  1. Glad to hear bill, your positive attitude and determination through all things life's thrown at you is a true testament and certainly believe has helped move you through everything, including this successfully.  Having a great support system of family and friends, I couldn't agree more is such a benefit and I too feel for those who don't have the same luxury.

All the best and keep it up!

  2. Had a great time on the weekend. Saturday ran the cottage road a bit, and took a buddy there out for a quick trip down the road to find the boat launch onto the lake. Everything looked fine, with a few tracks but didn't end up going on the lake since I didn't know it/not a staked lake, and the primary purposes wasn't sledding.  We did try some ice fishing at the cottage, but no bites (wasn't expecting to, it was more drill a couple holes to see/say we did it and then have a few beers for an hour while doing it) and ended up seeing 4-5 sleds on various parts of the lake confirming my expectation it was fine.  Anyway as you mentioned Wild Bill, the local trail did open Sunday (330/340/350) so was able to take a quick solo rip for an hour, and then after everyone else took off, we cleaned up the cottage, my buddy and I ripped from rosseau to Memories of Muskoka for dinner and then back on mint trails. He had so much fun, when weather turns cold again, he wants to go out again, and he was like, great now I have to get some sleds for the cottage...LOL

Now went for a different kind of ride Sunday night on the way home....there was a some misting was unaware that had happened that laid down a thin layer of water that turned to black ice, and the salters hadn't been out, so right when we turned onto the main road, I fortunately wasn't' going fast or anything, but ended up sliding back and forth, actually gaining speed down a hill with brakes fully on with my trailer at one point ahead of the vehicle, eventually ping ponging off the snowbanks. Was lucky and happy no cars were on that section at the time or could have been real bad, and the snowbanks helped stop us and get back under control, but did bash corner of my trailer against the rear panel that will have to bang out, but no major mechanical damage to vehicle, trailer or sleds, just a flesh wound. 😅  Needless to say, after that adrenaline shot, had no worries about needing any caffeine injections or anything for the drive home.... 😂

Anyway thanks for the info, hopefully this warm up is brief and doesn't ruin too many trails and we get the snow forecast later in the week to freshen things back up and open up for some more riding.

I want a Mach Z triple but I miss my 1996 XCR600 ran great when it was cold out.

Well as per my pic, my 95 XLT is still my first and main sled. Gonna be sad if/when she ever dies....just crossed 10K miles so she's getting up there, but has been like the energizer bunny just keeps going, and with minimal TLC. Love it..

Now will say every fill is a litre of 2 stroke....sorry for the stink when I pass...but that smell just reminds me of sleddin. 🤣

Have got many thumbs up and comments on the old girl....and lots of 'I used to have one of those, or that was my first sled'

  4. I carry a roll of hockey tape in my jacket, which has helped a few times with some minor 'fixes' but travel duct tape can be a miracle worker. :)

Now I ride basic old girls, so my running in top condition is probably worse than many of your peeps sleds in their worst... 🤣

I often have one of those cheap hose gas pump things just in case and some dollars in the pocket should I ever need an assist, fortunately have yet to ever run out/dish out. :)

Lastly I try to make sure that I have my towing bridle in the back of whichever sled I take out as insurance... like taking an umbrella so it doesn't rain...

  5. My guess is a just bad data cache or refresh update on a segment in the app.  While I don't know anything about the back end programming of it specifically, I am in tech and have seen more than my fair share of similar gremlins over my days.  Was out on our local trails a few weeks ago and stopped to check a group looking at one of our signboards to see if they needed info.  They commented all the trails showed closed in the app, so i brought up the ITG on my mobile browser and showed them both that they were fine (considering I send in the availability, I knew they were good,) and which way to go.

I have seen similar issues in the past which are usually brief, and sometimes going to a different zoom level, moving to a different area and back, or closing/reopening clears it up.

