i agree they can choose whomever they want but they cannot use those reasons. But no one is going to mount a constitutional challenge over riding a sled

The Haliburton Forest can be selective who they will allow in and are not obligated to provide a reason. They can just do it. Just like when a kid asks their parents why and the answer is because.

It doesn't matter what I "think", no doctor would draw that conclusion in writing without actual physical proof. That you can guarantee.

As an fyi - which I am sure you know, they aren't investigating if Covid had any causation in the deaths - hence the language being use and simple note the "case had covid".

Just got back from our daily trip to the park with the dog. Met up with our Coroner friend and his dog. He tells me that if he is specifying cause of death for someone with a heart condition that was stable but died of heart failure and had COVID he would state the cause of death as being the heart (one of the many tongue tying conditions) but exacerbated due to COVID.

Just stop spewing please? The ofsc will be here next year, just like the last 54 years!

I like many others will continue to support organised snowmobiling.

Exactly... if I don't get to use my trail permit this year. Oh well. That's the way it is. $190 is the cheapest part of the sport and I will buy a trail permit next year. Would everyone be grumbling like they are if it was simply a matter of no snow and predicting doom. If I have a very wet summer and don't get out in the boat I somehow don't think that I would get a refund on insurance and if I was at a marina a refund on dock fees. I won't get a refund on my season lock pass for the trent system either.

you don't need to ask him, the Government is clear in print the criteria.

The FACT is they have no way to know how many people have died FROM Covid. They aren't investigating it and haven't a clue - they are marking down any death where the person has Covid as Covid - cause matters not.

That's the criteria - I showed you that in the other thread that you ignored.........

If the person has COVID and dies it is very likely, almost certain that the virus is what caused their death. The person who has a heart condition but is able to live with that heart condition and has done so for many years catches the virus. That person dies because the virus pushes the persons health and ability to deal with that heart condition beyond what their body can handle. Did they die as a result of the virus? I say yes. If not for the virus they would still be alive.

I had a conversation with my friend a couple of weeks ago around cause of death for a person. They had a fall about a month earlier and there were health implications in the recovery from that fall but the person was recovering nicely. The person contracted the virus that resulted in a turn around in the recovery and the person passed. What would you say was the cause of death. If not for the virus the person would have fully recovered from the fall.

Now use that same arguement for ski hills......except ski hills ( despite it being excercise)  were told to close because it involves people traveling to location. ........I think sadly the writing is on the wall for OFSC trails.

The bottom of Mount St. Louis Moonstone just before they closed sure didn't look like anyone was social distancing or following mask policies.

Huh, well I guess it's not just the US eh?

You see, Mrs. Ox went to some insurance seminar a cpl years ago, and one of the statements made there aboot the health care costs for Yanks was:

"Only in the US is death an "option"."

B/c we (as a whole) will invest huge sums of $ into staying alive, even if it's not a life worth living.

I personally want no part in that.

Same here... If I get to the point where my existence is in a hospital bed and that's it... let me go peacefully.

This is what the was being stated by the government in their earlier disclaimers with C-19 numbers, not some made up story or a faceplant post.

I know 100% that I read it more than once, I do not see it being listed as a disclaimer any more though.....

edit: given that he was a negative test, he would not be considered a C-19 death, it is the folks that were tested as positive that are part of C-19 deaths, even if it was cancer or some other sickness that really caused their death.

Same for me, but my mother and it was Oct 2019.....mentioned it before on anther post and if she had lasted a few more months, she would have likely been listed as a C-19 death, but it was cancer that took her life.

One of the people I see in the park with his dog when I take our dog out for his afternoon walk is a Coroner. He signs death certificates. I believe I will ask him when I see him this afternoon what his take is on the numbers. Something tells me that those numbers don't include everyone who has died in Ontario. They may have pre-existing conditions that are manageable and they are living with but COVID was what pushed them over the line.

