    You're not totally wrong, just a little .... The OFSC Online map is not the only source, the Go Snowmobiling App and BRP GO App are also available approved sources, as they work by piggybacking the OFSC's real time data. Trackmaps, Ride Command and Cats new Garmin nav platform are all more than welcome to get on board if they want to meet the requirements to connect to the OFSC's real time data .

    Chris here's my take on this

     

    It likely won't be long before paper maps are totally phased out as was the provincial paper map.

     

     

    Same as a paper maps the ability for the OFSC to live control what trails were actually on the map, they couldn't with Trackmaps, unless Trackmaps tweaked their product/service to offer unlimited real time updating and prompting the user to do so.  Which I guess they either cannot, or don't want to due to cost and/or tech.   This isn't just about what's Limited, Open or Closed, it's also about trails being closed or even some being newly or re-opened mid season by landowners for whatever reason. This new policy shows all Landowners the OFSC is further committed to doing absolutely everything possible to protect the best interest and safety of landowners and riders. 

     

     

    Even though laws and insurance differs from province to province and state to state, I guarantee other areas will follow suite in short time.

    Trail ESP7 runs right behind the Pinewood Motor Inn which is on the main drag at 2nd Ave. Its quite a big motel that looks good from the road but I've never stayed there. There's fuel on the D on the south side of town. The motel did have a Bar and restaurant but I don't think the restaurant is open for breakfast. You would need to check.

     

     

    Stayed there many times, great place with good parking and easy trail access. The restaurant is top notch but can get busy on the weekends for dinner so best to make a reservations.

    The odd thing is there seems to be a strong divide that are either for or against the “camp”….which is odd knowing most don’t like to be ripped off. 

     

    Not to sling mud but honestly from what I have read on social media most of their supporters are of the mouth breathing "I'm just gonna send it" crowd of riders lol

Sometimes smooth rock is out and you need fuel at top to make it thru the day. I am with inferno on this one. Ride top, fuel up if you need to and that’s it. We are all paying to have trail there so may as well ride it, if you can 😎.

     

    This is what sticks in my craw, we the permit buyers pay for that trail to exist and be maintained throughout the season. These jerkoff clowns are gouging the hands that feed them to the point it's absolutely sickening.

    the last night of our stay, the sleds go into the garage, the next morning (our departure morning), I go out, the sleds are mostly melted out, I spray the entire rear and front suspensions, inc the drive axles, idler wheels, rails, track clips, with wd40, (it is MADE for this), to disperse water. then I top off the oil, fuel, give them a good once over, so I know, when we return to ride again, the sleds are ready to roll out of the garage, and ready for anything we are to do with them.  It really only takes a few minutes to do this but, it adds so much more life to your sleds. stops rust in its tracks, lets you visually inspect the whole sled to find issues, before they strand you, and just gives you the peace of mind, you will (should) have an uneventful mechanical experience, your next trip.

    Nothing beats being able to thaw the sleds every night.

     

    24 x 22 insulated garage at the cottage heated with a pellet stove. With the stove trimmed down about a half bag every 24 hours keeps it at 70 or better in there ( $7.00 for a bag of pellets now).  Half the garage is a lounge/livingroom where we hang out more than in the cottage, so we keep the temps comfy.   Pop the ski's in then put them on dollies then run the rest of the sled in till I can get a dolly under the track.  When we roll out on Sunday or Mondays I top the stove up and trim it as low as possible and let it roll, looking at the security cams it usually runs for about 48 to 50 hours. No matter how cold it gets we've never seen it go below 45-50 in there when get back up Thursday or Friday.  It has a floor drain but the pellet stove runs so dry most of the the water evaps faster than it makes it over to the drain, which also helps make it more comfy in there.

    I remember watching you bouncing about a foot off the seat and not letting up till your Dad finally stopped you, I also remember watching your Dad shake his head when took off on his sled and stayed pace with the group rather than with him lmao

    Brian and I burned by him just before the hwy crossing and saw it smoking and noticed glowing red pipe showing through lol He stopped after crossing the hwy and  there was no snow around to toss on to cool it down. He ran down onto the lake and started putting the snow to it lol

In April 2022 I was given full clearance medically by all my doctors to start riding again! I was able to find a trailer a month or so ago and started my search for something to ride. I am happy to report i bought a 2022 Skidoo Renegade X 900R yesterday! It is in excellent condition and I cant wait to ride again!

     

     

    Absolutely awesome news Chris, congrats on the wicked new ride, look forward to seeing you out on the trail again 🍻

I know quite a few young guys and gals that are passionate about snowmobiling and do volunteer their time when they can.  As an older guy myself I have been involved with this sport for too many years,  it seems that we do not welcome the younger generation into our clubs in a way that they want to help out and also have fun. 

