  1. Trails and most lakes in the  kawartha highlands are holding up well.     some slush coming up but still good snow cover  .    Sun is  melting south sides.       Ofsc  Trails are in good shape except for any road running.       time to watch for currents at creek outlets.      Koshabog lake  and upper Stoney still good    but  anywhere on Trent severn   main channel   from Birch point Sturgeon to  Youngs Pt   (lower Stoney Clear Lake)   now basically unsafe due to current

  2. eels creek is ice damned or there is just too much water in swamp at end of big cedar where you would connect viamede trail to haultain trail   little ice crossing at bottom of hill onto marsh is open and impassable.   Haultain trail to Big Cedar lake and kawartha highlands access  is open    . Trails   north of nephton were all excellent all last weekend frozen flat and stayed flat  even sunday Thanks for a great job                  Almost all of Kawartha highland lakes are in good shape excellent running .       All main routes have been run just watch the creeks are moving     Anstruther Lake marina is open for  gas  and food and beverages  ofsc trail is open lots of snow        check first if mid week705 656 4783        the catch is open for burgers at beaver lake road dont count on gas at  liitle gull marina  on mississauga they are closed but my help with gas if they are there

  3. E-107  is packed  usable with caution there are still a lot of rocks showing.

Koshabog lake is staked and oak lake  and trail now good

hole at stony lake e 107  trail has been fixed

Lake has been run on several routes to viamede from dummer lake and  e107 trail to apsley

Stony may be staked  this week

Dummer lake  crossing i from Rice lake trails is marked closed but freezes early.  Inlet and outlet are always open use caution or dummer road east takes you from  rice trail to just east of trail to stony

  4. 2 days of racing  on 3/8 mile track  on the ice at viamede stony lake ,   ontario oval ice racers    www.  osorlife.ca

i believe boathouse and hotel both open   track is in great shape

over 30 race classes available  all ages

same event as golden beach last couple years

The ice on stoney has some pressure cracking and a mud hole issue on exit trail near head of stoney.

Main routes have been run  from mcrackens landing and rice lake club trail as well as kosh lake trails

anyone unfamiliar with the kawartha lakes area  is best to ask before driving on ice

In the stony area ice is always unsafe to the west and south near the main trent canal current from burliegh falls

The lake is heavily snow covered at the moment and not staked  some slushy spots  and pressure cracking has occured

Because of the current that exists in the kawartha lakes main trent canal channel , never go  southwest of viamede hotel or anywhere in the entire kawartha lakes near the main  bouyed channel

Nightime  it is  vary easy to get disoriented at night and end up in open water

  5. Another accident with skidoos sensitive throttles this time involving air ambulance.

A slow speed turning accident with a 900 ace  sent a women to hospital with serious injuries.    The 600 and. 900 ace  are wonderful  quite engine but unless engine is set to eco  mode  they can cause a loss of control due to torque of the 4 stroke.       Don't. Operate with muff  on throttle and use eco mode for inexperienced drivers, or in tight  quarters.      These machines do not. Appear to be dangerous at first and a good choice for beginners but theirunstoppable bottom  end makes them dangerous probably why skidoo installed eco mode on new ones.       Third incident this year in our area. In volving muffs or just these touchythrottle

  6. The 600 etec does very well when run easy .   Fuel mileage drops off fast at high power  no better really than carb 600  when throttled up.   Apparently only the etec outboards recieve a statified charge at higher rpms   outboard  max out 5500 or 6000       Last time I putted with the bride on the 600 etec touring mileage   was very impressive . It would not doubt  rival  or beat a 600 ace  with the same workload.    At 4000 you are in outboard rpm range and i believe also get the statified charge fuel economy that makes the outboards blow the doors off 4 strokes when driven easy

    .

  7. did the  abilti canyon loop run   on the 600 ace  the other day without fueling   total    300 km  cochrane smooth rock  cochrane    worked out to  10 km  per litre     45 km per gallon         or 28 miles per  gallon  imperial       At 300 km you had better find fuel  usable is far less than fuel capacity on  sled maybe    34 litres or so       ran  half west side at 110 k   or so  no trying to save fuel    only time ace lacks is in deep power running on hydro access were it maxs at 70 k .    there is 3 feet of powder though and  i have to weigh 260 with all the gear and luggage       had to resort to following a swt 600 etec   thing  floats like feather  stings like bee               The ace eats a pile more gas in powder probably double the amount
