Left port sydney around 9:30 heading to dwight. Up to 54 was mint, LOB to Dwight was bumpy, 101b was good in the good spots and thin and rocky in usual areas, stopped at the ASC shelter, what a mess of cans, up 67 minty to wolf lake loop all minty, 65 south a bit scratchy in spots but good overall. Gas at MTH. I see 64 above kawagama is now open. Woulda done that if i knew. 64 south to 11 all in good shape. 11 down to the always neglected section of B trail. B trail Into happy wanderers to cast iron for dinner was simply awesome. Back to HGR all good, seen the groomer heading toward deerhurst. Was fighting freezing drizzle off and on today. 260kms.
Might of passed you on way down on my way to Roseau Power sports. 102b was great, went north from there up D to Sprucedale . Very happy with trail , even logging section. Seguin over to 95 was also very good condition. 95 has a long road section from 102b to 79, didn’t remember that till I got on it… sled getting new carbides tomorrow.. still a good day.

Trading Bay hasn’t been open for a while now if I’m not mistaken…to bad since it used to always be packed.

Thanks that opens up some great day loops! Looks like Zachary's is open for lunch from 10am-3pm. Any sign of life at the Trading Bay Restaurant this year?
All closed up yesterday. Also LOB is not staked from South Portage to Dwight. There’s a well beaten path and fishing huts off to right as u come out of south portage . Penn lake is not staked as well , but again lots of tracks and huts. Also I saw a pizza place ( can’t remember name ) in Dorset, looks kinda new? Thinks it’s only open weekends ?

Anyone know if LOB is staked yet?
Was at Zachary’s in Dorset today and could see the stakes coming off the lake. My route didn’t take me out that way but tomorrow I will see if south portage is staked and will cross if it is. One of the other sledders at restaurant said it was.

Artic JC report very accurate . Yesterday I started just south of Shelburne, railbed thin ,. I would start in Dundalk as there was a very decent amount of snow on trail all the way to Owen Sound from there . I did a loop cutting off railbed just north of Shelburne ( trail 327 ) . Looped up to and around Durham re joining railbed north of Markdale. I see the bottom end of loop is now closed, which it should be , but top end of loop had a lot of snow , ( trail, field and road ) . Great day for first ride , 240k return.

Sorry dated Monday Jan 22

I hear ya. I have a cottage in Huntsville and have yet to ride up there ( obvious reasons ). I did receive a trail update from my local club saying “ The ASC Team has been busy getting trails ready for the season. Depending on the weather, etc we are probably still about a week away from opening. “ . This was dated Jan 27. The last few years it’s been a later and later start. Lakes haven’t been freezing over like they used to and snow hasn’t arrived as early as it usually did. I Never got out on my lake once last year ( not staked ) . I am not complaining, because, I don’t! I have simply put my sled in the back of my truck instead of leaving it there ( which has been the norm for last 25 yrs lol ) and bring it home to gta. I have been lucky enough to get out and enjoy about 700 k of the southern district ——- so far,

Exactly why I got out yesterday

I got out yesterday as well. I started in Erin and went north to Orangeville, then looped up towards Creemore. There are some very nice trails in the Mansfield and Creemore area! Lightly snowing most of the day. Railed south from Dundalk was smooth whole way down to Orangeville aside from some minor drifting in spots. The wind was blowing pretty good so there were some rocky areas , not to many though. Groomer was out south of Orangeville but more snow is needed especially in bush as previous poster mentioned.

