BTW,

Great pictures, definitely something I want to do when my son is a bit older. The language (barrier) should never be an issue.

Thanks, SJ...I'll now do that, with the intention that I supplement rather than duplicate your report and pics.

Firstly, SJ, I agree with all of your comments and commentary in your initial post in this thread. As I have told various friends and family, this loop of Gaspe was a "bucket list" trip for us, and it certainly didn't disappoint, despite the various weather challenges we faced, both on the highways getting to and from Rimouski, as well as on some of our 5.5 days spend riding the trails.

The trails themselves covered virtually the full gamut of what we experience in Ontario, and then some -- everything from fast, open-field stake-lines, utility corridors and summer roads, to twisty & tight bush trails, and most notably, steep winding mountain ascents and descents that literally took one's breath away. Highlights included our 1800-ft descent from the mountains down into Mt-Ste-Pierre for lunch (at sea level), and re-ascent back "up-top" to continue our journey, and our stay at Perce, with a stunning view of the infamous Perce Rock right from the hotel.

The following pics are some additional shots to supplement SJ's earlier in this thread...I have re-sized them as small as possible due to the total number of pics in this post, so you'll have to click on each one to get a proper view of the image:

Can you say STEEP trail? The white line visible in the distance (right-centre portion of this pic) was our trail climbing back up onto the top of the mountain...Yikes!

Although we don't have photographic proof, this bridge is now 'marked' as OC territory. :rotflmao:

IrREVerent, thanks for the additional perspective.

As we said so many times on this trip, as stunning as the photos are, they do not do justice to the real thing. Oh well, we'll just have to go back :right_on::right_on::right_on:

Thanks for the pictures of Perce's Rock. 2 trips to Gaspe and still never seen it....

From Murdochville, did you take the orange trail west over to 595 and head north back to 5? I know this is the shorter route. Just curious how it was.

Now that you've been and experienced it, it really is something else isn't it? I mean last week, Monday & Tuesday were crazy windy with 12+" of snow, (more in the interior), Wednesday more snow, and finally Thursday the trails were more groomed but again windy and about -20. (along the south shore and north towards Amqui anyway) and then Friday it was getting a bit milder. We were trucking by the time the snow came on your final ride days.

I'll post some pictures from our ride (not to duplicate any though) once I refresh my memory on posting pictures.

Hey, 14...nice to cross paths with you guys at the relais in the Chic Chocs.

Yes, we did cross the orange mountain trail running west from Murdochville to 595, then north to Relais Le Cache for lunch, then continued north up to TQ 5, and from there to Matane...it was our longest day, at almost 300 kms. As my pics show, we were socked in with heavy snow for much of that mountain crossing to 595, so we had no opportunity for vistas, but could only imagine how stunning those views must be on a good day because that trail climbs so high.

I'll look forward to seeing your pics, since you covered areas we didn't see.

Great post SJ. Looks like you had a sweet week. PS, did you venture out to the hole at low tide? We walked through it when we were there :)

No, we didn't. I understood that some years there is an ice bridge to the rock but it didn't appear too solid this year.

In 23 years of saddlebagging, our 4 guy troop has been fortunate enough to do Gaspe 5 times. It is by far the most scenic place we have travelled. The trails over the mountains on the North Shore provide awesome scenery for sure. The Orange mountain trail west from Murdochville on a sunny morning is absolutely beautiful. I would urge anyone going to try to include it on their itinerary. As mentioned, the food at the little Hotel in Grand Vallee is awesome. The hotel in Trois Pistoles has very comparable food quality.

Thanks for including all the pictures, they bring back alot of great memories.

Prince William is in quite a dilemma...

If he does have a bachelor’s party, it’s got to be a really weird feeling stuffing money into a stripper’s g-string, when there's a picture of your grandmother on every bill!

someone will send him a mitt full of US money,,,, :icon_idea1:
