  1. One thing to keep in mind, anyone buying a cottage on leased land, usually has tricky banking to navigate. Because the land owner wants to be the first default named on the mortgage......but major banks always want to be the first default .  I know this because myself awhile ago and two of siblings recently bought cottages on leased land. The work around is to have enough equity in your home mortgage to absorb the cottage mortgage, or else you need to work to find outside major banks and find broker willing to risk it but interest will be 4 or 5 times going rate. So if you end up selling your Parry Island inheritance, that is probably what hoops your buyer will need to jump thru.

Those are not very convincing articles....a lot of " no evidence" statements that don't prove the point but leave it up in air.  Although they admit  that blocks of votes occur from recent Immigrants, which is obvious when we view outcome of electing of left wing candidates in GTA.   The articles also get sidetracked by black voting habits, but the black vote is much more nuanced and not as influenced as obviously as the immigrants Liberal Canada has been focused on for the past decade. .......just look at outcomes of Federal elections , the facts are obvious.

  3. Got 7 inches of fresh powder overnight here in Echo Bay area. Even with just my  old 340 cc cat....it is a ball running my fields and trails !!... snow is still coming down , expecting another 4 inches.  I guess I better do the driveway now  :)

  4. The conservatives need a smart savy female leader. ( maybe even from Quebec)  That then would make it more difficult for CBC and other liberal biased media from spreading false political dirt.....and Justin's dirt and errors would standout so much more.

I would assume all these people are complete morons with no sense of reality... How do you stop skiing, skating, sledding and many more I don't care about. I would like to see them attack the feds and close the airports first then we can get serious about where the problems are. I live in Mississauga and have seen why Brampton is a hot zone and we have been included in Peel lock downs.

Brampton....hot zone because a dozen or more people ,(maybe related maybe not ) living in a house is typical ? Working in essential services like Amazon warehouses ?  Can't be, that would be racist thinking. .

    .sarcasm off now.

  6. Now that things are calmer on this thread, I earlier wanted to jump in when generalizations of retirees and public workers was made . I paid into my public sector pension for 26 yrs , and I have daughters and son inlaws in teaching and nursing sector. They agree with me that things have gone far to far with closures , and that kids should be in the safest place mentally and physically and that's school,  and that at least in North the ICUs are not in jeopardy, the Nurses in my family say the biggest burden on hospitals is the shortage of long care homes, and that has been present for a decade . My daughter is the RN Transition Manager to relocate elderly from hospital to long care homes. So I trust her. But back to generalizations of public workers and retirees, more than you think are in agreement with you all. Outside sports activities should be open, and concentrate instead on the long care home deaths and protocols, and let the rest get their sanity back and get other hospital surgeries going. Meanwhile... Generalizations are like me saying all OC forum members love the use of aftermarket can exhausts....and that aint true.  :)

The bottom of Mount St. Louis Moonstone just before they closed sure didn't look like anyone was social distancing or following mask policies.

Your right.... sadly besides ignoring travel concerns, that primarily young demographic has been seen to be ignoring mask and social distancing too and putting old folks like me at risk.

I skied two days at Blue over Christmas (24/25) and sledded up north in Cochrane for four days after that over this past Christmas holidays.

I could honestly say skiing and village was crazy, even though masks, etc. just a lot of people.

Up north, for 4 days of 1300 km sledding I interacted with almost no one except check in at motel (masks and plexiglass) and Tim’s drive thru (plexiglass) and Guys at Abitibi canyon had masks on (and I helmet) and purchased gas out of gas cans there (meter was down)

last Saturday I trailered our sleds to Durham to sled 300km for the day and again interacted with no one (except son) and getting a coffee from Tim’s in the am (went in store with mask and them masks/plexiglass - to pick up , as had trailer)

so I can totally see the difference in skiing and sledding.

Your right so basically the same as a Costco or Walmart.....except Doug Fords comments about skiing was the travelling aspect a few days ago. Also I have seen on various local online media the publics frenzied reaction to outsiders vehicles etc. Eg a fella from GTA was ice fishing on Lake Nippissing ( North bay) and caught a huge record  fish last week that then the online media did a good news story about......except it backfired, instead the hundreds of online hatefilled reactions all related  to that couple travelling to north from risky GTA.    Sad state of affairs unfortunately, but Covid has divided and raised up biases and hates unheard of in past societies. ....and Politicians dare not lose a demographic's vote.

