If CBC news can be trusted, a new doughnut shop Good Glaze Doughnuts has opened, is expanding, and a new location should be open in time for sledding season. Prior to that they anticipate a new store opening on June 3.....Their stuff looks pretty good...

Noticed on dootalk from some fairly reputable sources (Quebec) that BRP is going to be short 900ace motors and not meet production numbers. I suppose this would include both the NR 900's and the turbos - being the same engine.

Have them hold the sled show on a 36 hole golf course. You buy a ticket and get a "tee time" over the 3 (or more?) days at which time you can start wandering the "course" - keeps spacing safe. Merchants /clubs are set up on tees, greens, and in-betweens. Your admission includes an umbrella.
Too bad I only thought of this now.

And FTR, courses last year had no issues enforcing their rules, even a private course.....I’d even go as far to say the more ritzier club were more stern than the lesser one.
That was a pretty good day....dad bought me a celebratory Fanta Lime, there being no Fanta Orange in the machine at the club house...was fifteen cents at the time...although thirteen cents at convenience stores....still remember sliding that bottle along to where it was released once your money was in....
In relation to your comment, I worked part time at a golf course in Mississauga in order to save up money for our wedding - particularly expensive as it involved getting a septic system installed - so I feel qualified to speak on the subject.
There is a news comment in the National Post on the same topic - Doug Ford's buddies. But I have to agree with your basic premise- with the proper protocols in place, golf should be a safe activity. But people will be people.

Do you or did you play golf last year?No - I got a hole in one on hole number six on the Garson golf course near Sudbury many years ago. Gave up the sport as I was never going to do better than that - no challenge left.

Golf courses make most of their money at the 19th hole - alcohol. At some of the ritzier clubs you will not find many servers with the courage (or fear of losing their jobs) that will tell some well heeled club member what he or she can't do. All it takes is one person infected and spreading.

It does not seem to me that the owners have widely advertised the position or its responsibilities - nothing in any of the internet job sites that I can find. I believe the last two managers were hired from the U.S. (could be wrong about that admittedly) Despite the trail closures etc. the optics aren't good for any government help given the broader needs of society currently.
Just blue skying here but here's a potential solution.....the Lesters hand over the OFSC publicity contract they have to Craig Nicholson and spouse and completely divest themselves from any OFSC involvement. The eliminates the oxymoronic condition that exists where the OFSC bans the use of aftermarket exhaust systems and other such products while an OFSC magazine advertises and reviews these products. Most of the publicity for the OFSC is done on the internet through email or facebook and the magazine (if you ever got a copy) is largely irrelevant.
The Lesters take over Half Way haven - at their own expense - and create a mecca (just to be inclusive) - a world class facility - for off trail riders, an aspect of the sport for which they have been pushing for years. This could be done in conjunction with Wawa's "mystery spot" for those looking for pow back in the woods. In the off season, the same place is used for ATV's which is another sideline of Lester business. With the majority of the clientele staying for 1 night or just stopping for gas and a meal, an expansion in facilities built of used shipping containers could be done rather inexpensively.
Staff would rotate between the family compound somewhere near Haliburton (?) and Half Way depending on the season.
The sleddin' Lesters - zeke, abner, cletus, clive, dudley, and forest - would person the place in the winter.
The atv'n Lesters - jedediah, otis, rueben, bucephelus, buck, cooter, and jed - would run the ATV facility. An extra person is with this team to be in charge of re-supply.
Provided a feud didn't develop between the sleddin' Lesters and the atv'n Lesters, I think it would work.

Understanding tax obligations is great but understanding tax efficiency goes much farther outside of registered accounts.
A good exercise would be for the class to create a virtual portfolio for registered and non registered portfolios and see who performs the best. But who at the secondary level is able to provide that?
That's accounting teacher retired - early - due to very successful investing and discipline over the years. Still have a few irons in the fire though. As for secondary level stock market and other investment strategy games many are available - such as this one: https://www.stockmarketgame.org

