  1. You want to bet the violator had been drinking as well. Hold my drink and watch this stupidity.
  2. Congrats... We have 2015 ZR7000 El Tigre sleds. They ride great. I think you'll enjoy your new ride. Did they fix the reverse button set up. On ours there is a raised ridge around the button to engage reverse. The opening isn't big enough for me to push with the thumb in the mitts so I have to take the mitt off to put it in reverse. At least I can't accidentally engage reverse.
  3. Don't you know... those signs are meant for other people. Not them. They're special
  4. It can change virtually over night.
  5. welcome to the forum... a blend of people who will travel long distances to ride and others not so much... all willing to share what they experienced in each location.... do the snow dance... we need it..
  6. Toronto is like a spring day. 7.8 C 46 F. Port Severn 2 C 36 F. Disappointing to say the least. Especially after the November weather was such a good start

I will still be snowmobiling.... it's just my wife that won't be. She was losing interest before we had the puppy. While I enjoy it immensely there are limits on the distance I will drive to ride. If I have to drive 7 or 8 hours one way it just isn't worth it to me. My personal limit is likely about 3 hours one way.
  8. fingers crossed for the cold and snow... that bit of ice/snow crossing doesn't look healthy

that made me laugh... I can live with being one of those "old bastards".... Lack of snow in some areas, demands on your time are indeed large influences on how often people get to ride and their decision to stay in the sport. After riding once last winter and now that we have a puppy my wife has concluded she isn't inclined to snowmobile any longer.
  10. I track all my mileage and fuel consumption in a spreadsheet every time I fill up. I'm more than happy with what I get in the truck. Especially when I compare it to what others are getting in their compact SUV's as an example.
  11. I wouldn't suggest HE is a fool but lots of others out there.....
  12. The day you get a pickup is the day you find out how many friends you have that you didn't know you had

If not mistaken they already self insurance for the first X $'s. I can't recall the amount but it is significant.
  14. So many people foolishly assume that because there is a hydro line it's crown land and open to all. Farmer friend has transmission towers in his farm field where his cattle graze. Definitely private property.

a multi-million $ lawsuit isn't unheard of when someone is killed... if they were to win where would they come up with that kind of money
  16. Merry Christmas everyone and Happy Birthday Denis
  17. For the towing and amount of driving you do the diesel is an easy choice to make. If I were in your shoes it would be a diesel. For the average person not so much.
  18. I myself prefer a user pay system rather than all the enormously subsidized or fully costed things I don't and never will use. If I wasn't paying for all the things I will never use I would have a lot more money available for those I do use. That's not likely to happen though. I am just looking at those who say why should I pay for a trail system that I don't use and pointing out the list is endless of things you already do pay for but don't use. TTC cash fare is $3.25 to get anywhere the system takes you which is virtually anywhere in Toronto. In 2014 every trip on the TTC was subsidized by about $0.80. With inflation lets say that subsidy would be $1.00 per trip on the TTC. I wouldn't have a problem paying $4.25. Think about how far you can travel in your vehicle for $4.25. CRA allows $0.55 / km for operating a vehicle. That $4.25 would get you just under 8 km in your vehicle. I know of a municipally maintained road in cottage country, that runs about 6 or 7 km in off the main road. As you drive down it you don't pass a single cottage or residence. When you get to the end there are a total of 3 cottages. Everyone in the municipality pays to maintain that road but I doubt anyone will ever use it other than those 3 families and their guests. I accept that I will subsidize lots of things I will never use and that's the way it is.
  19. I understand they can't provide personal information on the person but why can they not give total numbers of registered sleds? Nothing confidential about it. They reveal statistical information all the time. StatsCan and provincial websites provide this kind of information all the time. StatsCan has the number of motor vehicles registered by province. Same Ministry.
  20. the diesel fuel costs more plus the higher price of the diesel engine option in the purchase means you need to drive a lot to get a ROI or break even.
  21. I believe you will find there are a lot in the more southern areas as well that ride without a permit. They would tend to be locals who ride after work in the evenings when they know there isn't anyone out checking for permits, licenses or insurance. I know of a couple that do exactly that. They just don't ride weekends.
  22. That's before the houses were there though and it was all industrial. The houses have been there for probably 20 years or so now. As long as snowmobilers play nice and follow the posted hours as well as no cans. It can likely continue. I don't have a lot of faith though in people using common sense. The C trail continues west from there and for now appears to still cross hwy 12 by the OPP station. I wonder how long that will last as there are houses being built on the north side of 12 where the trail runs / ran through.
  23. The numbers should be easily obtained without a try our trails program. The OFSC would be able to reconcile to the last permit how many are sold year over year. The VIN number should be irrelevant to the total quantities. The MTO would be able to nail down the number of licensed sleds without any effort either. It would be a few short key strokes to extract from either database. The only variable to account for is that the MTO tags are renewed on the owners birthday. Given the birthdays don't change it would be logical to look at all sleds registered between Jan 1 and Dec 31 for the calendar year.
  24. My 3.5 L 6 cyl with twin turbo has more hp and torque than my 5.4 l did. It also pulls much better. It has towed our 32 ft. 7,600 lb. 11.6 ft. high RV without any problems. You don't rocket away from a stop but what would.
  25. If you're going to be towing a lot, especially heavy or driving a lot of km then diesel works out economically with the life span of the engine. For the average person occasionally pulling a boat, an RV or snowmobile trailer they aren't really financially viable.