Admittedly I have no science or health background to confirm your statement, I assume you do. Assuming you do. Here is the problem; when we move around, whatever that limited population you mention, is eventually going to be exposed. No??? Whatever, political party I support I do not envy a single politician attempting to navigate this world wide crisis that appears to morphing into something even worse.

I for one would be scared to death for me or a loved one placed into a 10 or less month unplanned health unit to pivot. Pivoting a clothing company to suddenly supply PPE is one thing...

For me; side line coaches belong yelling at ref's in their living rooms or judges on cooking bake off's. Not here.

I am out of likes for today so... well said... just like Horvath who criticised everything from day one but hasn't offered up one single alternative solution

I never gave my address or other information to Royal Distributing. I tend to be very careful who I give this information too. If they don't need it they don't get it. The only snowmobile related organizations that got my address is the OFSC for my permits.

Healthcare is like any other business 02 - there are ways to pivot, ways to manage crisis - I know what we are able to accomplish in times of serious need and desperation when WE AREN'T EXPECTING IT, real time devastating losses for people, and we manage it, do it, and continue to manage our day to day, it can be done, in ALL places of business.

I place 100% of the blame on the Government for not providing the tools and resources for healthcare, it's on them, all of it.

Covid is real - it's "dire" affect is on a very, very very limited population of people, which is also real.

So you believe they could have built more hospital rooms, produced more doctors and nurses in massive numbers in 8 months. They ramped up and have increased the availability of ventilators and PPE to meet the demand very quickly with the cooperation from businesses but the rooms, doctors and nurses can't happen that quickly.

  11. 9 minutes ago, Spiderman said:

Reality is they did NOTHING to prepare for the increase they KNEW was coming - reported to us for months.

    That is the reality.

And what would you have them do... build new hospital rooms. Graduate more doctors and nurses. All in less than a year. It's down to those who don't believe this is real and still party on as if it wasn't real. I watched security remove a crazy from the drug store 2 days ago while he insisted it was a violation of his rights to require a mask.

“In hopes people stay home” hmmmmm isn’t this the whole intent of the travel recommendations??

    11 minutes ago, stoney said:

That is correct, the "recommendation", not the "requirement", just talk to the OPP and they will tell ya that is not something they can enforce......but instead lets lie about things instead and cause even more paranoia, confusion, etc.....

Things are messed up, no doubt about it.

I live in the west end of Toronto... I was driving to the east end to do a porch drop off. As I got off the 401 at Leslie there was an OPP spot check at the end of the off ramp. They checked my license and sent me back home. Said I needed to stay in my local neighbourhood. Now if you believe that I have some ocean front property for sale in Orangeville.

I took the dog for a walk this morning as usual and for the first time in a long time I heard the woman yelling from her front door that I'm going to kill people and that I need to go home and stay inside. I haven't heard her rant in months.

Ya, to bad the renewal date didn,t coincide with something simple to remember like your birthday. Who reminds these folks to wipe their butts after using the can ? Lots of stupid being blamed on covid, but I,m kinda starting to wonder if other factors are in play.

I must be a genius... I even remember my wife's birthday to renew the tag for her vehicle. I am also wise enough to remember our anniversary and nobody sends me reminders for either of those events.

Ski hill is probabily getting emergency funding to make snow and keep some essential staff to do job. I am sure they qualify for latest round of curb payments for buisness.

On Barrie news a person representing an association of Ontario ski resorts mentioned the ski resorts didn't have information coming from the province whether they would be able to open for business after the 23rd of January. They were trying to determine the value of investing in snow making. If they weren't going to be able to open there wouldn't be much point. He also suggested the resorts may be looking for a financial bailout. They have had bad snow years in the past and received government bailouts. Interestingly though they haven't paid anything back when they have had record years and profits. I recall one year where Blue Mountain was boasting that they were able to provide skiing and golfing on the same day due to an exceptional year weatherwise.

Reducing injuries makes sense, but that same argument can be used for sledding, driving or workplace accidents.