As per Muskoka 1 - other than a rudimentary outline of personal finance concepts, unless the kid has got a part-time job and is handling his/her own money, the information usually goes in one ear and out the other. Most figure they will count on their rap music careers for a good living, and leave the financial end to an accountant. Telling them the tragic tale of MC Hammer didn't work either.
What I found most useful in 19.9 years of teaching high school accounting was to create T4 slips with representative income and congruent deductions, (sometimes with RRSP and charitable contributions, sometimes not) General T1 forms, Federal Tax forms and Ontario tax forms and have them complete the income tax filing. You can do this yourself at home - print the blank T4 and other forms available from CRA, enter info in all the boxes and let them have at it. Tax year 2014 works well, as after they have conquered the paper forms, most tax software (Studio Tax for instance) is free for that year and you can use that to follow up. Using the paper version first demonstrates how the process works and ensures all information is understood.
There are all kinds of questions that come up as some tried to claim retirement income at age 16, wondered why there is a volunteer firefighter deduction, found out what an R.R. mailing address is, the difference between E.I. premiums and income, and generally forget to claim the age and personal deductions. Some even marvelled at the $25,000 or more income tax taken off with an annual income of $100K plus, which seemed to most as a lot of money.
Over the four days it took for them to fight their way to the finish (or not) I would pretend I was the CRA help line and any question was met with me humming the theme song from the movie "Brazil"...do do doo, do do dodo do.... telling them their call was important and would be handled by the first available customer service rep. Not sure who had more fun....me or them.
I usually ended with the admonishment " if I see any of you guys in a line up at H & R Block at the back of Walmart clutching a single T4 slip, I'll personally send you out the front of that store on the end of my boot".

If you have kids, buy them the book and get them on the right track early. Most parent don't talk to their kids about money, nor can the majority explain various investment options.

Not sure about entitlement - I would say confused priorities. In the "Wealthy Barber" by David Chilton, his strategy is "pay yourself first". (first edition) He advocates your allocations should include pension and savings payments each month to (for) yourself in addition to paying your external bills. If day to day bills are paid and RRSP's and TFSA's, emergency funds etc. are taken care of to top up levels each year, indulge yourself with what is left over for other things in life.

The axle on mine is from Lippert. U.S. made and parts available. I am talking about the inline hybrid 7'X 16' , so there is no confusion.
The Prostarr Bullit hybrid advertised on Action Trailer website does not have a front door. However you can get on as an option AND if you want six inches of extra interior height, you can get that as an option as well. Blake and I are rather compact (but husky) so the height is bearable for the sledding season - those taller folks might want to increase the height.
The Bullitt tows very well and I like the seven foot width as opposed to the eight foot width. Helps on the highway and backing into places. The extra room for gear in addition to two machines comes in handy.

Another alternative for you to consider - comes with standard wheels, spare, front door, track matts all included. Looks like leaf springs though.

On this topic - I usually keep a DESS key in the console of the truck for the convenience when unloading sled from trailer at destination and the other key is packed with my riding gear. Does anyone know if sitting in the cold for long periods reduces any type of battery life in the DESS key? How about the necessity of keeping the DESS keys away - at least 5 feet - from other "programmed" keys such as those for your truck?

It may very well be that what passes for good quality and excellence is different in other countries than what is expected here. In the case of the Pinewood in Barry's Bay, the previous owners were always upgrading and making improvement to the facility including some not usually noticed by patrons - better ventilation, hard wood floors, better mattresses etc. and promoted a sense of concern for the environment. I hope they received a good return on their initial investment and hard work.
Thanks Grover for the mention of the Mountain View by Wilno - had no reason to try it out before but reviews are good and it is right on the trail.

The Pinewood was our place of choice in Barry's Bay - we enjoyed quite a good relationship with the previous owners who moved to Barry's Bay and motel ownership to get out of the city.....hopefully the new owners can keep the same level of service as previously provided....motel is right on the trail....

In further news, becoming quite impressed with the improvement in Newfoundland tourism since living there in the '90's and subsequent visits. Been researching and compiling trail side accommodations and motels for upcoming trips - well worth looking into if you're adventurous and courageous enough to go some place different instead of the same old... same old ....over and over blah... blah... blah... again. A big find though came while scanning amenities at the Holiday Inn Express in Deer Lake Nfld...looking forward to trying it out......

Not sure what their "walk in" status is these days, but Bennett's in Whitby has had end of season discounts on instore BRP stuff - bags, gas cans, etc. See what they have in stock.

I will try to locate the thread read in passing....general gist was underestimating the number of engines needed and being shipped for the year with increased numbers ordered for covid. Just something for potential buyers / possibly spring orders for certain models to think about, particularly if the dealer or elsewhere has your last year's sled.
