  1. Checking the OFSC ITG.... B105 is yellow on the ITG with the exception of a straight stretch between Burnside Line and where it crosses the North River beyond Mt Stephen Rd. That stretch is closed. I suspect it's terrain and water... any insight would be appreciated.

That's your choice O2.  I'm sure you continued to pay all your employees during this self reckoning/reflection period.

    I never stopped.

The data centres which I would have been visiting are essentially locked down and restricting access to their key personnel that actually need to be onsite. Their logical support teams have typically been working from home, using the people onsite as smart hands walking them through what to do and only going in when absolutely necessary. My visits have been deferred and are building quite a backlog.

Aren’t you Retired from first career and working on second one?

Yeah... I tried retirement and couldn't do it. Summer was okay with the boat and fishing, winter was okay when I could sled but the time in between I was going stir crazy so I went to work for myself. 2019 I saw 35 different US cities. Jan 1 to Mar 10 2020 was putting a real kink in my winter with travel to 17 US cities and 2 Canadian. This virus is driving me crazy. The highlight of my day is taking the dog for his early walk then the park to play with a half dozen other dogs in the afternoon.

A post from another forum I’m on

I got home last night to find out a sledder that day had trespassed onto our property. He had trampled some small trees so he could go around the barricades that block the trail (posts and a huge log) so he could go play down the unexplored trail. That trail exits into our back yard.
Apparently some sled damaging rocks under the snow will need to be put in

    Some people have no respect.

The BIGGEST demographic of people I have seen who are "pro" lockdown are retired individuals, those already on government assistance, and those with no kids and disruption to work

The rest of the poplulation, have had enough of it.

I don't support it - at any level.

I am speaking out for the sake of my children's future.

They are losing out on so much, they are suffering, and the ones who are pro lockdown have not a care in the world and this will have ZERO affect on them.

I have lost a very significant income as a result of COVID. I was in Manhattan Mar 9/10 then shut down. We will survive but my health and that of others is worth much more.

  5. The dealer can and does have the opportunity to make all the difference in the world for the customer. I will gladly pay a bit of a premium price if I know that the after sale customer service will be there when needed. Same with those who service our sleds and boats. Find someone you can count on to take care of you at a price fair to both themselves and you and stick with them.

If the OFSC doesnt advocate for Snowmobiling then what are they there for?

what makes you so sure they aren't... just because they aren't blocking roads, storming offices doesn't mean they aren't doing everything possible to work with the province and in the NBPS situation the local health unit... maybe bring out the pitchforks and torches would convince people they are working to address concerns.

so much privilege going on here, if I was to ever leave the sport it would be because of conversations like this,,, I watched as trailer after trailer headed north under the lock down, then the problem was instead of staging outside of town, most stage in towns, unload and carry on like kids with no supervision, the general public has never understood sledding, ever, and we give them the fuel to hate us even more, and then gather in groups, then piss and moan at the government cause its all their fault, well peeps look in the f^&&king mirror, that is where the problem is,,, the world is bigger then your tiny minds,,,,, flames on, MFs,,,

Maybe you should follow my brother and spouse around for a day...front line workers. And this Summit news quote looks really credible. Masks are useless.. great news! ...I guess they can work in operating rooms without them now...I'm sure your advice will be appreciated as they won't need the extra O.R .nurse to wipe brows or handle instruments...wow...you guys are money savers! Just close your eyes and imagine your lungs filling with water....that's it...filling with water....calm....calm...calm....

UTS - how about some advice geared on something you know about....keeping a good supply of clean air in your house or office...good filters available?  Air exchanges? Hey insurance guy...any thing we should be looking into during these risky times?

    Well said.

One of our friends is a nurse at RVH in Barrie... her, the doctors and other nurses are getting worn out but of course the virus and the stress on the healthcare system is a hoax. I guess someone should tell the doctor that's living in their motorhome in the driveway around the corner from us to be sure he doesn't bring anything home to his family it's all a waste since the virus is a hoax.

Thankfully we have all those front line workers.

Sorry, I should of specified non essential American tourists cannot fly into Canada. A customer of ours has sourced and installed a very expensive piece of U.S. manufactured equipment. Fortunately all installation was carried out by a local company. Any updated training must be done online as their in-house people that handle this were not considered essential and therefore could not enter the country.

A couple of friends work for Schneider and they have sold equipment both in Canada and the US. Their training for the customer is typically in person and hands on. They are now doing it all online.