Flat light day with squals. Parked at Linwood Community Center.
I rode from Linwood, through Conestoga Lake, Listowel, Atwood, lunch at Brussels. Across the top of what is open after lunch, wroxeter, Fordwich, Clifford, Harriston Teviotdale, Arthur and back to Linwood.
Conestogo is fine. The odd thin spot in a field, bush trails are thin. West side had not been groomed in a couple days. Some areas heavily drifted. Couple of wet bushes near Listowel, passable.
Snow is better above Atwoodand kept getting deeper to Brussels. Atwood was groomed. Bush trails are still thin but many of the fields are heavily drifted.
As we travelled east towards Clifford the snow gets thinner. Clifford area was groomed. Below Harriston the plowed fields start showing through. There was a section of trail near Harriston that should be closed. It’s completely chewed from a tractor, no snow, 5 mph crawl. Below Teviotdale there are plenty of plowed fields where the tops are showing through and it’s very thin cover near Arthur. Arthur area was groomed.
215 kms for the day. Good first run. I stained my knee on the weekend but figured I’d be fine. My knee says NO…..lol
Half a dozen trucks at the Linwood community Center when got there around 330.
Id say we passed 70-80 sleds through the day, half of those after 2pm.
Haha must of missed you in the parking lot at Linwood.. I left from there as well. Very accurate report.

Started the day in Orangeville and rode the rail bed up to Owen Sound. A nice 200 k day to kick the season off. Seriously , I couldn't believe how good the conditions were considering where we were at 2 weeks ago! Great day of riding and maybe saw 40 sleds through out the day .. no to busy at all! Nice flat trail and a lot of snow , especially as u get north . Get out and enjoy!

Thx for heads up. I will try calling Winnipeg , but as Ski said if no result will bite the bullet. As for troubleshooting, I have 4 batteries. All work fine . Light comes on and I can change the settings, just no heat. Also , one glove stopped working 2 mos ago and the other last week.

Looking for some help here. I bought FXR heated gloves approximately 3-4 yrs ago from Royal Dist. Just recently, they both stopped working. Can’t figure this out, I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. I called Royal and they passed me off to FXR. I tried calling them but they are in Quebec and no one could speak English. Luckily my daughter was home and can speak a little French . I requested someone call me from the company who could speak English. I never received that call . I then sent an email outlining the problem I’m having with my gloves and I never got a response. I really don’t want to fork over another $400 ! I really like the gloves. Am I unrealistic to think that these gloves should last longer than 4 yrs? Would anyone have any advice on how to possibly fix them or possibly know where I can take them to get fixed?

Sorry, I’m just looking at itg, shows part of Penn red . Maybe it is staked but keeping it closed?

I see Lake of Bays is now stakes as well. Any update on the rest of Penn and Fairy lakes status?

Yesterday made the trip to Baysville….well worth the drive! And apparently in the knick of time as I see trails have closed. Rode up to Dwight . Did the 65 loop which was awesome and 64 out and back to kawagama lake, which was even better ( freshly groomed and no traffic ). I found the conditions to be really good especially after last weeks warm up and rain. Yes there was a few shady spots ( very few ) and the trail softened up as the day went by but seemed like plenty of snow and todays warm up really shouldn’t be that damaging . Lakes were great to run. ( see pic of Dickie and Raven Lake ) and for what little road running there was, some roads still covered and others you could grab enough of the snow bank . With 10 cm 🤞🏻 forecasted tomorrow and colder temps I’m hoping to get up there soon again. See pics attached

I have a USB plug-in in glove box that I use to charge my iPhone mounted on handlebars. I use just a simple rubber handlebar mount that I use on my motorcycle . I bought a waterproof Otter box to keep phone out of elements . Been running this since beginning of season, and even on the coldest day ( -20 ) I lost about 60% battery life after 4 hr ride to lunch stop. I bring my plug and recharge at lunch stop. Also I’m using my old iPhone . I carry my new one as well and I hot spot the new one to the old one. You can do this even if you’ve taken old phone off account . It’s nice to have back up just in case though and I keep it tucked away in a warm place. . Trust me I’m not that smart, but my kids set me up. It’s the greatest thing! The OFSC trail map works incredibly well for me . You can “ create new route”. Once route is created , beside the A /B there’s an arrow up ^ , top left. If u hit that arrow on the map there will now be a button that says 3D . Press that and now you will see your precise location on map. You follow your route just like gps in car. The map moves as you do. It has helped me so much riding new areas this year! If you don’t create route you can simply hit 3D button and again it will show precise location on map. Hope this helps some , it really has been a game changer for me.
