IMHO the only problem with restricting who can see the ITG is that we may lose some prospective new sledders if they don't have the opportunity to see the vast network of trails available to them. We need to use every opportunity we have to get more people involved in our sport.

X2  Maybe its someone from New York or Michigan looking for a weekend trip.  ETC...

First week of November is plenty early enough to plan a trip that likely won't be possible for 6 weeks out or more.

Are we suggesting that snowmobiliers who buy permits aren't the same people that trespass with their ATV in the summer.  Truth is its largely the same group of people.

I know a whole bunch of ATV riders that aren't snowmobilers and recently rode the closed snowmobile trails from Coldwater to Big Chute Marina. They all thought that if it was a snowmobile trail that it was an ATV trail as well. They were surprised to learn it wasn't and that they were trespassing.

I agree with the idea, but think a dumbed down version with a crappy base map and one that won't let your location show up on it would be a happy compromise to leave up for the offseason.

If you can figure out where the trail is so can the ATV riders, hunters, dirt bikers etc. that the landowners don't want on their property.

Guys, even if it goes up 25 bucks, if your involved with sledding, and your panicked about the increase,  you may need to rethink being involved.  Not to make a jab at anyone,  i for one KNOW the COSTS of this sport,  but sledjunk is right.  We all want the best for this sport, but it needs more money. We all want more grooming,  more this, more that. It all costs money.  You have to pay,  to play..B)

Absolutely... It amazes me that people don't hesitate to spend $15K on a sled, $7K+ on a trailer, all the gear, boots, suits and helmets, $100+ for a motel/hotel room for a place to sleep for possibly two nights per weekend. $100 a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus the bar bill, then whine about the best bargain to participate in the sport... the trail permit.

  4. Okay... so everyone has heard about doing the snow dance. Then there's the spoon in the freezer and put it under your pillow or the most recent the white crayon. Well here's your chance to do the MAKE IT SNOW dance with a group of sled heads.... Maybe if we all do the snow dance together we will have some very early cold followed by some very early snow to kick off what is sure to be a spectacular snowmobile season.

Baxter Snow Riders are celebrating their 30th anniversary year and as part of the festivities planned we are kicking off the season with the "MAKE IT SNOW" dance. Saturday November 16, 8:00 PM at the Baxter Ward Community Centre, 25 Community Centre Dr, Port Severn, featuring DJ NaZty. 30th anniversary door prize, 50/50 draw and raffle draws.

Tickets are $25 and include ADMISSION, ONE FREE DRINK, PIZZA AND DESERT.

For tickets contact Diane at 705-538-1315 or email dtmadore@gmail.com

    ....

In addition to the long-term funding, Minister Mulroney announced that online driver training would be available in October and that Ontarians would soon be able to purchase gifts cards and redeem them for a permit, locking in the permit price at the time of gift card purchase.

still need to see the nitty gritty on this.

I was at the AGM and I didn't hear her say anything about locking in the permit price at the time of gift card purchase

Where do they park their cars to use the walking/cycling path. Drive 7 KMS to walk 2 KMS. Wish they allowed sleds.

Nice to hear about bicycle use tho. Is it paved?

Going to pull over next time I'm in the area..." use it"

A friend rides his bike regularly from Port Severn and typically goes to at least Port McNicholl. The trail is paved from Waubaushene toward Midland for sure and I believe it's paved toward Coldwater. If you're looking to ride from Waubaushene toward Midland you can park by the baseball diamond just across the road from the Esso at 400 & 12. Follow the unpaved (snowmobile) trail a very short distance toward Coldwater and instead of turning right to go under the 400 turn left.

    Agreed.

Look at the Tay trail along Hwy 12 (between Midland and Coldwater).  Waste.

Multi use trails ( the one in Orillia comes to mind; Port Severn)... benefit many.

I know that trail gets a fair bit of bicycle traffic from Waubaushene to Midland.

