice to hear of new trails opening and not closing.

Here in Heart of Ontario Club we are working on getting a new trail open to the Camden club east of Orillia. We lost a key bridge to the north when Parks Canada closed the bridge, had it demolished and now they can't find a new contactor to rebuild the bridge.

  15. Shows how important to develop a pattern prior to riding. Always put your equipment (phones, glasses, keys) in the same pocket or compartment each and every time. Also get in the habit to always close your bags immediately after getting out what you need. It has taken me a few season to perfect the location of all my stuff.

  17. I was riding the North Bay and Port Loring area on the weekend and found majority of trails excellent and should be green. Day trips from the Restoule area. Even Lake Nippising was smooth and snow covered, very little slush. Only bad trail was from the Mr Gas to Trout Lake on the D trail. Tonight I see many trails are now showing green.