It is really does not take much to simply look around and see what decisions are being made for a small percentage but yet impacts a much larger group so negatively.

Ford should have opened up the discussions that Baber brought to the table from the people he represents i.e. doing his job, to show that it is all false, but that would have shown the other MPP's that might be on the fence about speaking out regarding this, but afraid too, that they can given that other MPP's have the same thoughts or people asking the same questions......kicking him out killed two birds with one stone, removed the person going against the grain and influenced others not to take the same path - quite the communist if you ask me!

It is very hard to see the forest through the trees.....

I'm glad he's actually listening to the medical experts rather than taking medical advice from the armchair, no medical experience people. Something tells me those people with the medical degrees and years of experience are far better qualified. Those working in our hospitals and dealing with the patients have the best perspective. He's also looking at what is being done in other provinces and countries.

As to your first point, instead of reading CBC all day, try looking it up on the Ministry sites - it's right there for you to read, plain English and clear as clear can be.

To your second point, like in anything else in this world, experts vary, opinions vary, and that is the point.

I guess instead of hiring my own experts in my day to day, I should just take the Plaintiff counsel expert reports and pay.

    Give your head a shake.

The point is, there is BS on all sides and some truths everywhere, but you need to decide where you sit on it rather than sit back and be spoon fed.

Nothing wrong with speaking up, nothing wrong with having a voice.

The fact he was removed and not one single thing in his letter refuted speaks volumes.

Removal from the PC party only doesn't silence someone. He still remains an MPP for his riding and still has a vote and a voice in Queens Park. Just not as a member of the PC party

How come yah don't hear about all these facts?. Definitely makes you wonder, ALOT.....

Because they are internet facts only... you know... if it's on the internet it must be true. Lake Ontario is gradually evolving from a fresh water lake to salty ocean water since it is connected to the Atlantic by the St. Lawrence... I read it on the internet so it must be true.

Baber is the York Centre MLA who combines facts with alternate facts and has strong opinions shared by many in the province/country. He is no dummy, so he had to know that he would get the boot from the PC caucus for releasing that open letter to the Honourable Premier.

Publicly challenge your boss in any situation has consequences. Try similar in business and your looking at EI

When it comes to expert opinion do you want that of the most senior experienced experts or do you want the quasi experts. He selectively quotes the armchair experts. Something like the person who says the hospitals can't be at risk of being overwhelmed and the staff exhausted because they saw an empty emergency waiting room. That's their expert opinion without looking at the rest of the massive hospital beyond that room.

As for MPP Hilliier... his 2 sons were arrested in Perth for refusing to wear a mask in a local bar.

Are the red trails not touched or groomed and marked red to discourage riding?

Most red trails are due to not enough snow or hazards such as water and mud. Some may be closed due to landowners and some but likely few are closed due to virus related concerns.

What a surprise, wrong information being provided.....but in fairness, even the police and fire chiefs were questioning the new restrictions, it went something along the lines, how can I train or request my team to enforce rules that the SLM does not even understand.....

I saw an interview with one of the GTA police chiefs the day the state of emergency was announced. He clearly stated that they did not yet know what the restriction parameters were or what was expected of them. He also said that there was a conference call scheduled with the Attorney General and the chiefs of police to go over the parameters so that they would all get their questions answered and that they would all here the same message.

Heck this nonsense about the permits comes up during good winters. I remember someone posting several years ago about starting a 'trail permit fund. Every day you throw a loonie or toonie in a jar...

If people wonder why they have no money, I'll give the 'family' of 4 across the street. Everyday the daughter & her useless walk down the street to buy a pizza or couple of subs for lunch or dinner.

I said to a friend that's a bit older than them, "I hope she can (fill in the blank) because I don't think she can cook". I'll also see them buying coffee. How hard & how much money is saved making it yourself?

A guy down the street from us has dinner delivered daily but he doesn't have money to maintain his house. His front porch railing is rusted and broken in a few places. Dangling eaves trough in one corner, paint peeling on his garage and garage door. He doesn't bother to cut the grass before it's about a foot long yet he also has a Mustang he bought new, only drives nice days in the summer and keeps covered in the garage.

-ms slomo's yearly curling club fee - $750.00  bought in August (while some people ended up curling during the season, she did not due to the pandemic - scientific vagaries of air containing droplets over an ice surface and being too close to others in older facility with no air exchange)

    -fancy broom - don't ask

-insulated curling shoes - don't ask

-sport specific curling attire - don't ask

-losers buy winners of game beer after game - don't ask

-contributions to various club fund raisers - don't ask....

