  1. A blanket speed limit is ridiculous, but ....

50 klicks in the twisty's is a bit proud.

50 klicks on the Northern Corridor is ridiculous, and while I hear of plenty of folks say that they hit that pretty hard, I also know folks that have gotten nailed up through there too, so ... ???

  2. A 440 can get you into a corner faster than the chassis can rail it.

Not like you need 180hp blown Yammi to not make the corner.

In all honesty, I think the improved ride of newer sleds is a big player in this.

You don't realize how fast that you are really going - only a meter or so from inanimate objects.

I know that this was an issue when I got my 580 Grand Touring back in '96, after coming off of a '75 Deere and ''80 Yammi Enticer.

  3. I've re-run those seals oodles of times.

    Never an issue.

I wonder what made this one fail?

    Not torqued enough?

    Stretched bolts?

    Blem seal?

Of all the things to go wrong on a 2 stroke - this seems awfully odd to me.

So what happened to the doner carcass?

    Tree on curve @ 130klicks?

Not done much on these new sleds - does the motor come out the side?

I did same thing. Nice ride into tunnel lake. Hydro line was an amazing goat path type trail with steller views. Snow always better farther north compared to riding d trail near highway.  I remember it being a long day too approx 200 km’s I believe.

Be ware of where access to that area from the south side goes through a farmers driveway, and apparently that route is NOT public access.

I was trying to find the road in there, and then a log truck went right through this guys farm, so - obviously that's the road I'm lookin' fer.

    Very strange set-up, but ... ???

The guy had us gated and locked in when we came back out later that night.

We had words. Neither of us was happy.

All you are going to hear in the mountains know is the sound of smoke detectors going off all day.  I guess once you hear the beeps going off you know it is time to open your panel and cook some eggs on the secondary.

Last week we dropped into a crick/tree line from above. I made it fine, and turned down the crick a bit, but couldn't really see my chum above to wave him down, but figgered that he seen that I was OK at some point. Then finally I hear him comming down, but ... with the reverse beeper going off. LOL!

It's not uncommon for some folk to put in reverse on decent - which allows them to roost up some snow ahead of them and dig a grave to slow or even stopon the way down - compared to just skidding all the way.

    :D

I'm sure all the ones in the mountains will see that code several times a day.

Not hardly. I had snow over my CRT (read-out (gauges?)) all day.

    Couldn't read a bloody thing.

I'm not sure that you are gunna hear a beep while you are in it hard enough to doo what it is that is causing the concern?

As with much advertising we are bombarded with there can be more than one interpretation of what the presented information means. I'm pretty sure that the advertising guru's at Ski Doo understand that fact and are very OK with it. The gear heads will see and understand what is being presented. The less mechanically inclined will read the information and each one will determine what they believe the information is telling them. That may mean that some readers will believe they will be getting 80 hp. more out of the turbo version and yet have no idea what a turbo actually does.

Well, I for one understood it right away - once I hit pause a few times through the very fast paced video.

At first I was really happy that they felt that this motor was solid enough to put boost to. Not that I want a huffer on my sled, but that it would seem that the motor should last a long time without one.

I just rode >11,000' last week and I'm content with what I have.

I've watched a blown RX1 go shooting (literally catching air) over the top many years ago, and I don't need to doo that.

I don't need the expense of that. I don't need the complexity of that.

I want to be able to make it to the top, and play on the other side, but speed means very little to me.

That 3" track - now THAT'S the ticket baby!

I need to figger out a LH throttle for it yet tho.

    I'm missin' that...

I have to either laugh at this, or applaud the marketing genius.  According to the RHS of the image, a regular 850 Etech is 165hp a Sea level, but 125hp at 8,000 ft..which they show as a -25% / -40hp (ie. comparing the same sled at Sea and 8k ft)..

On the LHS of the image the 850 Etech Turbo is 165 hp at Sea Level, but still 165hp at 8,000 ft.. which they show as +25% / +40hp, but in reality it should be +0% / +0HP because it doesn't change from Sea Level to 8k ft. Of course that doesn't really sound very good, so instead they are now comparing the Turbo to the non-turbo at 8k ft, but it was a bit of a head scratcher at first..

    image.png.e084557e3e9257f590585decde748391.png

The sled doesn't make a dime's more power, it just doesn't start losing until 8K'.

Apparently a very small spool, and the pic sure looks small as well.

3% less air pressure / 1000' altitude change.

It's not quite linear tho - it's more like "compounded daily interest", and it's more like it loses 3% from 1000' ago.

Not like there is no atmosphere beyond 33,000'.

Of course they are comparing to a N/A motor - that's the whole point.

This isn't that graph in HotRod showing that headers make 5hp more on a chart that makes it look like 20% more b/c the start the chart 80% of the way up the capacity like when we were kids.

  9. Heart attack?

Had that happen here this summer.

Fella I know died at the wheel of his motor home.

Was having chest pains and was trying to make it home.

I'm sure that his wife's last minute or two was a lot rougher than his!

Kind'a rough on the kids tho. (both over 50)

  10. I have been running a 10 gallon ad-on tank to my sleds for the last 20 yrs, and I planned to doo the same on my new 850 / 165 Summit, but it doesn't seem to be taking too much gas, but I haven't done a long ride yet to be sure. But for now - I think I am going to toss on a 2gal jerry and see how that goes.

I have yet to burn more than 15 gallons on my '02 800/151-163 Summit in one day, unlike the 20+ that I have burnt in my old 580/136.

More power and bigger footprint (float) = less fuel.

Now adding the fuel infection, and maybe the 2 gal jerry will be the same amount of safety that I had before?

Hopefully have a better feel for it in a few weeks.

    Or I could be wrong.....

  12. I'm sure that this is just a slight extension for a ski hill that already takes skiers up more remote hills beyond the cable mechanism thingy...

Who wants to get in the back of a groomer and ride out into the bush to see the same thing the whole time.

This is for that mountain view from the top.