    I have 3 daughters, they all look forward to the first weekend of December where they can invite their friends to help volunteer with trail set up. We have Hot chili in the shop afterwards with a warm fire, it's all about the experience. If you make it enjoyable, welcoming and fun, the "young gals(and gals)" will return. 

     

     

     

     

     

    Well said Coldfinger, fun is the only thing that works.

     

    Our club has always done well with getting young people involved, sure we have some stagnate seasons here and there when our younger gen starts families and can't be as involved, but there's always a few more young newbies ready to step up. The formula that works us is straight up fun and camaraderie, and making sure it's well displayed on social media, without it no one wants to be a part of it, even the well aged. Through out the years we've made it so fun that we have had non sledders and new gen landowners come out to help the odd time, many have become sledders because of it. 

     

    Nothing worse than seeing a club constantly grumble and piss and moan about everything OFSC, MTO, Townships .. ect on social media and in person, then wonder why the same 3 or people are stuck running the club on their own, they truly display an untrue picture of what being part of a sled club and volunteering is all about.  Roll with it and keep it light and fun and people will want to be a part of it. 

     

    Now in saying that there is areas that are geographically and population challenged, but that formula will still work for them and will yield some results.

So I decided to say f**k it and pull the sled to smooth rock falls only to be greated at the gas station by the guy who was at the base camp with im glad you guys made it back safe lol. Your a dumb s**t could have made and extra $200. Long story short that base camp survive’s off the snowmobile industry you would think they would want to help the sledders out we felt like out casts. Just making people aware of my situation, good luck to all that have to deal with those clowns at the Abitibi base camp.

    Those trade in's are sold before they're even serviced Jamie, someone's buying them, and I'm doubting they're wholesaled and put in containers going to Africa  lol 

     

    Covid has caused a huge amount of growth for sledding, likely the largest growth it's seen since the 90's if not more.  Just the price of clapped out used sleds alone is telling us that lol

    Did ok over here at the cottage just north of Kinmount, no rain and about a foot of fresh. Snow stick is north of 2ft now. Took a little 100km give or take boot yesterday afternoon, it's going to be a good weekend of riding over this way  :-)  It still snowed for another 12 hours after those pic's were taken :-)

    Is there any parking around where the C trail and hyw 69 meet? Looks like we could do a east trip one day and go north the other.

     

    Also, are there any decent accommodations in this area or would it be best just to stay in Parry Sound and trailer up each morning?

    Puggz take the north shore area into consideration, extra 2 hour drive from Parry Sound but well worth it with a fair amount of green showing, plus the big water crossings to and from the Island are open giving you an awesome day loop ( IMO the best kept secret loop in the province ).  Here's a link to a couple articles DooDette and did on the area a few seasons back, the Pinewood is a bit dated but very clean, close to everything including the trail, and the food there is fantastic. If you wait till next weekend there's a good chance more will open on the Island,, could also happen by this weekend too, the island in it's self has great riding too.

    Just ride it brother, that whole section is ungroomed follow road to trail along the 503 and up Buller Rd. We broke the B104 early last week, then rode it again over the weekend after 2 groomer passes. It's rare that KLSC even puts the follow road to trail section to yellow, no idea why ?  More than enough in the ditches and roadside to make it less panful of a scrape now.  The B104 east from Buller Rd till it crosses the 503 at the Sommerville forest entrance is still a bit lumpy and does need more snow, but no issues other than having take it at a slower pace.  Should be mint after this next round of snow this week. 

     

    There is another short quicker way but you have to have good local guidance cause it involves unmarked lake crossing on some sketchy ice. Jump on Shadow Lake just south of Norland, run down and across it, then ditch bang Baseline Line and Hughill Rds over to Four Mile Lake, run north east and jump off at Island Drive to Pinery Rd to hit the Sommerville Pinery trails and the rail trail. It's usually well tracked but I'd never advise anyone to take it without a well heeled local guide showing the safest route. 

     

     

    Lastly the fun way, but only once we have at least 3ft of snow or better, cross the bridge in Norland, make left on Nevison Dr to Hydro corridor, follow the well tracked old 340/B104 to South Beaver Lake Rd out to Buller Rd, then follow Buller back south/west to the B104 trial head.

    I have my complaints :) - but it has some very good material in it for youngsters.

    Most feel the same way including me, but I get it, it's not always convenient for people living in remote areas to get there kids to a class. Our clubs in class program didn't see a dent in our usual attendance #s after it was implemented, so it shows no need to scrap the in class program, both serve their purpose.  The other problem was that the boat license people were pitching it successfully to the province, the OFSC either did it and take control or they would of had it.  Though, thank god it was made available online, or covid would of kept 7000+ kids parked the last 2 seasons.