Accidents happen in all these areas, I honestly have no idea the numbers, but I would think ski hill accidents cannot be that high, I know we usually do not see many when we go......but if you have more higher risk activities, greater chances for sure for more accidents to happen.

But we have all these hospitals for a reason as well that come at a very big price tag that we all pay for and I think not all of them are seeing the same higher numbers either.

Perhaps it's related to the Ski Patrol that comes to the rescue on the ski hill for your injuries.

I had found it reasonable for what you get.  Seemed the same prices as tapatoo, only the rooms were nicer we had thought.  And yes it seems like a crap meal at mc d's is over 15$  now..haha......cheap=no nice=YES

It was reasonable considering it's a nice dining room, far nicer than a pub type setting. That would have been about 5 years ago that we were there and for the two of us it was a little over $100 plus tax and tip. 1 glass of wine for my wife. If it was just me I would have leaned toward something like wings in a pub atmosphere but happy wife happy life. Going to Mc'D's is indeed getting costly. Everything is going up. Yesterday California Sandwich for my wife and I was $30 for the two sandwiches. I've found myself looking for the specials these days... Mc'D's had 2 Sausage'N'egg muffins for $5 for a while.

Plans ?   Was talking to buddy that said his buddy was heading north. Barrie area for sledding. Got stopped and checked addresses   told to go home.   Again one story one guy

Stopped by who? Told to go home by who? So far nobody has the authority to stop you from traveling. It is a recommendation. 400 north and south bound between Toronto Barrie and beyond has personal vehicle traffic.

How can $ be gone when no snow=no grooming?

There's a lot that happens before the first groomer rolls out. There's a big chunk that goes into insurance. Then trail work in general. Clearing, brushing, installing culverts, seasonal draining, bridge maintenance, replacement, construction, filling in damage caused by ATV's and trucks, repairs and maintenance on groomers so they can get out when possible, signage. Just some of what goes on in the background before the trails see a groomer and it takes money.

I looped around Durham today. East side has more snow than the west. Don't take the trail that runs through Varney on the east side. Its all mud and ruts.

I was surprised how well the road sections are holding up. I'm done until they get more snow.

I don't understand why the OFSC wants to worry about the travel between PHU's. They have made a statement saying to abide by the recommendations of the Province. If the province wants to enforce the "recommendation" let them do it themselves. The OFSC's main focus should be providing trails to its permit buyers. just my opinion.

The OFSC should be complying with the direction of the province and the Chief Medical Officer.

Fairly busy during hunting season - looked closed yesterday driving by but probably temporarily due to lock down. It is now a Super 8 - a search might turn it up as another brand - Quality Inn? Join hotel rewards and get some points. Best to give them a call - would echo 02sled's concern about an open restaurant as it is not near anything else for food.

Deal at facebook page listing for PDSD:

    https://www.facebook.com/ParrySoundSnowmobileDistrict/

In sort of the same neighbourhood - H and H resort and restaurant on trial has restaurant - lots of trailer parking down by the restaurant but need sherpas to carry your stuff up to the motel rooms though:

    http://hhresort.ca

Found another one - Log Cabin Inn - on the trail close by - won't post prices ?

    https://www.logcabininn.net

Looks like there is some new construction at the old Whitmore (sp?) close by Grundy Lake park entrance and across the street from the trail. Sledjunk found the rooms a bit small there, but maybe with renovations the place is going to improve. Liked the restaurant myself.

My wife and I have been to the Log Cabin Inn for dinner. It's a bit upscale and the prices reflect that. If I recall dinner for the 2 of us a few years ago ended up just over $100 then add tip.

H&H has always been busy every time we have stopped there for lunch. They also have gas available and there is a side trail that runs off of the main trail to get to the resort. Large parking lot for trucks and trailers as well.

That's why the study of Economics is called the dark science. ;)

It's also good for insomnia... in university if it was late at night and I was having trouble sleeping I would crack open my Economics text book and read about things like balance of trade... lights out soon after.