So if skating rinks (and I suspect Zamboni’s will be running?) are open and limited to 25 people - would groomers not also be operating to maintain trails as snowmobiling is approved activity?

    asking for a friend.

Now use that same arguement for ski hills......except ski hills ( despite it being excercise)  were told to close because it involves people traveling to location. ........I think sadly the writing is on the wall for OFSC trails.

There was a couple comments about the number of deaths earlier.

What no politicians talk about is the difference in the anticipated death rate that occurs daily and the death rate during Covid?

The Province / Country / City / hospitals expect “X” number of people to pass away every day.  How many people above this number are passing away?

How far above the natural mortality rate are we?

Or are we actually above the normal mortality rate?

And earlier on in all of this Covid talk one of the Medical associations was saying that to be on the safe side they were classifying any death where Covid was present or appeared to be present a Covid death.  So a massive heart attack victim with a fever was a Covid death while heart attack killed them.

    where are the true numbers?

I have wondered this too. It would help eliminate the bias of covid versus actual death cause. What is the typical percent or number per 100,000 that dies from all causes ( all sickness , all suicides,  all gun etc etc for Canada ( or by province) What is trend over past ten years....keeping in mind population growth. Now look and see if all death stats for this weird year 2020 .... shows a significant anomaly ? ..that anamoly increase can then be more accurately attributed to the pandemic. This stat would also account for increased deaths due to pandemics impact re suicides , delayed surgeries etc etc. That in my humble opinion would be a far more truthful way to measure impact of pandemic.  I suspect the number attributed to pandemic would be less than numbers posted nowadays. Still serious but more meaningful statistics.

  11. Can I make a suggestion to Ski A . Perhaps find the Dub town website and contact the Mayor thru the Town Clerk email explaining your circumstances and if they would connect you with a honourable handy  person in Dub that you could mail a key. So someone could check your place , send pics and perhaps run the water ( to fill evaporated p traps) empty the fridge.... check the heat system etc. I know in my small town here in Northern Ont my Mayor would send the Public Works Manager over and have crew cut lawn for free and get you a reliable contact etc......just a thought about small town friendly service you might be suprised at outcome.

  12. I frequent a few fishing websites ( most are American) you should hear how much complaining is occuring from Americans that booked a week or two of fishing in Ontario at resorts here and rebooking each month in hopes border will open. But their attitude is irksome ( yours is not Ski ) they see no reason to respect quarantine even if they could get across for a few fish . Unfortunately it is the thousands of those disrespectful Tourists that are chomping at the bit that Canada has to prevent from getting in , to keep our covid numbers at minimum  while we wait for vaccine.  Meanwhile respectful American landowners like Ski are caught up in the fray. Sorry Ski.

  13. I feel for ya Ski you are obviously one of the good ones that would not lie about their health or quarantine...would not go to any stores or gas ..Timmies ..Hardware stores until after 14 days clear health......But unfortunately there are many that were lying and pretending to quarantine ...or where or what they were doing. We see the stories and cringe. We have done well. And might make it until vaccine, and the majority will gladly take it . ( yes I had bad shingles but my kids still get vaccinated. ) I wish I lived or cottaged up Wawa way and I would gladly drive to Dub and your place for you to check and arrange repairs. Of note we have many cottagers from Ohio and Detroit area around here . We would rather they not find a loop hole to get across and spread virus. We wish Trudeau would make airports tighter from China and other risky countries too.

Just wait until they open schools. We will be back to ground zero in a heart beat and locked down again.

Actually some of the major hospitals in Canada disagree with you. And if they use normal school days ( 5 days a week) and your school bubble is primarily the 26 students in your class....that is much easier to trace ...versus having a part time school bubble and part time various babie sitter / daycare bubbles and your regular family bubble. Get the kids back to school and have one family bubble and one school bubble because so much easier to trace....if tracing even needed since young children seem far more resistant and far less infectious . High school however is different matter since multiple classroom groups and rebellious to distancing...( and infectious) so they may need online schooling longer.