I hope she got a refund on the $750 curling club fee.... just kidding.  Club fees are comparable to a permit and insurance for the sled...

    - mustang floater suit - don't ask

    - collection of gloves that weren't warm enough - don't ask

    - gas on a good snow year - don't ask

    - motel rooms on a good snow year - don't ask

    - hybrid trailer and truck to tow it - don't ask (actually I'd still have the truck regardless)

Like was already said - you want to play you have to pay. If $190 for the season is a real tough to come up with expense... perhaps this isn't the sport for you. Perhaps it still is though.

    I hear you!

I imagine there are sledders that have had to haul to sled ALL the time. Then there are those that trailer all over the province regardless of snow levels.

I wonder what the OFSC would say if the day after you bought your permit, you break your leg and can't snowmobile?

Yes, my afternoon exercising was a nice break from reading stupidity online.

My back has been worse than usual recently... If I get out on the trails and find out my back is too sore... I want a refund.... :-D

Ours are boarded at home.  SO i lose about 2 acres of crop land, $1500 worth of hay that I have to buy, and a corner of the shed that's a little bigger than i would like to give her.  We wouldn't own that many if we had to board them off site.

Her trailer is worth more than mine, but my sleds cost more than her horses so its all good LOL

The last year or two with the horse being boarded out, farrier, vet for shots etc. and miscellaneous feed supplements our average was just under $800 a month for the horse. She still has her horse trailer and is finally agreeing to sell it. She doesn't want to part with her saddles yet and her tack box is chock full of stuff in the garage. If I bring anything new home for boating, fishing or snowmobiling.... well.... that's different.

After questioning the payout (not the guarantee) it was suggested that I mustn't have been snowmobiling all that long to not remember it.

    :wtf:

Then it must be true that OFSC gave refunds. lol.

  21. 2 hours ago, Dave K said:

Yup  Got my 2 sleds back from the dealer.  Had a few repairs on one of them.  Cost me $1200 to get ready for this year.  $380 is only a third of that cost.  Add insurance, ~ $400 each and I'm at $2000, so then permit cost is only 20% of my "get ready" costs

For boating they have some very good phrases but I haven't seen anything comparable for snowmobiling... B-ring O-ut A-nother T-housand. Boat is a hole in the water into which you throw money.

    1 hour ago, markweist said:

Quiet on those costs.  I spend close to that. Permit, sticker, insurance, repairs & fuel add up.  I tell my wife it costs me about $50.

I used to tell my wife things like that. One year I was showing my friend my new rod & reel that I told my wife was $100... he asked in front of her... so what did that set you back?... about $750 - $800

1 hour ago, Dave K said:

We have three horses as well as snowmobiles.  I don't complain about the cost of them, and she doesn't complain about my sledding  costs.

Yup.  Even 1 good ride is money well spent..

Wow... three and I thought I had it bad when my wife had her horse... we paid the board, blacksmith etc. whether she rode or not. I don't even want to think about the total cost of ownership over the 24 years.

  22. 38 minutes ago, revrnd said:

Mentioned on Faceplant so take it for what it's worth. People carrying on about a refund from the OFSC. Some have cited that they have done it in the past due to low snow. I've been buying permits since the mid-80s and don't ever recall anyone getting money back. Can anyone that has been involved @ the club level clarify this? The only thing mentioned in the posts is that the measurement was in Barrie @ the OFSC. I seem to remember something about that. From what I remember chatter @ the time was that since Barrie always had snow, they never had to pay anything out.

32 minutes ago, PISTON LAKE CRUISER said:

If my memory serves the snow level in Barrie deal was called the snow guarantee but like you,  I do not believe it ever had to pay out.

I remember the year of the No Snow Guarantee. As stated Barrie was the monitoring point. No payout then and I have never heard of anyone ever getting a refund due to no snow or any other reason.... do you get a refund on your vehicle license plate if you don't drive your car. There are lots of people who have been able to get out for a little bit of a ride. Nobody can predict mother nature snowfall accurately well in advance.

Now having said that... if someone posts on the internet the OFSC gave refunds in the past then it must be true. After all it's on the internet.

You are not alone it seems. I have two reliable friends saying the same thing for last season and this.

I received a Fall 2020 issue of Supertrax and Ontario Sledding, and I think I read that the later issues would be 'online only'. I could be wrong though because there really isn't enough content in either to capture my attention. Lots of ads and content not of interest to me.

Same here... I've gotten more substantial sale flyers dropped at my door.