  8. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck. It's a duck. There are some obvious no question scenarios. Stop someone and they are carrying an unpermitted gun. There aren't any excuses, They are a criminal. Too bad we have to go through all the court cost to lock them up. Open the car door and the driver spills out onto the ground then blows way over the legal limit. Don't try and tell me they aren't drunk. Go directly to jail, do not pass go.

I think it's a point worth bitchung about.  In 2004 if you bought a gsx you got

    - heavy bumper that needed a $30 hitch to tow a sleigh

    - a tunnel bag

    - mirrors

    - a gauge cluster with two trip meters

    - 2 carbides per ski

Now you buy a renegade Enduro and everything on the list is extra.  I'm sure its helped BRP's profits, but there comes a point as a consumer when you look at the situation and have to really question whether your needs are being addressed.  If Polaris produces a 4 stroke in the 90 - 130 hp range in the axis chassis with the new rear end I'll jump ship.  Until then I'll ride what I have.  Disapointing BRP.  You can do better.

Not saying it's right or it's wrong but asking the question.... maybe many of the buyers were not wanting that heavy bumper, the tunnel bag, the mirrors or the multiple trip meters and asking if they could get the sled without it. It's easier to add the things you want than to try and take off the things you don't when you make the purchase.

I tried them on a friends Polaris 850 up in Cochrane a few weeks ago and as much as I loved the Cobraheads I ran this year the Snowtrackers were unreal at how well they worked, even Karen was very impressed with them. I’ll be buying a set for ours next year.

For that new Yamaha you ordered?

I'm out of sledding effective today. It's been a great winter, but I'm getting too old for this sport.

Slomo is buying my 550 Polaris as a retirement present for his wife. He's overlooking the questionable fuel economy, and wants to get back to a good old two stroke machine.

Nunz will be picking up my 1200 Ski-Doo on the weekend. Age has finally caught up with him, I guess. No more two strokes in his future.

Sledjunk has finally capitulated and made the move to Cat. He'll be picking up my ZR9000 on his way home from Cochrane.

I never thought I'd say it, but I'm sick of sledding, and will probably be going south next winter.

Mark this date on your calendar.

I'm not that gullible on April 1

I hope I didn’t sound critical of the groomer operators and other volunteers. I know they are all working hard and their efforts are appreciated.

I didn't take it that way... Despite the very best efforts of the volunteers and groomer operators, especially on Family day weekend you are going to run into some less than ideal trail conditions. There's a multitude of reasons why a trail can be rough, high levels of traffic, out of service groomer and just too many trails to do them all every day.

It was green today. The section from 17 to Bala was terrible. Mogul city. Hopefully a groomer hits it soon or again if it was done recently.

We were on it yesterday. My back is feeling it today. The top speed from Bala to 17 was about 20 kph. Lots of traffic, groomers can't be everywhere, so many possible reasons.

  14. One thing I have noticed is that many with electric visors don't carry their breath mask with them. I don't mean use it but have it in the bag. A few times we have been out and one of the heated visors fail. Now they are fogging up and have to open the face shield to see where they are going. It makes for a very long VERY COLD ride back. Those that have had that experience now keep the breath mask with them just in case.

I have a BVS2 and although it is a great helmet I will likely sell it, I am finding it is too heavy and my neck is very sore at the end of the day after using it. I still prefer my Bell MX-9 everyday of the week.

My wife and I have the BRP modular helmets. I've never found it too heavy or that my neck was sore. My wife has occasionally said her neck was sore at the end of the day. One of the things I do like about it is the face mask it comes with for those really cold days. It fits over/around the breath mask, protects the cheeks right up to your temples your chin and neck right down below the collar of your coat. No electric shield, has never fogged and the only thing that ever fogged was a tiny spot on the bottom corners of my glasses closest to my nose. A quick adjustment of the breath mask and that was resolved.

No, I have actually never been asked to blow on any trail stops on my sled.