Or as I always drive my wife nuts when she asks tech issues, "did you try rebooting it?"  and voila, problem solved.... lol #1 fix to so many things.... gotta stop letting my IT secrets out for free... ;)

    Cutting first tracks this morning.

Hard to believe I’ve been riding through this same trail for well over 50 years now.

  7. ok thanks, will still plan to bring. we may just putter around sucker if the 330/350 that's on the ITG doesn't open directly. The weekend is kind of thrown together, so no idea what people are actually wanting to do. Sounds like a few guys super into ice fishing, a few guys just want to eat/drink, so we'll see what shapes up.

If anyone else local has any more info, LMK thx!  Hope people enjoying the storms this winter, superbowl sunday did a 300km RIP and was probably the best conditions have had here in SWO in like 10Y.

  8. Any area folks happen to know if they're making any progress on the trails around Rosseau/Humphrey area, specifically the 330/350?

Heading to my buddies cottage on sucker lake next weekend (Feb 21-23, 2025) with a bunch of guys to hang, try ice fishing, and hopefully take my old sleds, if trails likely to open.

Everything currently looks disconnected, I'm presuming due to MOU issues and closed ATM, so not much in the way of options to connect to anything as it sits.

Secondly any local lake conditions reports for the area be it sucker lake or others? Assuming things decent this year with the consistent cold, but I have the proper respect/self preservation fear of going through ice, so do prefer staked ones and local knowledge and recent updates. :)

  9. Only 'missed opportunities'  I have were a dumb one: 1. wanted to sled to work from home, just to say I did it. It was on the edge of waterloo, and would have been all shoulder and ditch banging, but totally doable back when we got lots of snow. No longer work there, and work from home, so from home to work is me walking 10' ;)

    2. The still on the list one is do the RAP, which in Feb 2016 a buddy and I planned to ride from his cottage in dorset and do it, on my 95 XLT and his similar vintage MXZ ('96?) unfortunately I had suspension problems on trail the first day, and so we popped over to Rickward's who were able to pull my skid and fix the one axel/sheared bolts (WOOT!) but noticed my shock was done and the mount had some pretty good cracks in it.  So we decided might not be the best idea to continue, an instead we went up to the ice caves as had never been, then back to his cottage, and then rode to whitney (Mad musher!) and back the next day.  When we checked our mileage we basically had done roughly the same mileage as doing the RAP. So we would have been fine, but we had an amazing trip anyways, so it's not at all a regret, just that we had a buddy ice fishing on the ottawa river, as a potential save had we run into issues along the top so timing was aligned/that's the missed opportunity.  Just means RAP still on the list. Changed the skid out to one from a parts machine, and am still running the same XLT, which just crossed 10K miles this weekend still on original engine (and 90% original parts.)

Still best trip same buddy and I did was riding to his cottage in dorset from Waterloo Rod and gun, and then back the next day on those same two machines a few years before this trip  ~950km round trip if I recall...

Yes old trail thru the flats was pretty good. Why was it moved? Rode thru there a few years ago it was abit of a splash across river at bottom. Imagine it's still wide open or very thin?

Yes, that's one of our trails (Elmira SC) and like others wish there was a better alternative especially when roads/shoulder is bare.  Rode it 3-4 times this weekend, and fortunately cold had some snow for most of the way.

Regarding why not through the flats.  It's the usual Landowner permission loss, it's GRCA land.  Some people unfortunately still ignore the no trespassing/closed signage there, which doesn't ever help to get things open again.  Have heard that GRCA permissions are hopefully overall are being worked through at higher levels after the great collaboration D9/Lake Conestoga did to get their clubhouse/trails open again, so hopefully we can get access through there in the future.

As always, we have the privilege of landowners allowing us to use their property for our trails and they retain all rights to their usage.  Hence why staying between the stakes and treating property and everyone with courtesy and respect irrespective of where you are riding goes a long way to maintaining that delicate relationship or we would have no trails!