What I am referencing are trail side stops that I have been involved in, in the last few years.....and witnessing officers that have no knowledge or were checking for trail permit on my sled or the other sleds that they were checking at the same time as me.

Based on the new protocol, sounds like if I am now stopped by three sets of officers in the same area, I will be blowing all three times.....:headbang:...sounds like good times are ahead!

I remember the “ novelty” of spot check s or ride programs when they began . My parents and their adult friends thought it was overstepping and wondering where it may lead us back then. Note that those spot checks were introduced primarily during the festive season and then ended. They are now year round and wide spread. After introduction of the latest Bill, I wonder where we will be in three more decades.

I didn't see one spot check during the Christmas season. The only one in a very long time was on the Saturday of a long weekend in summer. 400 south bound exit to hwy 12 for Midland.

I guess I better watch out next spring when I go for my spring cleanup ride in the Ranger. Last time I had the box full of empties in various condition & brands. Wound up w/ over 20 bucks.

A friend of ours has a campground that is primarily seasonal RV's with very few transient. For some reason people don't seem to want to take their empties back whether they be beer cans/bottles or liquor bottles. He has a few 45 gal drums they seem to like to leave them in. His son packs it all up and gets about $50 - $60 / week in empties.

I can. Some years ago when the marketing efforts of passing the new "street racing" laws came into the public eye there was a fatal crash in the North end of Richmond Hill. The media, police and ALL the public information on the case pointed the finger solely at street racing as the fatal cause and the stories were deep, and blatant. Not a single mention of the fact that the driver of the family car who was killed was 2x plus over the legal alcohol limit, nor was there a mention that he turned left into oncoming traffic which caused the crash.

The political will of using this "case" to increase the police state of judge/jury powers to the police on the road side was blatant. I have ALL the news articles saved in print, I've been watching this slowly creep up our backsides for years and it IS NOT GOOD!

I dont drink either but these new police powers ARE NOT GOOD and a complete violation of our legally guaranteed RIGHTS! Think about it. Im a father, no drinker, non smoker and my main concern is with POLICE POWERS????? If someone like me is upset what in the damn hell kind of dumb is pushing for this to happen?

How about that carding? Cant target supsicious activity anymore and police no longer allowed to even ASK QUESTIONS. But if you drive a car legally? You can be stopped asked anything and FORCED to take drug tests etc.

TOTALLY AFTER THE MONEY AND THE TAXPAYER AND NOT A DAMN THING TO DO WITH REAL CRIME!!!!!!

I dont trust the medias reporting on impaired driving stats either. Why? How many of those accidents would happen to completely sober people in the same circumstances? Most.

So if there wasn't any mention (see bold) how do you come by this secret information that nobody else had? There wouldn't have been a breath sample since he was killed so it would have been a blood sample taken during an autopsy.

Second bold... it they are after the money... just think... you would have to be over the legal limits for there to be a monetary penalty. So if you are over the legal limit you have nobody to blame but yourself for the fine. Glad they got another impaired driver off the road.

You have been lucky 02Sled. I have been stopped 4 times in one day. I was heading from Kearney to Parry sound via the Seguin. i was heading to the radar run on Horeshoe lake. Got stopped by Opp three times on the way over and once by the same guy on my way back. If i had to blow into a stupid machine 4 times that day,i know i would not be happy as i drive sober.I was ticked as it was by being stopped so many times.

Four times in one day would be a pain in the butt... I'm going to guess the increased presence would be the radar runs and an increased tendency for many of the increased traffic to have a few there during the day.

    23 minutes ago, snowchopper said:

No they did not check my papers just my trail pass and registration sticker for validation.

So was it really a complete stop or did you just slow down and get waved on. They could do that 10 times a day for all I care... especially if they get some freeloaders off the trails. Also if you don't have a val tag I'm going to guess they likely don't have insurance either, perhaps even a drivers license.
